  1. If you're worried about them breaking, get them from a Q45 which came stock with a V8 and weighed a ton, or from a Z32 turbo. Both made V8 power and weighed more than a 240z. I wouldn't use any 240sx parts in that conversion as the 240sx didn't even come with an LSD.
  2. My only question is why not the 2.3 ecoboost in the Mustang? It's already RWD so your transmission problem is already solved. Also, because it came in a Mustang it's just a matter of waiting a few days until someone crashes one. I've seen a video of a guy swapping an ecoboost into his 86 Fox Box, so if the engine that was originally in that fits in a Z car, it would be reasonable to say that the ecoboost would too.
  3. Many BMW's use 930 joints in their CV axles. I picked up a set of E23 axles from a pick and pull which has two bolt on 930 CV joints for dirt cheap. Almost all dune buggies use 930 joints as well, so getting custom axles is actually as easy as it can get. Loving the design of the bracket! Sandwiching it between the diff cover and the housing would require two gaskets, but you could run any cover you like...I'm a fan.
  4. Good, getting away from Z31 parts is what we need to do. Every year there's less and less of them, so moving onto something else is a great idea. 930 CV's are insanely plentiful and can be found used on all sorts of vehicles. You wouldn't happen to have a picture of your design would you?

Engine -> Transmission -> Driveshaft -> Diff -> output shaft -> CVjoint or U-joint -> Axle -> CV joint or U-joint -> companion flange -> Stub Axle -> Wheel That's where the power starts and ends. If you're getting CV joint shafts, you'll have to get new companion flanges for sure. As you are making a good amount of torque, you're probably asking for new stub axles.

  11. No offense at all taken on being brand specific when it comes to these cars. Lots of people are. I for one am not. By the time I've finished my car I believe I'll have 10 or more different cars parts in it, almost all the main ones being BMW.
  12. Even if there was a Camry with a manual, it would be a FWD transmission. V6's are inherently unbalanced, and the sound is usually something that isn't as nice to listen to as a V8 or Inline 6. The sound part is an opinion, but it's a commonly held opinion.
  13. If you're using the stock seat belts, would an autopower style hoop work for you?
  14. 1) It's not Nissan. 2) Most people are going to swap in another straight-6, V8, or turbo-4. V6 is the redheaded step child of the performance world. 3) The VQ engine is also readily available, and is way easier to find a manual transmission. Unless there's some other non-stock transmission that bolts up to it, I don't believe there is a manual transmission for those engines (I could be mistaken) 4) The MR2 community uses them because it's a transverse engine. The 240z requires a longitudinal engine. Not sure how much work would be required to make it so. 5) (And ultimately the biggest and only real reason) Because there are easier options out there that will achieve the same goal. The only reason I could see for ever doing that swap would be because you got one of the engines on the extreme cheap (free) and you wanted to just be different for the sake of being different. That all being said, if you got one, go for it! I'd love to read about it.

  16. How are you attaching the Ford 8.8 to the frame? Also, what axles are you going to use to go from the diff to the Z32 hub?
  17. If you're going to school at OSU, don't you have access to the shop under Rodgers hall? They have every single tool there is pretty much. Can you borrow a micrometer?
  18. Ok, so a 280zx booster will fit a 280z, but not a 240z. And a 280z booster will indeed fit a 240z. Good to know.

  23. The original coil binds from being fully compressed. Think of a slinky that's sitting on a table vs extended. Fully compressed it might as well be a steel tube instead of a spring. How much were those Moog springs/where did you get them?
