  1. I'm having a few issues replacing the alternator in my '76 280z and haven't been able to find any information on this. I had found this post: http://www.newprotest.org/details.pl?1236 It seems like the opposite problem of what I'm having. The car currently has the alternator to the right. The automotive store gave me the one to the left. I have no clue where to wire up the "Phase" wire and the Condenser wire to. This is what I have: Current (I've circled the areas where the wires were connected to): New one from store:
  2. I believe only the California models had the EGR, so it would need to be off a California model. If the car doesn't have the EGR tube, then it won't have this adapter. I was having some work done on the exhaust and the mechanic lost this part. I need to get this car smogged this coming month and haven't had any luck at the Junk yards. MSA doesn't even carry it, just the tube.
  3. I need the adapter that attaches the EGR tube to the manifold intake. Here's where its located, number six on the list: http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsunS30/DatsunFairladyZIndex/Engine280Z/ManifoldEgr/ToJul76/tabid/1605/Default.aspx It has to be from a '75 or '76, any other year will not work. Need one ASAP!
  4. I've had this problem with the Z for about a year now and still can't really figure out what I'm looking at/for. You can't open the door from the outside of the driver's door, but if you pull the door-lock nob up and the latch at the same time from the inside, it opens. The door also doesn't close all the way shut, so it rattles a bit when you drive. I've given up at one point and took it to a Nissan Dealer and they couldn't figure it out and told me to just get another door. I've already had body work done on this door a few years ago, and '75-'76 doors just don't just pop-up on the market when ever I need one. Anyone know what the problem is? I'm thinking of taking the door apart and replacing the whole lock-latch assembly. Are all S30s interchangeable? Or do I need to look for '75-'76?
  5. How do you go about wiring the shift light? I think the Autometer Pro Comp Tachometer doesnt come with a shift light option, so im just curious what you have to do to wire up an option like that? Any place/link for wiring diagrams?
  6. I already tested it before to see if there was any spark. I fixed the problem and i have it running now. The problem was the alarm system. I spent this past weekend pulling out the harness, checked for fried/disconnected wiring, and removed the alarm system. Plugged everything back in and she fired up on the first start.
  7. I picked up a 280z about three months ago, ran perfectly fine and had a 5 speed installed. But just a few weeks ago its just stopped sparking. Before that it made that traditional solenoid clicking sound problem and didn't want to start until you tried again a few minutes later. I've unplugged and plugged back in all the spark plugs (wires are new). It cranks and is getting fuel, I can smell it from the exhaust, but just no spark. Battery is good too. So I've sort of come to the conclusion that its either the: distributor ignition switch starter relay bad wire? aftermarket alarm (that came in the car, looks like a hack job) This is my first z, and the last project car I had was a 240sx, so bare with me if I still haven't got a clue on where to locate certain spots on this car. I work two jobs and go to school so I only have time to work on one of these a week, so I want to figure out what I should do first? I know I'm probably going to have to over all of these, but I'm hoping to save time on some opinions or any other ideas on why its not sparking? Where should I start first?
