  1. The only difference is that I haven't bought it yet because I think the 305s are possibly the worst v8s ever made. But since the block I'm getting is about $100, it got me thinking of a unique build. What if I beef up the internals and run a twin turbo setup? Normally with a 350 SBC or any other popular small block of the sort, twin turbo means Ligenfelter power (750-1000hp on their TT vettes). But since the 305 has a lower power output, I think in theory that with the TT setup it should provide more streetable horsepower. I already snooped around the net and found one guy in Knoxville, TN who did it on his 240SX. Anyone ever heard of this besides me? Oh, and it's happy to visit this site again...haven't been here in awhile...
  2. Yep, damn thing never wants to stay in one place...
  3. I searched this part of the forum, but no luck. Can anyone help me find the fuse box in this car? Some pictures will help...
  4. Man I gotta here this baby and see it drive! You gotta post it running on youtube for all of us!
  5. Okay, glad to know I'm not the only one in stockton with a Z. I own a 78 and after reading all these replies, I gotta hand to you because you have a lot of work to do. I graduated from Franklin and I drove to and from there on a 91 non turbo 300ZX so I have a little bit of history with the car. So now I can give you two possible options you can take. One, go for the swap. Now that you have month long breaks next year, if you can take the car home to continue working on it, this swap could be finished well before the project should be due but just make sure your body will be ok like everyone said. You're in CA so I wouldn't worry about rust as much but you never know. Restoring the body can take up a lot of time which you don't have. As for the engine, go to pick n pull. You never know u might strike gold and find a working 350 SBC and if you do, thats only $350-$500. How's that for your budget? The other option is to stick with the engine. L6 are not bad engines. Simply making it turbo should be good enough and upgrading internals should be enough for the teachers to give you a good grade. So as everyone said read the manual and do your research over the summer. Keep in touch and we'll do our best to try and help you out.
  6. POR-15 is affordable. I checked the site, $17.25 for a kit. I can buy two and still be okay. As for the money to restore it, salvage yards are king. Got both fenders and the bumper for $100. Sweet.
  7. Alexideways, please don't be offended by what I am about to say, but I am aware of the Z being a death trap and not being the safest car out there. But the thing about being run off the road or getting smashed by another car can happen no matter what car you're driving. If I had to work to get that five hundred to protect my Z, I would work for it because now that I think of it, $500 (or lower) for a beater every winter, it would be more expensive than $500 one time around or every few years.
  8. I'm thinking of a staggered setup (17s in front, 18s in back). This is the biggest I can go before my ride height goes up and make it look like one of those stupid hyphy oldsmobiles and buicks that are 2 feet above the ground. Any benefits from it? Wonder if I could get some feedback on the idea...
  9. I was considering to just buy a beater for the winter....but $500 is a lot for a college student...I have no choice but to drive what I have. How about applying more than one layer of protectant?
  10. I just finished restoring the body of my 78 280Z from the the ground up, removed all the rust, everything. Now this car will be driving on salted roads, because I go to school at Rhode Island. I want to make this car as resistant to rust as possible. Someone said to use Rhino Paint, I think that's what its called which is the paint-on truck bed liners under the car and wheel wells. Anyone heard of this or tried it before?
  11. But what of you don't have a donor car, but a crate motor? If you swapped in a crate motor, without all the electrical do-dads, what do you do?
  12. I've been trying to access the zcar.com website and it says that it couldn't display it. Anyone knew what happened to it? Did it shut down?
