  1. hello everyone, Well I'm getting my 240z project rolling along soon, I have decided to do the s13 rear suspension with r230, I know people say it's not a great improvement but I have to say it does seem much cheaper, I ended up getting a complete s13 rear end/suspension for $100.00, $300 for r230 and going to pick up the 300zxtt brakes with hubs, carrier, arms, and cv's for another $400. also want some nice brake setup up front and the Modern Motorsports cobra kit is the way I think I'm headed. My question is has anyone here used theri cobra offset hubs? and did you buy their rotors and calipers? I found so many cobra kits (13") online ranging from like 350 and up with oem cobra calipers. I would guess all I would need is to source a standard 13" cobra brake kit and it should work right?
  2. I was thinking that it would probably better to get the whole thing complete. I actually do have the intake, injectors, exhaust manifold and turbo, but I'm wondering if it would make sense buying a complete unit if most likely the turbo will need to be replaced with new one, the injectors upgraded, megasquirt was my thought too. I'ts going into a 240z without the smog stuff at least whatever bare minimum that is needed to make this streetable and reliable. maybe it's asking too much for 300+ hp daily driver l28et huh?
  3. hello everyone, I bought 72' 240z and the owner had planned a turbo swap but I guess he gave up, he gave me the engine in about 3 boxes, basicall completelly torn down, but he did throw in a set of rings and bearings, freeze plugs. I really want to acheive about 300 or so rwh and I know that is apparently possible but should I just try to get this motor together, since it's missing the harness, ecu and down pipe, or should I keep looking for another complete unit with tranny? what would you do? Thanks

  5. hello everyone, Well it's been a while but I just can't stay away from the forum, I still have my ole' z and still have the itch to make it just a little better...lol. Anyway, I just purchased the r230 lsd so I have to get hunting on the rest of the swap parts. I plan on getting the flange adapters from modern motorsports but the axles, 310.00 ouch! I believe someone said 100.00 for shortening a set but was wondering if anyone has a definite length measurment for this? and what have you done for end stops? thanks.
  6. Hey everyone, after contemplating an ls1 swap and budget diving, I'm now contemplating going with the l28et, I know it will probably end up costing close to 3k but I fugure I can do it in baby steps. I found an 83zx tubo engine but it's 5 hours away, the turbo apparently is crap and engine was checked for compression and only got 130, I was thinking the stock turbo would need to be upgraded anyway so I guess thats not a big deal, the exhaust , intake is in tact. He is asking 250.00 if I pick it up or 400 shipped, anybody think I should jump on it or would it be better to keep looking, it's hard to determine how good an engine you'll get no matter where I get it I guess. I wasn't going for a quick bolt in, probably going to take my time to do an overhaul before everything goes in. what do you think? thanks
  7. kidding, actually the car really does look better in the pic for some reason engine is running I would say perfect, has some minor body work thats needed, basically overall I'd say it's still a nice car, so if anyone is interested let me know, I'd like around $2k for it, it's in central california.
  8. hey everyone, I think I'm about to give up on my V8 z project, think I'm just going to have to put in the back burner for a few years. anyway, I 'm going to get rid of it and wanted to post a pic to see what you guys think it would be worth putting it out for, I was thinking ebay but I'd sure like to get some of my cash back. well I think this is a great car for anyone wanting to go v8, a little rust on doors, rails are all good, no rust in floor pan, it's been lowered, redline wheels, whale tail spoiler. what do you think? ok I just posted the pic of the car on yahoo. check it out http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/juan_renteria2003/album?.dir=/c5e9
  9. actually I don't think 2k is all that bad but I think with the dana 44 ($1000) and doing most of the work myself I can do it for just over 2k installed, plus it already comes with rear disc brakes too boot, at least thats what I think I can do it for. as far as the gear ratio goes, I did a little research and gear sets are freaking cheap for the 44, plus like I said I really would like a nice wide tire and rim combo, for performance and bad azz looks. I've only been to a drag strip once and though it was fun I can't see myself beating up the car at the strip every weekend, I want road grip, handling, but yet be able to smoke some teenagers' hondas on the street. I thought about the the r200 and q45 but it wont help me get any wider tires and wheels on the car, also parts and all would be over 1 k easy, and it gets old going junk yard hunting. as far as power goes I think stock ls1 to maybe 100 more hp plus a shot of nitrous would be about all I think I'll be doing so the 9" I think is way overkill, the four link suspensions I saw all seem to have links that are too long, chassis engineering said they do not recommend links smaller than 20" that would place the brackets up my spine, not too comfortable...lol. question for Scottie, how does your setup handle on the street? was it difficult to properly align the rear end and how did you figure out the bracket location and angle for the dog bone links? I have the c4 service manuals, maybe I'll see if there is anything usefull in there. Thanks update: I just went over the c4 service manual and nope, there isnothing referencing the bracket angle or any measurement I could probably be able to use to locate the rear end (ride height) I know that If I get adjustable coilovers this could be ajusted but shouldn't I set the the wheels hubs/knucke at a certain point for optimum placement?
  10. Hey everyone, I think I've made up my mind on upgrading my rear end, I know it's probably in the wrong thread but I still plan on doing that LS1 and thought I could get a little help from someone with a v8 and modified rear end. I've been doing a lot of searching and reading about the ford 9" and the corvette irs, the problem is I can't seem to get the 9" anywhere under 2k for a compplete narrowed unit. so this is basically a cost driven decision to just go with the c4 corvette dana 44 rear end. plus it just looks cool! anyway I know I will have to narrow it even if I flare out the car, so here are my questions.. after I get the flares, whould I buy the wheels first then determine the amount to narrow it? or should I narrow it and find wheels with the correct offset/bs later? I was trying to figure out if I could just use it without having to narrow it but I want to run like some 315 R17's on nice dished wheel maybe 4" lip would be nice on a 10" to 12" wide rim. I don't think I'll be heading to the track, I want a street car and occasional street drag ( in a controlled environment of course...lol) any help would be nice.
  11. hey everyone, my ls1 purchace went south so now I have to wait for a while to find a good deal again. Since I'll be waiting for a while, I was planning on working on other things that will get my car ready for some v8 power. I have thought about all the LSD options we have, but I wonder why nobody seems to have asked the question about using just the differential out of a c4 corvette. not a complete irs swap, just the diff and adapt the half shafts to use the rest of the datsun irs. people are swapping to lsd's and modifying the halfshaft, etc. anyway right? just a thought
  12. hello, does anyone have the part number for the griffin radiator they are using with their ls1 conversions?
  13. I guess I could get them plain, add the bungs and have them coated afterwards. still wonder is adding the o2 sensors and using catalytic converters would be ok for CA smog since my ride is a 76'. anyone doing CA smog legal LS1 with headers?
  14. Those JTR HEaders look freaking awesome but will they pass the california Smog? if they do I'll get them in a heart beat. how hard was it to install the CAM and tune with LS1 edit? oh and total cost for your mods?
  15. paid 3k for the engine and tranny out of a 02 t/a and 6 speed. 32k miles on it all accessories and fuel pump/tank. sounded like a good deal what do you think? by the way since I've been talking about cats and exhaust, how hard is it to custom build your own exhaust system from the manifold back? just think that gives you more room for getting it exactly how you want. just a thought.
