  1. Well I guess posting a picture of the tag is irrelevant at this point, but I am still intrigued by what 73 features may have been utilized on my Z. I read through the Classic Z stuff a bit to see some of the features that changed. My understanding is that in 73 they switched from fiberglass to steel headlight buckets, which mine has, but that's not to say someone along the last 40 years didn't just replace some old, busted buckets, or something. I'll be scouring the site for leads or photos to compare with my car, but if anyone happens to find or want to see something on mine for comparison, Let me know. Otherwise, thanks for the help/clarification.
  2. I snapped a picture of the tag earlier, but I guess I'm just a newb, cause I can't figure out how to attach it without a photobucket or something. (Guess they changed the interface since the last time I uploaded pictures in a post.)Door tag obviously matches. The car was altered from the time I bought it, so I don't know what to look for, otherwise. It has a 3.1 stroker (N42 combo), I believe it's a Rebello, but my only clue was "A reputable shop in the Z community built the engine in NorCal." It's sporting a pair of S.U.'s right now and also has a 5 speed manual. The inside has aftermarket seats and steering wheel, too. I haven't changed too much on it since I bought it, otherwise. Let me know if there's something specifically that you'd like to see. The engine is kinda torn apart right now, but I'd be happy to oblige, otherwise, in the interest of learning something new about my car.
  3. Hey, guys. I think this is the most appropriate place to put this. I need clarification on reading the VIN on these cars. I was under the Impression that the HLS30 was read as H=L24, L=LHD, and S30 is obviously the body style, then the numbers following were the production number. That's where I get lost because according to my references, only 60,000-something 240z,s were produced in 1972 (My model's year), and of that, only 52,628 made it to the US. That being the case, how is mine # 99,336? I know someone out there knows what I'm doing wrong, so someone help, please? Thanks.
  4. I actually used to work for Champion and still talk to the owners regularly. Last I checked, they were using the same manufacturing plant as Mishimoto, so the quality should be comparable with the price setting them apart. I ran a 3row with my Rebello 3.1 for a long time before I took my car apart without any concerns. I have their 4 row to replace it with, now, simply cause it's bigger and nicer. I'm curious as to where these pin holes are occurring or any other feedback you guys might have. I can relay it on to the owners so they can eliminate the problems.
  5. Looking for 240z radiator hoses on the cheap. I don't care if they're OE Braided or aftermarket, as long as they're in decent condition and fit right. One of the last pieces I need before I get my car back on the road. Shipped to 89060 Thanks
  6. Umm, I'll chime in as I used to work for Champion and I can tell you I'd rather use their rads than anything else. Quite frankly I've seen Turbo Z's running OE Brass/Copper and they seem to be working out just fine but The quality of Champions is paralleled only by Mishimoto, since they use the same factory. They're literally Mishimoto rads with OE style mounting and 3 Rows to maximize cooling capacity. Not to mention Al Allen at Datsun Parts was always a pleasure to work with. Here's a picture of my Champion 3Row used to run for my 3.1 Stroker before I got my hands on their 4Row. It's insane overkill but I love it. Also:Champion has smaller 3 row rads keeping 800hp V8 drag monsters cool in Las Vegas summer heat. I imagine you probably won't be building anything close to that, so they're your safest bet. Also their rads come with a lifetime warranty so if it every fails on you they'll replace it for free.
  7. Yeah, I don't know how many people use these headers anymore but once I get them cleaned up I'll try some things and if I can get them to drop back in without catching on everything again I'll let you guys know how I did it. My only concern is when I did find these listed anywhere, this site included, they were listed as LHD for the S30 specifically. "Parts Guide For Retro Rides - Restoring Japan Nissan Motorsports Race Header Application: '70-78 Datsun Z MSRP: $600 PART NUMBER: 99996-E1141, use at local Nissan Dealership Source: www.nissan4parts.com, to download catalog" If I would have bought these after research as opposed to already having them I probably would have been pretty frustrated.
  8. Wow that was fast. But it looks like you're right. I didn't even know Nismo made headers for l28's. Even so, why would they make headers that don't fit LHD Z's? But anyway, mystery solved. Thanks for your help.
  9. Sorry for any ignorance that may come across, as this is my first post. Normally I just use HybridZ to search out what I'm looking for and get on with my life but this time I can't find the answer here, or on any other forum/search engine, and need help. I currently own a 72 240z with a 3.1 Stroker that I'm in the process of tearing apart to refresh. I bought the car already built, but worn out, about 3 years ago and after driving it for about 6 months I put it to rest till I could start fixing stuff. Along the way I've been finding all sorts of parts I didn't even know I had, but I have no idea what these headers are. They were a nightmare to get out and I think they're from Japan or at least off a RHD Z, since the steering rack is what made it so difficult. Also, there's a small dent on the third pipe all the way at the bottom where I think it was either knocked in to fit around the steering rack or it straight took a hit from it. Either way, I know there's people here that can help identify these. Help please.
