  1. what did you do with the heater box and control unit? did your have automatic HVAC or the base manual HVAC?
  2. I have a LT1/T56 drive train to put in my Z32, I have already searched the internet and found DTS300's write up on several sites, I have already gutted the interior, and removed most of the unnecessary items from the engine bay. I have also cut a very large hole in the firewall for the huge T56 bell housing. My main question is how tight/close can the top of the trans be to top of the tunnel. and I cant tell but does the T56 shift lever come up in the center of the stock opening or does every thing fit better with the trans a little farther forward.
  3. I have seen a few random posts across the internet where people have swapped LSx's into 90-96 Z32's but they really gloss over the cutting of the firewall and what has to be done to the interior to get the T56 to clear the firewall. I'd like to see as many pics as possible of Z32 V8 swaps, don't feel like posting each pic here just post a link to the page I'll extract the pics. I would like to create a single post with as much z32 related LSx swap info as possible. also about every year or so someone come out saying they can hang a LSx in the Z32 engine bay without cutting the firewall, I really don't care unless they feel like sharing pics that don't include a 5" cowl hood
  4. What bell housing ?? I would love to put my 6.2 in my old Z32 but I don't want to destroy my 100% perfect interior and to be honest I hate working under the dash of a car more than the dentist.
  5. Hey I just stumbeled across this thread, I have done a VG30DE-TT swap into a D21 before, I just wanted to give you a heads up on some silly things that your a charging right at #1 check your dipstick clearance with the turbos mounted and the truck motor mount on there, and you will also need to modify the turbo inlet pipes because of truck motormount clearance. (early 1980's Ford pickups with the I6 have solid rubber mounts work well the are $20ea new at advanced auto) #2 the 4x4 frame has lift built into in on the front Vs. the 2WD frame so you shouldn't have the turbo clearance issues I had, but still check that pass side turbo to frame clearance, you might want to notch the frame rail anyway, also every off the shelf Z32 down pipe will be aimed straight through your pass side T-Bar #3 I had MAJOR clearance issues around the gas pedal & steering shaft, but I'd bet a body lift would cure it all. #4 the 4x4 truck pan is the only pan that will clear the front pumpkin so you might as well just weld oil return fitting onto the 4WD pan and use a 4WD D21 / WD21 oil pickup. #5 skip the TT oil filter tree, use a non turbo oil filter tree and then add an aftermarket oil cooler sandwich plate if you require an oil cooler. the NA tree only has a 1/8 NPT port on it for the oil pressure light, which is perfect for a gauge since the TT mounts the OEM pressure sensor in one of the turbos oil feed lines do you need a wiring harness? I have a stripped VG30DE harness with all the emissions crap removed, all the harness needs is a switched 12V+, constant 12V+ and ground to run a VG30DE off a stock VG30DE(TT) ECU but you will really need NISTUNE or Zmulator to keep the CEL off Oh and I just re read your post about motor mounts, the truck mounts won't clear the turbos or manifolds, use the VG30DE aluminum pedestals with 1980 F150 rubbers on them. and since you had a 4 banger in there before your holes might not line up perfect but I think you will be fine. just slide the engine & trans up in there, bolt in the trans mount to the X-member and figure out which set of holes works best for you. depending on the year of your truck you have any number of holes in the frame for all the possible engines that you could get all around the world in the D21 CA20 all the way up to VG30 and hitting the Z24 and KA24 along the way
  6. Looks good, I'd like to see the under side, could it be too low? Do you have enough clearance for a Carburetor intake?
  7. My Next project YOU decide!!! You guys decide, what path I take, with my next project!! I have started this EXACT thread on 4 internet forums!! I will add up the poll results across all f forums and do whatever the poll's say to. only 1 thing is set in stone, the motor is a GM V8 Iron 6.0 block, LS3 heads should be very close to 600HP all motor and aprox. 800HP on nitrous. The motor will be mated to a Nissan 5 speed through a mid plate. My mass internet poll revolves around what platform to swap the engine into. Option #1 Nissan pickup body, full roll cage, Ford 8.8 rear, modified truck front suspension, coil overs on all 4 corners & 4-link rear Option #2 Nissan pickup body, full roll cage, custom frame rails Nissan Z32 300ZX IRS rear end, Modified Z32 300ZX front suspension, coil overs on all for corners, Option #3 Nissan Z32 300ZX, gutted interior, full cage, iron V8 up front, large cowl hood to clear carb Option #4 Nissan pickup body, full roll cage, back half with Nissan Z32 300ZX IRS rear end, Modified Nissan pickup front suspension, coil overs on all for corners, all the options have pros & cons as far as cost, labor and the final product. I'll give the polls about a week and then follow through with what ever the forums want to see. P.S. this vehical is being built as a jack of all trades, I don't want a 1/4 mile monster, I want somthing I can throw around a road course AND get a decent 1/4 mile out of.
  8. Stock bottom end, Heads, Cam. 500WHP all day you'll have about $2500 in the engine work.
  9. The VG30DE-TT swap didn't go so good, when the going got tough I bought a Z32 and put the motor where it belonged. in reality I made to swap harder than it needed to be but WAY overbuilding the truck for the WHP a stock turbo VG30DE-TT would put down. My bigest mistake was moving the enging down 4" and back 6" it's a quite extensive swap. I really need to know what your working with and what parts you have. What year is your truck? What drive shaft is in your truck? (1PC or 2PC) What motor came in the truck? What trans do you have? i know you are going to need to modify a NA VG30 TRUCK oil pan to fit the TT motor, you will also need the truck oil pump pickup. You are also going to need a custom steering shaft or relocated turbos. also If you run the turbos is the stock location you will need 90-96 JDM TT down pipes to clear the trucks frame. and you need to use the Z32 starter and trans.
  10. If you aren't dead set on the T-56 others have used a mid plate to adapt the Z32 trans to the LS1 block. The Z32 FS5R30A has been pushed well beyond 600WHP and has proven it self. Granted it's no T-56 it give you the ability to keep the stock trans tunnel, and you can hug the trans with the exhaust and get around the steering rack. I have also been toying with the idea of a Pinto style manual steering rack in the Z32. Oh and the regular LS1 corvette manifolds are made out of high nickel steel, and they can be cut, welded & reshaped.
  11. I would give anything to drop my LS1 down into My Z32 W/O cutting the car.
  12. I'd like to see that. and the cadilac CTS-V uses a bumped back shifter like the Z32 5 speed.
  13. You dont need to move the entire firewall back just the area around the bell housing.
  14. PM's aren't an option on your name?? It seems like hacking up the fire wall is required to do the swap. If that's true then I'll just swap to TT, I already have a hacked up firewall in my hardbody pickup that I swapped to VG30DE-TT, the Z is going to be my daily driver I cant loose the time it takes to gut the car and do the firewall. I'll just do the LS1 in my truck and take the TT out of the truck an dput it in the NA Z.
  15. Hey guys I happen to have both a LS1 bottom end that I put together for a guy that ran out of money, and a 1990 Z32 N/A with a rod knock. I have been searching this board and I know that there area few LSx powered Z32's out there. any info on the actual swap wouldb be great. what motor mounts you sue, headers(C5 vette I assume)? oil pan (camaro I asume) I would also realy like to use a z32 trans. I really don't want to shell out T56 money because I know the Nissan FS5R30A can handle 5.7L LSx power with heads / cam.
