  1. Its been a while- Built a 3" exhaust and modified the collector- gained 10hp from 3200 to 5200rpm... Even though I only attend shows, but learned something. Will start a new thread as big red will be pulled out of the warehouse next week..
  2. Hi Folks, My favorite style wheels are the Hoshino G5 and Longchamps. Here's a picture of my z about 15 years ago. It handled horribly due to the flexing of sidewall and I removed them. Wheel size 15x9f and 15x10r. Correct tire sizes are very difficult to come by nowadays and I'm opting to build this styling in a 3 piece wheel as well as the longchamps. In addition, my BBK will not fit inside a 15" barrel. I've CAD modeled both wheels and having and FEA analysis done before we machine the centers. My design will be 16" face with stepped lip to fit 17" tires. Feel free to post or email me. I'm always busy and don't frequent the forums too often. Hooverc@turbohoses.com
  3. Hey Folks, It's been a while. I've been gathering parts to rebuild the red z in the avatar; I am removing the big IMSA flares. A customer bought my exhaust and I'm going to reinstall my 3" stainless exhaust since I don't have a lot of time nowadays for extra work. I'll post pics of this shortly. I'm also making a post on old school wheels that I'm remachining.
  4. Did some More Minor tuning, but still needs a bit of TLC.
  5. Hi Folks, I finally broke on the way to Cars and Coffee. I made it 15 times consecutively and simply blew a fuse. My Lotus customer picked me up. Lots of people headed to the show recognized the car and pulled over, but I had tow truck in the way. Still went to the show in another car since I live only 2 minutes from the location. All in all, It was Rather funny!
  6. Drove home in the rain. The windshield wiper motor worked better and better during the duration of the drive home.....must have knocked the rust off that too.....
  7. Cleaned up engine bay, but exhaust header work will be next week.
  8. Made good use of the day. Andy Craig (Datsun Z auto-X and road race champion) came in and worked on my car while I took care of customers and day to day work load. Feels good that all the big boxes of parts were finally being installed.
  9. Boxes of parts have arrived, but I lack the space and he time for even simple work......
  10. It's been a widebody all its life. Hard to drive as wheel offset really aren't right which affects scrub radius, bump steer and bearing loads. I'll keep the flares and body got memories. Boxes of parts arrived yesterday from MSA and few other sources. It was like Xmas.
  11. Well.........I made two orders to MSA today and bought another set of ZG flares. I've located a couple of fenders for the front of the Red Z. It only took seconds to spend a few thousand on restoration parts......no real easy way.........
  12. HI Everyone! Hope you are all enjoying the Super Bowl!!!! It's been quite some time that I've frequented the forum etc.... I've had a great time with the Z and attended every Cars & Coffee last year and so far this year! The Z has run flawlessly. My wife decided to use the garage and even with a HUGE garage, two full-sized pro-shops, I ended up not having space to park the Z, so it sits under a car cover and I use the Z once a month to attend car shows. Today I noticed from just being parked under a car cover and the recent rains, it's needs some TLC: window seals, engine hardware needs changing, ceramic coatings for exhaust finally needs to be done and a very small fuel leak on the fuel rail. In addition, I prefer the stock gauges, wooden wheel/shift knob or Nissan Comp. wheel (which doesn't look as classy). I wish there were more hours in a day, but at least I get to drive the Z whenever I want. This evening, I ordered a wrinkle finish black valve cover, new engine hardware and looking for all the other parts that I could finish within a few days. So........I've met so many people attending the car shows and worked on a few Z projects from referals. My other Z, the red one in the avatar has been on my mind. Honestly, it's in a billion pieces and I'm not sure I can stomach a job at this level, but I can't stand seeing it just sit there lifeless. What to do? My schedule is booked with client projects this entire year and there are other cars that I'm very interested in. All in all, I need to consider the build-theme before purchasing parts, and that will begin with the large IMSA flares; although cool, I'm considering removing them for a different look but still retain the gnose. Anyways.... Enjoy the last quarter of the game.......
  13. I emailed them but no response. If he has the pieces, I can repair them and make molds if anyone else wants this.... Help!!!!!
  14. Hey Folks, I hope you all are having a great summer! School starts for my son in 3 weeks. We've attended nearly all of the Cars & Coffee events and met a ton of people this summer. This week, we head to Monterey Car week, but not with the Zed, unfortunately. We're packing bags and may have a passengers at the event. Yesterday, I made the decision to install a Gnose. The front end is already getting cleaned up, then will fit it to the body then paint. I'm looking for this airdam, but if it's not available, I'll have to somehow make one. Any ideas where I can buy this?
  15. i think these are gnose hinges....... today didn't have the time to do anything more than looks through boxes of parts....
  16. Thanks, NGOZ!!! I'm glad that the younger generation can appreciate the older cars as well. The time with my son is priceless and this was all worth it.
  17. i'm going to look for an extra gnose hood hinges at the shop tomorrow. Then going to repair one of the gnose kits I have. I shouldn't be doing this at this time, my Z has been running every day since it's been working. If so, I want to have it installed by the next Cars and Coffee.....really wishful thinking.....nothing is easy.
  18. I hope you all had a wonderful fourth of July!!!! Another Cars & Coffee in the books for my son and I. Met another Z owner and parked next to him. There were 3 other Z's spread out as well and a silver one with RB26 engine. I didn't get to meet them since we got premo-parking and got lots of attention. I generally don't open up my hood, but I didn't care much and that drew a crowd and I was so embarrassed since I don't usually clean my car; it sits in the garage and stays relatively clean.
  19. I filled 10 gallons this morning to dyno tune and hopefully have enough fuel to make it back home. It was close. Driving on the freeway in this hot weather with the windows rolled down and no a/c sure brought back memories. I was sweating and lucky I was wearing shorts and t-shirt. I could feel heat coming out of the shifter opening. It was very slight, but I could feel that this was part of the heat source. I'll check the boot for leaks. Trimming out a little fuel at 3000rpm neighborhood and idle made the engine smoother and not so much exhaust/fuel smell cruising the streets, it's much smoother. The ITB's sound great. No overheating or anything in light traffic. I know my turbo Z would get warm due to the intercooler etc.... have a great weekend all!!!! I'm home and kids are napping which means I can do some computer work for a few hours! Yes, I'm a workaholic!
  20. it's 97 dg.f today. not the best day for tuning nor driving. i remember i used to sweat driving the Z around back-in-the-day. this will be an experience today. Windows down and freeway home. we've trimmed out some rich spots and that will keep some of the carbon smells to a "minimum".
