  1. Was wondering if you found out the problem because I have the same problem on a sr20det in a 78 280z. It idles fine but when I give throttle it dies and not sure what it could be.
  2. So I'm almost done with the swap and just wanted to post my progress and some questions that I have. I just graduated high school and my brother got me to think he was getting my a 5 speed transmission to swap out the 4 speed for the L28 in the 280z. UPS stops right in front of the house on June 10 of this year and brings in a s13 sr20det blacktop with transmission, ecu and harness and I'm not sure what to do with it. I was 17 with no money, job, or much experience working with cars. But I end up just tearing out the old engine and decided to work on the dash so i tear that out as well. I end up buying the engine cradle from Vildini Motorsport and they have it made and shipped at my door in two days. Test fit everything and mounted it. Next I had the driveshaft cut to spec from South Bay Driveline. I get that bolted up and start working on electrical. I found a diagram for the s13 sr20det harness and get all the wiring hooked up once i got a Walbro 255LPH inline fuel pump, the 300zx maf sensor, free sunpro tach from my cousin ( http://forum.ratsun.net/showthread.php?t=549). I get all the gas lines hooked up. Used the stock radiator for now, and get the intercooler mounted with piping and wire the HKS SSQV blow off valve into the vacuum. Everything is pretty much in just needed fluids and when I filled the coolant up a couple of days ago, it comes pouring out of the back of the engine where I couldn't reach. So I had to take out everything and lift the engine to replace the hose. Hoping I can get everything done before I go to college because I doubt I will have any time to work on it. Here are some pictures of the swap. And just a question I had that I couldn't find in search. If I follow the diagram from the ratsun forum above, will I be able to turn the key and it start to crank? I tried to power the car but the key didn't do anything. The only thing I didn't wire was the fuse box. Do i need the fuse box to start the car or do I need to wire the tumbler to something?
  3. i just got it out by the vicegrips and chiseling the side of the nut to spin it off. thanks so much guys!
  4. hey yeah i tried something like that but when i was moving the wheel backwards the driveshaft doesnt spin. same with moving the wheel forward
  5. i used a spanner because the socket wrench wouldnt fit. ill try the vicegrips tomorrow but i dont know how ill be able to get them in there. should i try to remove the rear sway bar? also do i keep the car in gear and then move the vice grip or keep it in neutral and try to move the driveshaft? if this doesnt work ill prob end up trying to cut it
  6. hey guys. i'm in the process of taking out the l28 out of my 280z and swapping in a sr20. i was able to take out the 3 bolts on the driveshaft but the last nut is stripped and wont budge. any tips on how to take it out?
  7. its a stock l28. and when your stepping on the accelerator, you dont feel a response until a few seconds. and it starts to misfire. until you are at higher rpms than about 2-3k
  8. hey guys my 280z has a lack of power and makes a popping noise only on rpms lower than 2000. So far we've changed the spark plugs, plug wires and sanded the contacts inside the distrubtor because of corrosion. Also im not sure if this is a factor but we've put 87 octane and just switched back to 91 at 50%. Thanks in advance for your help guys.
  9. ok so i was driving my 78 280z today and my l28 engine seemed like a cylinder or so wasnt firing on first gear. it seemed fine durring 2nd 3rd n 4th. but whenever i gave it a lil gas on first, it lagged until a while then it started to accelerate. then when it was on 2nd+ gear it was accelerating well without lag. does anyone know what the problem could be?

  11. soo yesterday i was driving my 280z at night and suddenly the gauge lights all turned off n wondering if its a blown fuse or sumtin else. anyone know the problem?
  12. i just recently got a 78 280z from my uncle and i dont know much so i made an account for this site. well the car wasn't used for about 4 years but i got it to start but i step on the clutch and i cant shift it into gear when the car is on (but i can when it is off) and it feels like there is no clutch. i tried 2 add more clutch fluid because the level was really low. but it still had the same problem. i was wondering if anyone knew the problem and how to fix it. thanks
