  1. I have been looking at stroker kits, what is the difference between a 383 and a 389 stroker kit. summit offers both is it the rod length or what? how come I never hear of a 389 sbc? also does anybody have any comments about the lutini stroker kits, good or bad?
  2. I was trying to do some research on my zx, but I am stuck. my bin code is only 11 charcters long what gives? all the vin decoders ask for 17 characters.. how do I decode my vin?
  3. I dont know if the block has been decked, standard felpro gasket
  4. Ok here is my problem, about a month ago I purchased a 355 which was running, the guy I bought the engine from conned me. he said the engine was too much for his son- long story. anyways the engine was in thecar, and it sounded great. once I got the engine home and did a compression check, posted the #'s grumpy said it was in the 12-1 range. it had a set of 305 ho heads on it, shaved .040 head #416. further inspection of the block shows scoring of the # 4 cylinder wall. so now I need to rebuild. here is where I need help. I am planning on purchasing a set of summit .060 over -5cc flat top pistons. the cam I am planning on running is this cam:erson cam. E113421 Street and Strip. High-lift, dual pattern. Rough idle. Good mid and top-range horsepower. Needs 4-barrel intake, headers and lower gears. OK with automatic and 3,000 RPM stall speed torque converter. 9:1 compression or more.2,800- 296° IN 228° IN .472" IN 110° 4° .000" IN 6,200 TQ50H 306° EX 235° EX .472" EX .000" EX I returned the tri y I purchased from edl and purchased eld rpm air gap, I dont have the money for the heads I want, put a machine shop has another pair of 305 heads for 250, fresh valve job. if I put this engine together like this , with the crappy 305 heads will it run decent untill I can get the set of heads I want. this has turned into more of a headache then I planned. thanks for the help.
  5. on a 350 .060 over with -5cc flat top piston what would true compression be with a 58cc head. thanks jeremy
  6. what is the general concensous about the comp cams 4&7 firing order swap? is this a good design? has anybody ran one of these cams?
  7. the casting number on the heads I have are 14014416, the machine shop says they have been shaved 40 thousands. the valve on the intake side has been changed, to 194, stock 150 on the exhaust. so now what do I do? what heads should I get, I have approx 500 to spend on heads, once agian this is a 355. thanks Jeremy
  8. Ok to recap I have purchased a 355 with a supposed 9-1 comp. offy 360 manifold and schnieder stage 2 cam. I am buying the tri power manifold from edelrock, where would I get my rodchester carbs, and linkage. their is no information on where to obtain them from on the website. also, the previous owner said the comp was a 9-1 but when I did a comp check on it today, I pulled 232-234 out of it. also edelbrock only offers a torquer cam, and performer plus cam, what high performance cam would work well with this engine. I want it to sound lumpy, like a 3/4 race cam. kind of a upper rpm cam, but nothing that comes on above 2500. thanks for the help.
  9. that is the look I want, ok I am sold. after looking at the edelbrock page I am going to go with the tri power set up. now should I go with their cam options? any suggestions?
  10. Ok, what is the general opinion about dual carbs, like the edelbrock setup? or tri power? every engine I see is the same basicaly, edelbrock or holley intake with the the carb,. I want to do something different, not seen to often in a z. I have decided to keep my power range in the streetable area, while retaining drivablity. I am thinking of using the edelbrock rpm dual carb setup, or maybe a tri power setup. tuning the carbs is no prob for me. anyways what do you guys think. also I am thinking about changing cams, the engine is a 355, 9-1 comp with a schnieder stage 2 cam in it.. basicaly what I want is a lumpy idle, good power across the rpm range, and a different induction system then the norm. 315 hp and torque would suit me good. should move the z along just fine.. this z will never see a quarter mile track, just me, my daughter and wife.. maybe a car show when I am done..
  11. Ok, Im finaly ready to spend money after much reading and honesty with self. I have decided to go with the jtr kit. I am going to put a 350 in my 81 zx. here is the question, how will a 300 hp/300ft lb engine move my z. I have perchased a 355, with a shcnieder stage 2 cam, offenhouser 360 manifold and it comes with a 670 cfm holley street avenger carb. I paid 1200 for the engine. the owner said it has a 9-1 comp. after his son recked the 81 camaro it was in, he said he is putting him in a slower vehicle. the engine has 20k on it. I also want to retain drivability, say if I want to make the trip to vagas in it. thanks Jeremy
  12. Need some help with yr's I am going to the Junkyard next week to look for a set of heads, I dont know what years or make or model chevy vehicle I a can find a pair of big valve 350 heads on somthing like 2.02 1.60, also I am pulling the r&p cross member, pump hoses ect to convert my 81 over for the use of headers on my v8. thanks Jeremy.
  13. has anybody or does anybody have torsion bars connection their trans to the rear end? I am putting my car together on paper right now, and this is very important to me. thanks Jeremy 81 zx
  14. a friend of mine has a 350 standard bore with a set of 305 HO heads on it, the engine sounds goods, it has a performer plus cam. he said the heads have stock valves but has been Pocket Ported? he wants 800 for the engine.. is this a good deal? he also said the heads give him a 10:1 comp. dont know if that is true.. thanks for the info. jeremy
  15. what cr will a 58cc head create on a stock bore 350 eng? was wondering. thanks..
