  1. i finally got the car running ok... i adjusted the idle screw on the TB and i hooked that pipe under it to my PVC valve then to a vacume line to the pump. i didnt screw the PVC onto the intake i just leave it sitting there. i have the to hoses leaving the charcol canister unpluged. (i dont no if thats good or not) i have another problem though, at first the car wouldnt come out of first gear (automatic trans) till 45mhp and 4k rpm. i was like wtf.. then i noticed a tear in the vacume line from the intake manifold to the trans line. i replaced it just now and is all better. but where the problem lies is, the car dosent have the same get up and go as it used to. i cant squeel tires and now my o-60 is like 20sec. a 50 ton 18 wheeler would destroy me off the line. do you have any clue what could be going on? i checked vacume... could it be the timing? i dont no i hope its the timing because the car sounds like its caming. i can hear the rockers clicking pretty loudly. the vacuum advance is still hooked up.. help...
  2. whenever i work on the car its between 60-70+ degrees outside so i should worm up pretty fast you would think. even then, when its warm, that pipe under the TB just keeps sucking in air then causes the car to die. then whenever i plug it, the same thing happens. ???
  3. yea i tried that but cant get it to idle anywhere above 500. and it only raise that high when i put thumbs over the ends and barely let air through. it seems as if everyone who does this has done it with 240 TB's. If i've done this right should there be ANY vacume lines leading into the throttle body??? thanks
  4. Hey guys i lost my key so i ended up getting a new ignition switch before i could start the car again.. After i poped that in i made a couple corrections. i grounded everything... then i plugged the two holes on top of the afm-tb connecting tube. Then i attempted to start the car and it did the same thing, it wouldnt stay on un less i held the gas. while doing this i heard a whistleing sound. it turnd out the be the pipe on the bottom of the TB thats supposed to go into the idle control valve. this now ive tried serveral things like plugging it, running it back into the intake, leaving it open... etc nothing works. but this is why i think this is my problem is because when i hook this up... this is the only way i can get it to idle, and at that, it on idles at 300 rmp just bearly on... how do i control the idle or am i missing something, because the car will start but it wont hold unless im on the gas. thanks hybrid
  5. Long story short i lost the only key to my 82 280zx, and i didnt make a copy like a moron... I wanted to no if anyone had a working ignition switch they'd sell. Thanks!
  6. Nice FlatBlack! funny thing is im leaving this afternoon for arkansas to canoe down the buffaloe for about for days. i hope around this time the water isnt to cold!
  7. your right i forgot about those grounds, so its ok to not even have the AAC valve? nothing running through it and unplugged?
  8. yea, ive dug myself a pretty deep one. I noticed that i didnt properly ground everthying. and im pretty sure your right, the hoseing is way off. to be honest i thought i could re route some of the lines back into the intake without caping off some of them. esp because i didnt hook up the idle controls. hopeing that the car would just idle normaly without all that other stuff. lol my fault about the angle, and the preasure regulator is hooked into the intake between the 3rd and 4th ports
  9. The wrinkling paint came from alittle fuel that dripped down. after i bolted everything back up... i probly could of avioded that. i did although use high temp paint.
