Pics taken back when I got this sexy thing. Only paid $1200 which I was very happy with.
  2. Alright, I do apologize for that. It was a full day in the garage and I was very frustrated with my L28. I got lazy and posted before going to sleep, sorry. I've searched every thread I could find now, and I have seen a couple posts that agree with your idea that the stock ZX mounts will do the trick with a little drilling. After I get hold of my shop and get their advice I'll probably go with pat1's sump if he still sells them. My searching here and google can't turn up anything reasonable on how to tell if that exhaust will mate up with that downpipe though. I imagine my shop can mod them if they had to but if there is a way to tell if the one I am buying will fit that would obviously be better.
  3. Hey guys! I just got an Rb25det given to me as a gift; it's a crate motor ready to go with trannie. I want to take it in to my GSMotorsports shop to swap it for my broken non-turbo L-series in my '83 2+2. They want me to gather the parts that I can find so it doesn't sit around their shop while they order things. I've bought this downpipe so far. http://www.ng2squared.com/RB25-RB25-DET-3-Stainless-Downpipe-_p_417.html Will this exhaust fit on, even though it's designed for the L-series? http://www.ebay.com/itm/CXRacing-Stainless-Catback-Exhaust-For-82-83-Datsun-280ZX-S130-L28ET-Turbo-/161221708909?_trksid=p2054897.l4275 The friend that gifted me the engine told me it should. If you have any other or better suggestions for exhaust (hopefully under $5-600) I would love to hear them. The main problem I am having though, is the motor mounts. I can find TONS for the s30 chassis but none for my ZX. Are they interchangeable? My friend is not very familiar with Z-cars at all, he's a honda/240sx guy so he kind of left me to the wind, but none of the s30 mount listings mention the s130//zx, so I'm thinking they aren't. If you can point me in the right direction for the mounts or if the case is that I'll have to get them fabricated or something, please let me know. The shop will fab the drive shaft and wiring harness for me, but is there anything else I might need for this swap? I appreciate any replies, I'm really lost on this one and don't want to see my poor 280 sit in the garage any longer than it has to.
  4. This does make me feel better, and I do agree strongly on the last point. It still blows people away when I tell them my '81 has automatic mirrors XD. For a street car, an LS1 is nearly overkill for how much power I would like, so I don't really mind the ZX being a little heavier than the Z anyway, though that is personal choice.
  5. Hey all; I'm not a long time car enthusiast, but within the last year it has become a big part of my life, so please be patient with my limited knowledge; I'm learning as fast as I can. I just inherited an '81 280zx with no turbo, and the engine is old (and weak) ... soo... The gen III engine idea has been growing on me; I've been doing a lot of research on both it and the zx; I know the Z is preferred for a lot of reasons, but I HAVE a zx now. I also can't find any finished LS1 swap projects that exist for it yet, and from a post here I understand I will have to do a little work to get the driver's side headers to fit... but I'm not deterred. I have a quick question for the boards as part of this intro I guess... do you have somewhere here to post 'journal'-like results and progress as I try to make this happen?
