  1. Hey Montezuma, Ya, you're right, sometimes the most obvious is the best. I like your suggestion of sandblasting and powder coating. Do you (or ANYBODY ELSE!) have any idea of how to assess whether or not any structural damage is/has been/can be done to a wheel by rust/oxidation. I guess visual inspection after the sandblast would give a lot of information (i.e. if the oxidation penetrated significantly beyond simple surface rust) but I do wonder about people's real world experience. Thanks! Todd
  2. Hi, Have '75 280z that came with aftermarket wheels (aluminum dish style). A neighbor who was former 280z owner just game me the original wheels and hubcaps off his car. The steel wheels are pretty rusted given that they were stored outside but the hubcaps seem to be in great shape. Thus my question....where or how to find new wheels that will fit the old hubcaps? Alumnium? Steel? Or even used but in good condition OEM wheels? Thanks!!!! Todd
  3. Jasper....answer to your Q is mine is an auto tranny (for now).... PrOxLaMuS...thanks for the link, will research that direction more. ModernS30...another question for you. If rings, why would it be very intermittent? Having seen motors w/ring issues before, they smoke pretty much all the time. I just don't understand that one. Thanks to all for your advice! Todd
  4. Hi, Could use some help. Still pretty much a newbie to the z-car scene. Have '75 280z that my family bought me to restore for Xmas. Anyway, have it running (sort of) well enough to drive 10-30 mile round trips. Well, the short cut to the story is that during such a length trip the car will puff smoke (fairly white, but it SMELLS LIKE OIL) briefly but intense enough that it reminds me of some of those smoke-screen tricks you see in a James Bond movie (ok, more likely Maxwell Smart TV show!). Seems to do it only when decelerating or at least not while accelerating. Weird part that I'm having trouble comprehending is that it is very intermittent--its not like I'm a rolling trail of smoke. Did the search, didn't find anything that really hit on the symptoms I'm seeing (and I've never seen such different behavior before, but then again I'm not used to diagnosing 35 yr old cars). Friend of mine suggests that it might be valve seal going bogus. Any hints or other ideas of what's my car's problem? Thanking all of you in advance for your help! Todd