  10. hey guys i need some help. basicly somewhere down the line i got the crazy idea to shave an n47 intake and slap it on my p79 head with no cold start, i dle control, pcv, nothing leading in or out the top side of the throttle body. the results... drum roll please...... the car wont start.... or it will, only after holding the gass down and after getting it to start continously tapping the gas to keep it going.... here are some pics of my setup.. looks ok, but isnt blocked egr block off plates on the intake and throttle body, blocked off hose coming from the coolent housing kept the breather from the block and left the inlet under the throttle body open (should probly go the something) like i said nothing hooked up on top of the tbody nothing hooked up to the cold start. blocked off egr on the exhaust manifold left this metal pipe open, i dont no if i should block it off or hook it up to something. my gay welder and paintin stuff here are some vids, check em out sooo basicly i need help with this hole thing because spring break is coming up in one week and the ladies love 280's.! thanks guys
  11. i was searching for a walk through on swaping dizzys and couldnt find one sooo i need some help. i want to install MS on my n/a 82 zx. if i wasnt going to go with edis6 how do i swap the n/a dizzy with a turbo one? thanks
  12. thanks, yep im pretty sure i'll look back on all this and be like, man wtf. Saw blades... that guy BRAAP* is a monster. someone had there thinking cap on. Im going to put mind on and ask another stupid question... you guys are right EDIS is pretty cheap, esp. on ebay. That gear like disk that comes with EDIS is the crank angle sensor right? its positiond on the crank and when it turns, it sends a signal to the modual then the coils then the car starts right? Soo the benifit of hooking up MS to the dizzy though a turbo one or EDIS is that you might be able to adjust the timing or atleast view it. right? oh and maybe the spark. Anyone no any good walkthroughs on installing EDIS6? thanks
  13. ... for i was blind, now i can see and to be quiet honest i feel pumped after a response like that theres not much you can ask. Now knowing that theres not much difference between the na and turbo pistions, im going to unleash hell on that engine, within a 19 year okd means of course. Gollum, there is one thing, you mentioned installing edis6 but not having to as a requirment. If i werent going to [not saying that in not] but if i wasnt, how would i was MS with the na dizzy? i did read about a guy welding a plate in the dizzy and removing the vacume control valve in there then locking it. but that seems to risky...? any options thanks this is starting to sound too easy. megasquirt, turbo, then tune.. na
  14. so you just said screw the stock harness, deleted it, and installed MSII and went from there right? Nice
  15. you guys have been around the block a couple times i see, good information, it would make sense doing standalone before boosting rather than zxt ecu and boosting. thanks
  16. hey mike, nice thread man. i have to say this post has most likely helped alot of people. i for one can safly say it is going to help me. i do have a question though, you added MS because boosting an NA engine means you also have to do some fuel, air and timing adjustments right? what exactly is megasquirt? i no its an EMS but what else did you have to do to incorporate it. especially when it comes to the dizzy... i have a 82 na with a p79 head im looking to boost and i no i dont have a crank angle sensor? thanks and good job
  17. dude flatblack, where the heck did you find those threads man, sooo informative, that last one is Exactly what i needed. thanks bro you guys are right, even though it probly took hours to find those, the search works. and i though i was the only one trying to do this...
  18. geeze all this just to tubo an NA car. Dosent seem like much or to hard to do. just take time and i guess all the materials an tools. trying to find a decent running turbo engine around here (carolinas) is pretty difficult.
  19. hahaha yea i've already clicked that andd ah it was pretty funny, i pretty much can use the search feature hybridz has for the rest i guess:-) just wish i wouldnt have to go through the whole new ems thing before turboing! thanks

    Nistune

Hey guys i was thinking about turboing my 82 280zx, from the NA l28 base. but alot of guys are saying that i should upgrade the ecu first. would installing Nistune or any system frist be a good step? do i have to go with nistune? and if i did would i need z31 conponents? thanks alot!
  21. When you guys are talking about aftermarket ECU, are you guys talking about EDIS, Megasquirt, or Wold3D? those type of managment systems or some other stand alone system i could use? Or would just plugin in the ecu from an l28et serfice? thanks
  22. guess this means turbo would be a better rout than just headers right haha would doing it right mean putting turbo pistons and valves in before boosting? wouldnt have to wory about the dizzy? which brings me to ask this, does anyone no why, between the to l28 model engines, (turbo an NA) is alot of the this different? Like the turbo dizzy, turbo oil pump, even turbo fuel pump and coil?? wtf
  23. mayby someone could help me out with some advice. i have an NA 82 that i was thinking about boosting but affraid of doing so with stock internals even though i heard it was possible, but with low boost. soo i was thinking about slapping some headers on it maybe to gain alittle power. My question is, is it true i could put a stock turbo, manifold, and oil pump and be fine under low boost. if i went the turbo route? Or if i went the header path, what headers would sound best? and what is the largest size piping should be ran with an NA car? thanks
  24. Grumpy, Hi I've been thinking about doing a swap and making some power with my 280zx but i dont no what route to take. Im 18 about to graduate and i wanted to do a swap over the summer. I could get my hands on an lt1 or old carb'd 350 pretty easy. But i want to daily drive the car and i want the swap to be not insanely hard. Other than a different drive shaft, trans, fuel pump, and motor mounts. what else would i need for an older 350 swap? and what different would i neet for an lt1 swap? and lastly witch one would be easier? thanks
