  1. Double check the oil in your carbs. Make sure the float bowls are filling to the proper level. Follow the FSM for setting the SU carbs. Im not discounting your Z Fanatic friend, but some people treat the carbs like there is some black magic involved. The FSM or even the Haynes manual will properly set up the carbs and get you going. Then you can use your black magic to tune them for peak performance. If youre not getting enough fuel, perhaps the carbs pistons are not coming up. Take your air cleaner off and rev the motor to see if the pistons rise when you rev the motor. If they dont come up, clean everything again and make sure the piston slides smoothly up and down.
  2. Hey all, Ive been doing some searching and I cant find a part number or even a number to cross reference so that I can order a set of HP Plus for my car. its a 240z with 4x4 non vented brake upgrade. Anyone know where I can get Hawk HP+ for this? It is a daily driver/autx/occaisional track day car. Thanks Doug
  3. Shaggy240sx is my friend I was talking about, looks like he signed himself up on our hybridZ. Just wanted to say thanks for your help, and keep the ideas coming. The sooner he gets his car back on the street, the sooner he might wreck it and then I can have the motor !
  4. Hey all, A friend of mine with a 240sx and red top SR20 needs a hand. Ive done all the trouble shooting I can, so any questions comments help would be appreciated. My recommendation to him is to sell the car and give me the motor for my '71Z. But thats not working out so far. Below is a copy of a post he made and a link to it on zilvia.net. Let me know what you think. I think the free beer would apply to you all too, if youre in the Parker CO area. http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=109081 SR20 Won't Start I haven't posted on here in a long time because I thought all my quirk were finally worked out, but apparently not. So last summer/fall my 240sx with a redtop SR20 was running fine. Never ridden in another SR powered car so I am not sure it was running smoothly, but it felt and sounded plenty strong. I went to start it this weekend (after it had been sitting for 5+ months in my garage) and nothing. It doesnt even try to turn over. The starter sounds like it is doing its thing, but it never even tries to turn over. From what I can tell it has all the necessary components to run, but it doesnt. -Air - Not sure how to test this...but I disconnected the pipe to the throttle body at one point (for testing), and it still didnt start, so if it is an air problem, it is not in the Intake or IC piping. -Fuel - Confirmed fuel is making it to the fuel rail (disconnected the fuel line at the rail and put it in a bucket as I turned it over). Also confirmed that the injectors are atleast clicking, which leads me to believe they are spraying. -Spark - Hooked plug wires up to a spare plug I had and they were able to arch onto the valvue cover. Spark seemed a little less then normal, but I tested with a spare/old plug. I am by no means a mechanic so I really don't know what else to test at this point. Like I said, it worked fine 5 or so months ago when I parked it, but now it doesn't. Any ideas? BTW...if anyone in the Parker, CO area wants to stop by and take a look...I will supply the beers.
  5. Try MAC Autosport in Parker. They do a lot of Nissan stuff. Mostly SR20s into 240sx's though. When I brough my Z by they all but jumped at the chance to put an SR20 in it (havent done it yet). But a few friends have taken their cars there (no Z's among them). They do good work. Try not to talk to Bill (hes the dad, and runs the business side of things). Try to get a hold of Skippy (one of his sons) MAC Autosport www.macautosport.com 303-841-1176 6288 East Pine Lane Parker CO 80138 Other than that, im not sure of anything.
  6. Thanks guys! Im still hoping its all cosmetic, but we shall see.
  7. Thanks Shire. I actually took printouts of these drawings and my '71 FSM to the frame and alignment shops. Based on these they said my car was as square as it could be. They said it was probably suspension. I guess Im wondering if its a problem with the metal or the stampings, or ifits really any problem at all, other than cosmetic. I am getting ready to build this into an autoX/track day fun car which is why im surfing this forum.
  8. John, You posted this in another thread regarding 1 fast Z's alignment. How or why do the wheel wells vary by as much as an inch? Could this be why my front right looks like it sits higher then the left? I have had a frame shop and an alignment shop look at my car and they say everything is square. But the whole car looks lower on the left than the right, or the right is jacked up more than the left. I was thinking maybe a sagging spring. I am still on the stock (and possibly the original factory) suspension in my '71 240z. Am I reading too much into this and/or is there something I can do about it? Thanks all Doug
  9. A buddy of mine is looking for a working stock SR20 red top ecu #62. Anyone know any good dealers, or maybe knows of some for sale anywhere.
