  1. Hey guys, another question, seeing you guys were saying that the n42 block can theoretically handle a higher over bore can it handle an overall bore of 91mm????
  2. thanx Daeron for that design program, that will come in really handy as i figure out the final details. Seems you've been on near the closest contributor here:mrgreen:
  3. Quick few questions. With an ld28 crank and custom forged pistons and rods and displacement at roughly 3100 what would an overbore to 90mm do to the displacement? is 90mm the recommended limit for the f54 block? whats the safe bore limit of the n42 block? or just a link to a faq page thnx cant find one
  4. Well i don't know much about the overall toque increases by either stroking or over boring but by the 'gross simplification' you guys have given me i believe that i now have a better understanding of were i want to go in terms of raising the displacement, a quick question though. what's the difference between the n42 and f54 blocks and what are the safest overbores for all cylinders for both blocks? i've heard you don't really want to go over 90mm on the F54 block, is that right? sorry if my lack of knowledge on these things might offend you guys thats why im asking the questions instead of just thinking everythying will work out, i must say it's better than what some people can say on these forums:mrgreen:
  5. HAHA this is awesome this is what i want to hear, i am a bit of a questionnaire:mrgreen: I do want to learn about this build and i want to do it myself, i just want the numbers and basically a few little things i'd prefer, twin turbo, efi etc. I would like to call up a shop and ask them a few questions in a few months when i start getting the stuff but right now its to see if this is a reasonable and plausible idea (apart from the fact that this is a crazy unique build) I know that you can go anyway with a stroker, there are so many possibilities in the different ways to do this, with all the dimensions that some will be lower and others will be higher equaling a completely different feeling stroker. keep it coming guys this is going awesome.
  6. Yeah I've read that the best thing to do is research your arse of so absolutely nothing catches you off, again I'm not planning on buying anything just yet so sorry guys no point offering stuff I'm more for opinions. As for 3.2 being ambiguous, i figure go hard or go home, I'm planning for a 3.1 setup with the crank burling it up to 3.2 :trippen:but who knows, the base setup should be roughly 300hp+ and a monstrous amount of torque, and i know those arent small numbers:mrgreen:. when i start of then as the whole cars complete gradually working it up too its limits, were talking the whole driveline will be able to take 650 from the start to save me buying 3 gearboxes along the way Oh and im from Victoria up in the hills Aaron, should be in melbourne in a year or two though. keep it coming guys:worthless:
  7. Haha i'm not sure whether to be happy with that aussie comment or what but it is true we like our Z's. I think i've already said this but i'll say it again, THERE IS NO LIMIT IN BUDGET, as i have a lot of time and a decent income, I just don't want to take any shortcuts and don't want to put myself out of pocket on anything uneccessary. oh well at least some of yous are listening. Oh and this is not a drag car, its a street/track car. That 5 speed sounds interesting, might be unnecessary if i can get another factory Z gearbox that is tough enough to mate with it, maybe that r200? also anyone heard of the Nissan/Borg Warner T5 5-speed, good for the job or still too pricey and unnecessary when i could get a factory z one? might also go the r200 lsd, but this is about motor and gearbox so i'll figure that out later Thanks for the arp hardware info, see thats what i wanna know, and the ceramic coat info sounds good, could be a good investment for keeping this thing reliable and bullet proof keep it coming. sorry just saw your post. This time is more for research than actually getting the parts so don't wait on me to buy it ok. but good luck on the rb swap, i rather an L type though, they sound better:mrgreen:
  8. Well i don't have a 6k budget i know it wont be that cheap The car is going to be a track/street weapon. Sounds like you have a good project there pity this type of thing takes so much out of your wallet:shifty: I'm aiming for a drive line that wont go off if I hammer the car for a full day, so were talking not only a tough gearbox but tail shaft LSD and axles are all going to have to be bullet proof. but the goal of this thread is to find out any helpful hints from people who have don't this thing, i would like a 5 speed gearbox though Again there's no price range because I have time just don't want to take shortcuts and hurt myself in the long run.
  9. ok ill check out the n42 block, that's the type of stuff i wanna know The reason why i want tt is because i prefer the feel of reliable and constant boost over a single turbo. and the fact that you have alot more range for power without lag than with a single
  10. Ok so I'm building a 3.2L L28 custom twin turbo for my 240z, for my own reasons its got to be a l28ett so don't try and say about how itd b cheaper to v8 it ok so far my research has come up with very little but as a mechanic i have a rough idea on what i need, but i still have some questions about the little things so i don't get caught out and be put 6k out of pocket for something that i don't end up needing. My overall plan for the motor is: -P90A head ported and polished -F54 block stroked -Megasquirt standalone system -Greddy turbo's -LD28 Crank -Custom forged rods and pistons I know theres a fair it missing in stuff i need but these are my only prerequisites. I'd like to know about a few things yet such as: -gearbox, has to take 650hp and a sh**load of torque. -Better option for the head, i've heard that for modding they aren't the p90 head is better for parts. -Cams, i am aiming for torque more than hp. -Flywheel -anything i've missed ie. rod pins, mounts, twin turbo manifolds, bearings etc. PRICE IS NOT A PROBLEM! i don't want to take shortcuts and i have a decent income and a lot of time for this build, I want this motor to be reliable too. any info would be great thanks
  11. See i am aiming for a thread that showcases all prices and parts that are of top quality ie. WONT BRAKE IN 30 SECOND ON TRACK! and are the most adaptable/reliable
  12. OK so i have been doing a bit of research over the past 6 months and as hard as i try i have difficulty finding stuff on the net about prices and the right parts etc. I'm better at building a motor:D So i have decided to make a thread on the work and cost of a l28 stroker, and i need everyone's help. Not only to help me with my up and coming build (L32ETT)but to help others too considering it, i don't want everyone wandering around blind having no idea on what parts are best suited for what, what the prices are, and eventually them getting in over there head, so i need everyone to post up the following info or pm me with it PLEASE! Need the following info on L28 stroker, n/a and turbo(twin turbo incl.): FOR N/A PATH -Block best suited to stroke from 3 to 3.2L (F54?), prices etc. -Heads suited for what jobs, prices. -Injectors, headers and carbs info, again prices. -Cranks, Rods, Pistons etc. for stroker (LD28?), prices -Cams for different jobs (torque or hp, mix), prices -Different Gearboxes for L28 convertion into different models and which suited for best job(drag, drift, track, street), prices. -Different LSD's for different jobs, prices. FOR TURBO PATH (twin or single) -Block best suited to sroke form 3 to 3.2L (heard F54 best for this), prices -Suitable heads for turboing and different uses, whether ported and polishing needed for the different heads, prices. -Cranks, Rods, Pistons etc. for stroker (LD28?), prices -Cams for different jobs (torque or hp, mix), prices -Injectore or carbs for what jobs (don't say whats best based on PERSONAL preferences), prices. -What gearboxes best suited and hp and torque strengths, prices. -Turbo's and Manifolds, piping etc, diffent hp and torque increases(Greddy, hks or standerd ones from different cars, include codes and sizes), prices. -LSD's for different jobs, prices. Links are also SUPER HELPFULL, if you've done a stroker convert put up info, if you someone that has ask them to put it up too. thanks Hotwyr.
