  1. Well I know the wastegate seem to work pretty well on the ones that are installed on Dodge Trucks. As most of them are run hard, run at semi high RPM's while towing and they never seem to leak on those vehicles, I mean a lot of the guys that do the tractor pulls with their trucks are running pretty much stock turbos and wastegates when they first get started before they start upgrading!!
  2. That seems like a pretty good deal to me, considering you can pretty much yank just about anything you need or want to go with the setup!! The only thing I would think you might want to look into changing prior to installing it into your ride is that stupid optispark!! But that is just me... I mean yeah if you can get the price even lower that is always a plus... but I would say it seems like a pretty good deal!!
  3. Glad to hear that your first run went well. I can't view the video here at work, so I am goign to have to check it out when I get home. Congrats on a good job, enjoy the new ride.
  4. Hey congrats Mike.... the first drives are always the best... you will run into all kinds of neat problems, some that others have seen and can help u fix, others that no one has ever seen, at least you only had a couple small hick-ups... I hope my LS1 swap will go that smoothly...
  5. PC and Mac....um no they don't have the same HD's, well it depends on if you go off of older Mac or newer MacBooks.... Cause the MacBooks have a newer Serial ATA setup which PC laptops do not have.... Other than that they do crash at about the same times... but the newer laptops no matter if it is PC or Mac don't last for s*&t as a tuning laptop.... trust me i know.... Now what you should do is go online (ebay) and look for an oldschool laptop... I ran a Dell 600M in my Honda and in a friends LS1 powered Formula, and it is still running.... Now as far as LT1edit and using any other program... that is all up to preference... I have been using LS1edit as well as LT1 edit for about five years, and have never had a problem using either nor have I had a problem running out of tuning options using them... it is just a personal preferance as to which you want to run...
  6. In all truthfulness... I had a similar problem with a 383 that I built for a friend of mine with a pinhole...although we had two small one in the oil pan, and he asked me if he should start it or replace the pan first and I told him to replace the pan...well turns out after waiting three months for me to finish the engine build for him he got itchy and started it up, well before he could do anything or even enjoy the new engine, I am now having to pull it back apart cause he temp repaired it and with the flow of the high flow oil pump it moved the patch...and friend the engine.... So I would say wait the extra day or so and replace that sucker with a new pan and gasket...hopefully this time with one that doens't have any pinholes.... good luck on the startup.....
  7. I know that I have built and tuned plenty of older Chevy Camaros and such, and they ran ok without exhaust to get the down to the exhaust shop, just don't get on it until you get the exhaust.... Now one other thing, is possibly be prepaired to retune some after having the exhaust installed, as it will change your back preasure and can also cause some issues that way, but other than that you should be ok to run it up with no exhaust for a short bit...
  8. SBC's are great....and I love the old school Carb setup.... but to tell you the truth probably your best bet would be to go with what 240zV8 said, and get rid of yoru current setup and purchase yourself an LS1 setup to run... This is the setup that I plan to run, but only cause of just a little tuning out of the stock motor and you can get a decent bit more HP then it is already rated at... But that is just what I would do...
  9. I went and talked to my insurance company about it the other day, I told them that I was going to be running a 1978 280Z with an LS1 w/6spd. and was wondering what the difference would be in price between my current L28 and the LS, and they said that it wouldn't change as they would be going off of what the VIN shows being installed into the car.... But they said that I could add more coverage that way if I got into an accident it would cover my engine and that wasn't but a couple bucks more a month... but that is just what my company told me...
  10. It is the modern version of the SBC, and like I said there are parts like dime a dozen and can be found anywhere for the LSx... Now granted the RB is a higher revving engine, but I would still much rather run the LSx in the long run...
  11. I have been running this same argument trying to figure out what avenue I want to go with my Z. I am actually thinking the LSx swap would be cheaer in the long run, as it starts off with about 300+hp out of the box. Now one other thing that I have been running in my head that makes the LSx swap a better option is that parts as well as upgrades are available everywhere you go, now the RB parts are only going to be available online and from overseas....you can't just go down to your local Nissan dealer and order many parts for your RB engine.... but that is just my opinion...
