  1. Hey Ross, What did your old headers fit(heads) and are they in good condition? Maybe you'd like to sell them? My engine, at least temporarily, has 70's 993 heads that have been milled. Thanks, Bob
  2. Hey Guy, Merry X-Mas! I really like your header design. Between you and Ross C., it shows there are some really creative people on this site. Your idea looks real good. Keep us posted on your progress. Oh yeah, your website looks good, too. Thanks, Bob
  3. Ross, I'd like to see those wedges you're talking about. Sounds like the answer for all of us 280ZX owners. My aim for this project in the short term is to get my 300horse 350 and 700R4 in and get the car back on the road then look into performance increases after sorting the car out.
  4. Like Mudge says pick whichever engine you feel you can work on. I prefer a Chevy in mine because the parts are cheap and plentiful. But whichever you decide on(Chevy or Ford), you can build it as wild or mild as your wallet allows. There are a couple of guys building 300ZX's now. Just use search for 300zx sbc and take a look. Good luck!
  5. 80LT1, I too would be interested in your header project if it isn't too expensive(all X-mas'd out). I have the power box steering how about you? Thanks, Bob
  6. Power is always a priority when thinking about a swap like this(300+hp vs 150hp). But I do aim to build for future power increases. My main concern at the moment is to prepare the front of the car for best performance which would dictate the need for headers. If you know of headers that will work with a manual r&p steering then I'll start scrounging the yards here to find the parts I need. How heavy is the steering with a manual r&p?
  7. Ouch that looks tight. Please clarify for me. "Box style" - does that mean recirculating ball type steering? I believe that's what mine is(it's in storage right now and can't compare the two). Also is your engine offset per JTR and is your passenger side similar to the driver side? Thank you, Bob
  8. I guess I should address this to Mr. Greimann but I would appreciate any input. I've been reading up on the driver side exhaust problem and I'm wondering how yours is set up. Thanks, Bob
  9. Are telling me you've done SIX of these? That must mean you just don't like ZX's. I knew I should have kept my old clapped out 75 280Z. I just didn't know what I was doin-I swear! Since you're that good I'll get back to you on that trans mount. like they say the early bird gets the worm or trans mount in this case. Thanks again, Bob
  10. Tee Zee, No harm no foul. I had to get off the web quick to take care of home business so I had no real opportunity to reply to all of the replies to my post. I would be interested in getting a mount from you though(you are a GOOD fabricator right?). I have very limited fabrication skills. I would like to get this ZX up and back on the road again so any help/advice you have to offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bob
  11. 93-97 or so Camaro Z28's and TransAm's have either the 4L60E(automatic) or T56(six speed) tranny. You'll need the factory wiring harness and computer to make them work in your Z. Check out the JTR web page. They sell other manuals covering the wiring of these swaps. It would be easier to buy a wrecked car and get all the wiring and computer from it for your swap. Be prepared to pay $3000 or more for the wreck. Good luck on your swap.
  12. Hey Guy, you sound like the man I need to talk to. I can handle fitting the motor to the ZX frame, but I would really like to buy that MSA tranny mount you have. It sounds like there really IS a Santa Claus after all. Lets see if we can make this deal. Its time make this ZX a runner again(faster and better than ever before). Thanks, Bob
  13. Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I have learned alot about the Z swaps reading all of your posts for the past couple of years. But sadly too few people were doing ZX's. I bought a '80ZX a couple of years ago just to drive and enjoy but just when I didn't need it the car decided to have a bonfire without me. So to make a long story short, I decided to go with a V8 rather than repair the L28. I hope to be able to start on my swap soon(within a month) and will surely need some dumb questions answered. Thanks again guys as has been said before "This is the BEST swap forum on the web!!!"
  14. I need a little help. I've been an unregistered viewer here for quite a long time and finally, after a minor disaster, decided to v8 my ZX. I have purchased the JTR manual(twice) and have a large pile of parts to throw in my car(1980 280ZX). My question regards the trans mount. I'll be using a 350 and a TH700R4 trans. What is the best way to mount the tranny if I can't use the JTR mount? Thanks in advance for your help.
