  1. I used the HOK kd red primer as a sealer for the base. I used that instead of their silver sealer tinted. I painted the jambs first and separate from the rest of the car. They are a slightly different shade of red. I think it had to do with the humidity when I sprayed the body. It was extremely humid and the car was taking much longer to flash between coats. I found that I used way more base than anticipated for coverage so make sure that you have extra from the same lot number in case you run into the same coverage issue. The HOK stuff is very nice quality and this is my 1st base/clear job. I started to get tiger striping on the hood and had to spray at 90 degrees from prior passes in order to eliminate it. Overall, a very in depth expensive learning process.
  2. Just following up on this. I used fabric wheel covers when spraying. Nothing really on the wheels but the tires did get some overspray. The stuff on the wheels just wipes off with a wet rag. The tires are old anyways so it really doesn't matter in my case. I am still reassembling everything but the project has been on hold for months due to cold weather. I have another car in the garage with it and there is no room to work on anything with both cars in the garage. I also started putting on a Holley Sniper fuel injection system and the fuel line routing to my fuel cell is proving to be a challenge.
  3. 1st thing I am looking for is quantity 1 window track rubber and phillips head screw assembly pic attached. 2nd....interior windshield pillar plastic trim both sides 3rd passenger side door lock arm. This is the little arm that attaches to the door lock cylinder to actuate the lock assembly when you use the key. 4th. Passenger side turn signal and finisher 5th clean pair of front side markers with the correct plugs. Shipping to 06235 Thanks.
  4. Be careful using any acid product under certain epoxy primers. Many epoxy primers are not compatible with acid rust convertors or etch primers. In the House of Kolor tech manual, it states over and over not to use any acid product under their epoxy primers including etch primers. Check the tech data sheets on the paint system you plan on using to make sure you dont end up causing more headaches down the road.
  5. It was alot of work and alot of $$$$. It all depends on how nice you want it.
  6. Would they cause a fuss with no cat convertors?
  7. It looks like it is a Canadian car. I just did quick research on what it would take to import into the USA and it looks like a pain in the a$$. I am sure that there is a market for your car here in the US if it could be imported but I am not familiar at all with Canadian prices. https://www.cbp.gov/trade/basic-import-export/importing-car
  8. Hi guys. I finally finished up the body work and sprayed my Z. It has been a long long process. The color is House of Kolor KBC11 candy red. It came out good. There is soo much reassembly to do after I finish color sanding and buffing. Here is a few pics.
  9. That looks like a nice car. You built some crazy headers for it lol. Auto or stick?
  10. I have a clean set of black seats out of my car. They are from a 1978 280z.
  11. Lt1s take a specific lt1 clutch. The slave cylinder etc operates differently. It is a pull style clutch vs a push style clutch. Google lt1 pull clutch. It's been a year and a half since I did the clutch on my 93 Callaway lt1. Standard clutch stuff doesnt work with an lt1 setup.
  12. That's why I put this in the misc. tech section. Comp doesn't say this is max lift with a certain engine. They won't for fear of a mistake. However, I thought maybe someone here had a prior experience with this engine where I could get an answer. It's a bbc which people do have in their Datsun and it's a general engine question si it's relevant. No different than saying how much cam lift can a stock 5.0 engine out of a mustang handle?
  13. If emissions aren't an issue for you, go conventional SBC hei or MSD ignition with a carb. Quicker, easier and generally cheaper to setup with decent driveability. The money you would spend on a coil pack conversion for a LT1 (LTCC, coils, wires, brackets, etc) could be better spent elsewhere. Changing the plugs, wires and distributor on my LT1 Camaro with full length headers and optispark distributor (which is located on the front of the engine under the waterpump if you didn't know) was a horrible job to do. I have permanent scars from that job. It's a job that is better to pay someone to do. The exact opposite of my Datsun with MSD ignition and carb'd sbc. Even with headers, it's very easy to get at everything on the Datsun. LT1 pic below
  14. Hi guys. I just picked up a rebuilt 1997 mark vi vortec 454 .030. The engine was done to stock specs. The guy I got it from started a project and abandoned it so I got the complete long block for a great price. Everything was rebuilt/replaced on the engine. These run about 9:1 stock compression and I'm assuming that it's going to be right around there give or take .3. I have a question. I'm going to be upgrading the cam before I get further into the project. What is the largest cam that the vortec heads can handle without machining the valve guides for seal to retainer clearance? I don't feel like taking the heads off and totally disassembling them. I need a quick cam change. I will upgrade the valve springs if necessary. I'd also prefer to stay with the nonadjustable valvetrain vs. spending more money. It's already going to cost an additional $1200 or so in parts for me to get this to work. Engine will be a carb engine with an edelbrock performer RPM intake. Hei distributor. Vehicle it's going in is my truck. 1992 Chevy k3500 mason dump 4x4, nv4500 5 speed with 4.56's front and rear. Truck is heavy but I need this engine to have some power. I don't tow, but do get loads stone (6000lbs on average) and the 350 that was in it required downshifts on hills even unloaded. I'd like this to pull above 5k and not die out like the TBI 350 did at 3800. Truck weighs 7540 with me in it. Any advice? Thanks.
  15. The T5 is rated for low HP. It's very easy to break one. I have a T5 in my Z behind a 327 and it now shifts "differently" after a few spirited shifts racing a M3 beamer. They are delicate unless you upgrade them with aftermarket parts.
  16. LT1 has the dreaded optispark distributor and overall weak ignition system I have an LT1 in my Camaro and upgraded to everything MSD and stuff still happens. Its the weak link with the car
  17. Did you figure this out? I have a Callaway Camaro with a LT1 and the ignition is the weak link on these engines. I had an ignition module go bad and I replaced it with a new one and still had a no start condition. After going through everything and wasting countless hours and hundreds of dollars on parts, it turned out that the replacement module I had put in was bad too. Brand new out of the box.
  18. If that deal doesnt happen I have a new never installed set of S&S headers that are ceramic coated that I will sell. I test fit them and had to clearance one tube a little for the steering shaft. Then I sent them out to be coated. Here are some pics so you can see how they are shaped.
  19. Thanks guys. Doors are completely stripped sprayed in ppg wash primer hanging on the car by the front hinges. The local z club is based out of New Hampshire and 2-3 hours away. Most people are from that area in the club. I was a member but nearly all the events were too far away to make it worthwhile attending. At this point, I am having a hard time locating the parts. My last move came down to the wire and friends were just putting everything in the garage in totes, so its not organized at all. I've got a starting point now for the doors and that's what I needed. Once I'm into it, it should move along. I'm leaving all the interior and exterior trim and panels off until the paint is further along. I've been thinking of sanding off the wash primer because in areas surface rust has popped up. I'd like to go with HOK epoxy primer but it can't be sprayed over etch primer. I'm a little worried about adhesion issues if I'm unable to get every little bit of the wash primer off.
  20. Just put in this pro billet this weekend. It's an older model msd
