  1. thats the thing. the later one (as i read) does not suffer needle bounce due to being able to handle a full 12v and running off the negative pickup. Thus by definition (all else equal) should keep things a bit more accurate. Mine occasionally bounces as is, and it annoys me. not often.
  2. Over in Aust our 260z has carbies - and points ignition so has the same tacho "setup" as 240z. So a 280z tacho install changes things to a negative (trigger) pickup.(also running the zx electronic dizzy) The look of 280z tacho is the same as is the RPM range (260z same as 280z in stroke). I am thinking that this trigger pickup actually means that the tacho is technically 'electronic' and is as good as any electronic tach (within reason obviously). Basically more accurate than the old + pickup current 240z tacho, and is stable under full voltage, and depicts accurate rpm. thats what i am hoping at least, but dont actually know. i am doing some head work and the car is going to be revving harder now so when its up in the happy zone i know accurately what the motor is revving at.
  3. Hi, i was hoping for an answer on nissan tachos. i know people speak of the 280z tacho as an upgrade over 240z. That is written quite a bit. But if a 240z tacho is functioning perfectly is a 280z one still better? with the different pickup - does this mean more accurate RPM and less rpm needle lag? most people change if their 240z tach is stuffed but i was looking for a opinion on if it truly is an upgrade on a good 240z one. i.e. does it track rpm faster (eg when flick throttle or accelerate); i am guessing an aftermarket electonic tach is still far better? i have a zx dizzy. cheers, Peter
  4. Finally did this. Runs perfect. no dramas whatsoever.
  5. ok, I am hoping someone here can provide some insight on this matter. I have a N36 which is bored out to 50mm running a pair of 2" British SU's. My quesiton is - i want to go back to the hitachi's. Now is the manifold useless being bored out larger now? Or can i still use it. Will there be performance issues with a 1 3/4" carby feeding into a 2" intake? Any help appreciated on this one - i would rather not have to source another N36 manifold as i have done quite a bit of work to mine, thanks, Peter.
  6. ok. I appreciate all the responses. What i have concluded is that this sounds a bit tricky to achieve an NA motor with injection, the more i think about it it seems better to go turbo; consideration: leave my L26 block with dished pistons and L28E dizzy installed; intstall P79 head; drops compression to 7.4; L28E injection manifold, wiring loom; L28ET injectors; L28ET turbo exhaust manifold with T3/T4 or T28 or something similar; j-pipe; Aftermarket management OR z31 ECU with a nistune? I guess the aim is about 220-230hp at the wheels boost kept to around 10psi; 2.5" exhaust to be left on car; So a few questions; cam? the cam in the p79 will do? or turbo grind needed? L28E dizzy ok to run with this? bigger injectors req'd? management; i am all ears; microtek Lt-8? L26 bottom end is freshly rebuild, will it handle this setup and power level? intercooler? required? thanks, Pete.
  7. how do you tune a afm? with the afm tune will will the motor run smoothly? has anyone run a l26 with injection using a L28 ECU?
  8. I was wondering if a L26 can be fuel injected [using either L28e or L28et intake] using the factory 280zx/280zxt ECU? [assuming i have a head which can handle injection eg p79]. Or does it need a custom ECU? i am currently running L28E electronic dizzy. Reason i ask is that i have a carby L26 with a fresh bottom end with matching numbers so was hoping to utilise it. plan was to maybe go ET down the track. I like the idea of having a L26ET for a 260z [and not having to take the engine out] thanks, Peter AU 260z coupe 1975
  9. I would like to take it with the antenna if they are the same length.. PM me with details,
  10. Yes to s30 elec antenna, but no (so far) to antenna cable for s30 coupe.
  11. Hi, i am chasing: - a working electric antenna for my 260z coupe. It needs to plug in as per factory and work with the factory up/down switch [hence going up and down]. - The antenna cable [the black cable that runs from the antenna in the back of the car to the radio in the front].Preferably for coupe not 2+2 [ i figured that their length would be different and the longer cable on the 2+2 would be a nuisance. - need to be willing to ship to australia [it appears s30 parts are far more plentiful in usa], i have bought from this forum before no probs, using paypal; Thanks, Peter
  12. thanks guys,, will look into it more,
  13. thanks NZ, i thought they were the same.. I wonder if the injectors are the same.. At this stage i only have the 280zx NA AFM... Does anyone know if this will be ok with the setup? thanks Peter
  14. hi, I have a 260Z and am looking to turbo charge a L28 to put in it. A mate of mine has a complete setup off an L20turbo motor,, i mean intake manifold, T3 turbo , turbo manifold, down pipe, injectors, AFM all L20 turbo fitted up to a loom and computer from a 280ZX NA. He has never run it but i think it will all work. I want to turbo a l28 motor - is this setup from the L20 turbo exactly the same as that of the L28 turbo? because it definately looks it, - or are injectors and AFM and intake manifold size (internally) smaller? I know it will bolt up easily enough but i do want about 160 -170 rear wheel kws without changing turbo size, and maybe without intercooling - at this stage. Does anyone know anything about the L20 turbo bits any help on this appreciated, Thanks, Peter
