  2. The only other option I thought about using was to run a trigger wheel on the crank and a vr/hall sensor. Is that what you meant? id love to go distributorless someday but this seems easier for now.

  4. What would the encoder look like? Is it like a computer board underneath the optical disk? And so if it has a disk with 360 slits in it then it is a 82 or 83 correct? well 82 since it has a p90 head....
  5. Long story short I picked up a l28et about a year ago, I could of sworn the guy I got the motor from said it was a 81, but heres the thing... It has NO CAS on the front pulley. When I went to pick the motor up the guy just got done taking it out of his car an hour or so before. The head says p90 and the distributor has a disk with 360 slits but the distributor itself is empty. If I remember correctly the 82 and up have optical triggers for a cas inthe distributor, but 81s didnt have this option. Ive done alot of searching on here and cant figure it out. I want to run MS2 and from what Ive read I need to have a 82 dizzy up setup with the proper oil shaft and pump. The other option would be to run a trigger off the crank. If someone can tell me what dizzy I may have Id be in your debt. Im just trying to identify which motor I have. Also if anyone can provide pictures of the distributor internals of the 82 vs. 81 that be great.

  8. My names Tommy and Im currently in the process of research for my l28et swap. I have a 73 240z. Currently the l24 in it is getting new gaskets and a head check and cleaning job. I plan on having it together and driving withn a couple weeks.. I recently got myself a 81 l28et and 99 percent of all the engine parts is there. Came with a auto tranny as well. I plan getting a t5 borg warner or a 280zx non turbo tranny to use. I have all the electrical parts needed, 82 ecu, 82 distrubitor, coil/ignitor , engine harness etc. Parts needed: 5 spd driveshaft, shortened Custom exhaust rebuild parts(if needed) I am just currently in the process of research and gathering parts, the engine will be getting checked for rebuild here in a couple months, so any help will be appreciated. I will be posting pics and gathering the information needed, mainly electrical questions. Here is my car below and the stage that it is in.

    Looking for a 81 83 l28et engine. Would also like the T5 tranny and all the parts on the motor and wiring harness. if you missing some parts still offer and Ill see if Ill take it or not.   16. I plan on running some mikunis triple carb. And Ive done a lil research on the subject, im just havn a hard time finding a plenum lol I know hks had a intake plenum as well as a twin turbo kit for the l series engine. Found one on ebaymotors, guy collected it for years and decided to sell for $3,000.
  17. I was wondering if anyone knew where to find an intake plenum for a l28? I plan on buying a l28et soon and was jw if anyone knew who makes them? This would be for a planned blow through carb turbo (I like carbs better, u cant replace them). But I have considered just going efi. I know alot of people would say for power/gas mileage stick with efi and save you headaches. But Ive always wanted to try it out. carb turbos can def make the power. I know it just wont be gas efficient(also why I have a beater to drive as well) Much appreciated, Tommy

  19. That was what I was planning on doing. If I buy it it wont be for restoration. I think it be a fine car for college and a starter Z. A Z to get use too and learn from it while driving. Im debating on it or just saving up for a 300zx twin turbo but I bet it would be killer on insurance. Im a 19 year old with a perfect driving record. State Farm wanted 150 for my lumina and a 1989 Nissan 240sx. Does anyone know what it might be for this Z? And thanks for the input.
  20. Ya I know what ya mean. ive been doing some reading on here and rust is def one of those things. I do want to buy one. If anything I could buy this one and then try and find a clean shell and swap the motor in etc. I wish i could find a good 240z. I found some on ebay for 6000 to 8000 to even 23,000(something like that). Pretty crazy but some of them are rediculously restored and moddified. And Vq huh? thats gonna be pretty bad ass. Vh45de wouldnt be bad either, I mean if you dont mind going V8. But the Vq is sure sexy
  21. This is exactly what I was worried about. And thank you guys for the input. The car actually runs really well and has suprisingly lower mileage. And the options were to get a clean shell (if lucky) or save up for one in great shape. I understand what you guys say and I completly agree. I know Im young and impatient lol But I did plan on putn alot of time into it when I did have the time with my dad to try and restore it after school. My father has alot of fabrication skills and his gf's dad has his own paint equipment and garage setup for it. So thats why i was considering it. Im in a family with experience and my dad is well off. But my parents are divorced and I actually will be getn grants for school. The money part was because I may be moving out and in with a roomate by the end of summer. But its something I wanted to drive till it got into restoration stages. By no means am I looking to make it nice anytime soon. But I have also thought about just saving up for a nice 240z instead. So maybe Ill just have to be patient.
  22. Hey guys Im new to the forums, my name is Tommy and Im 19. Im about to get into College and its time for me to buy another car. I drove a chevy Lumina for 4 years and now I use it mainly for work (I pizza deliver). Ive always loved Nissan cars and even purchased a 240sx shell and motor to get into the "drift" craze but ended up ditchen that because I didnt feel like spending a whole lot of money on it and find myself in a pit financially. tires, gas more tires engine mods suspension etc. Im getn into college and shouldnt be worring bout that right now. I got out of drifting and now looking for another car, I was thinkn bout savn up for a 300zx but I also thought bout getn lucky and trieing to find a first generation Z model. I absolutly love s30s more than in other car next to the skyline. I grew up watchn initial d then eventually wangan midnight as well. Kinda where the Z love started. I do plan on restoring it with my dad to maybe a 240z. It be hard since the rear end mountings are different but heard it can be done. But all im really asking is if the Z gurus can give me suggestions and some input bout the car I may buy. It be very appreciative! Sorry for the long intro. Here we go: Its a 1976 Datsun 280z. he wants $1,800 for it, lil rust but not bad, Im jus concerned bout the floor pans.
