  1. I've got similar plans to try and fire up an L28ET i've been considering buying. Its only been sitting about 4 years (or so I'm told) so not quite as long as yours. I made a list of things to take with me to the salvage yard to try and get it going. 1. 2 gallons of gasoline 2. 6 quarts of cheap oil 3. Car Battery 4. Sea Foam 5. Set of sparkplugs 6. Carburetor Cleaner 7. Work rags 8. Water for the radiator 9. Gloves 10. Tool box (screwdrivers, sockets, etc.) Since I've never actually done this, I am sure there is plenty more that can be/should be taken along. Just thought I'd share my ideas.
  2. So you don't have to take apart the dash to do this?
  3. So is there much interior rewiring that is required to get things like the speedo, tach, oil, temp, and fuel guages working?
  4. The body actually looks pretty dent free. Not too much either from what I can tell. Looks like a good car.
  5. Hello again everyone. Over the last few months I've been doing my share of reading on turbo swaps into the S30 and I think its something I want to do. I've been reading through tons of threads here and other places online and just about all my technical questions have been answered I think. I just really need to know how difficult doing this motor swap is going to be. My mechanical knowlege under the hood isn't very extensive. I have replaced the headgasket and timing chain on my 77 280 and done other little things, but never have I taken on something as huge as a motor swap. What I am most scared of is electrical. Is there a lot of rewiring that needs to take place behind the dash for the guages and whathot? I just don't want to find myself in over my head here. The guys at classiczcars.com helped me a lot through my headgasket change, so online help works for me. When all is said and done, I would like to have my car running 225-250hp with maybe a little room to grow in the future. My budget is EXTREMEMLY tight, so I'd be using as much from the donor car as possible. The donor car is an 82 280ZXT that was parked in running condition a few years ago and is still complete. I believe I can get everything I need for around $250-$300. My questions in a nutshell are: With my past knowlege, is this engine swap going to be extrememly harder than a head gasket change? How much of the interior is going to need rewired, and about how much is a ballpark cost for swapping a stock 280ZXT motor into a 77 280Z.
  6. Holy crap dude! It sounds like a jet taking off haha! Simply awesome.
  7. Well luckily i still have my 87 Buick, but it has it's own list of issues that don't make it the most reliable. The biggest issue for me is the fact that I don't have the money or resources to do any major work right now. Since I live on campus working on a car here is next to impossible and its not all that easy to just work on weekends at home. Any job that would normally take a few days will be extended to weeks or months simply cuz i would have to take a lot of time away from the project. I also lack the knowledge and tools to do anything major. The most i've done under the hood is change a headgasket and set the timing chain. A total engine swap just seems extremely overwhelming.
  8. Hmm, that sounds like an idea. About how much will one run me?
  9. Wait, are you saying you can't rev your car past 4k rpm?? I can go well past that in mine. Maybe im not thinkin of the same thing you are talking about.
  10. Yah yah! Thats just what im wondering. If it is possible to just swap over those things and keep the rest of the wiring and stuff as is now. Im not looking to run anymore than the stock psi from the little T3 that is already on the car. To do that, would I need anything that isn't already on the turbo motor?
  11. Well, my plan was to pull the motor at the yard, take it home and put it on a stand while i open it up and replace gaskets etc. I use this car as my daily driver and im a college kid, so having it out of comission for a long time really isn't much of an option right now since I don't even live at home to work on it. I just saw the car sitting there and figured if I could get some cheap power out of it, i'd go for it. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to get that power. Be it turbo or NA build up. I figured if it would be cheaper just to pull the parts off this motor and put em on mine i'd just go for it.
  12. Hi everyone. I did some searching here already, but with so much info its hard to find the answer im looking for. I have a 77 280 that has an N47 head on it and i can't remeber the block at the moment. I would like to turbocharge this car without having to do and entire engine swap. About all I would really feel comfortable swapping is the head, but I just don't have the time, tools, or experience to pull the whole engine. I found a good looking 280ZXT in a junkyard here that has a complete motor with the intake and exhaust manifolds etc. If I were to buy this engine, would it be possible to swap out the turbo parts onto my stock engine? I'm not looking for anything crazy as far as power goes. I'd be fine with running at the stock 6psi or whatever, so long as i wouldn't have to switch out blocks. If i can do this without having to do any major electrical work, that would also be awesome. Sorry if this has already been covered a million times, i promise i did try and search. Thanks for you input.
  13. Yup, its theirs. I've talked with them about it before. I have some pics and movies i got off their site before it went down. Is there a way i can post them?
  14. A guy who lives near me has a 502 powered 73 240Z that runs low 9's. I think he ran a 9.26 last time up at the strip.
