  1. I'm looking for a 280ZXT manual transmission crossmember. Looks similar to the normal 280ZX transmission crossmember but I think it bumps out a little horizontally instead of just being the straight U shape.
  2. Hey all, New member, but I've been lurking while looking to buy. I've found a great 260z to potentially buy, but it's got some oddities to it and some issues. Gallery: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B0dMD16jjK-rdUpKOTdESlJuUUU&usp=drive_web First, It's body/frame/exterior is in really solid shape. Repaint in non-original blue/gray is good, originally orange. Second, Interior is great. Now the oddity: Dogleg 5 speed transmission from ??? vehicle... And the negatives: Slow leaks at the rear diff and somewhere around the engine/transmission. I really could use some feedback about: value, costs of leak repairs, how good/bad the dogleg is (fit, original install, longterm use), and general opinions. Really appreciate all feedback! Jeremy
  3. So I saw youtube video of a guy with the diesel om606 motor in it, and after a lot of searching I cannot find a clean cut manual transmission swap. I did see someone on here was trying to swap in a 300zxtt tranny to the mercedes motor, can anyone help or have some insight as to how to go about getting a manual tranny on the motor. I'm sure eventually their will be more questions about custom engine mounts and all of that, but that will be far down the road.
  4. Hello all, My name is Allen, I am in need of a transmission for my 78 280z, and I am located in NC.I would like to find a '80 280zx 5 speed, but anything (other than a 4 speed) that will fit in the car and maybe have a bit better gearing would be lovely. Any help would be appreciated! Allen G.
  5. looking for drive shaft for 5speed T5 transmission.
  6. Hello, I own a 76 280z which is all bone stock, and the clutch is starting to really slip, almost undriveable, and a friend of mine offered me, his used clutch which is almost new, the reason being hes going to be making about 600-700 hp on his ls1 swapped 300z. But he offered me to have his old clutch because he just ordered a new racing clutch for his car, which was about 1700-2000$ and I was just wondering if a RB25 clutch would fit with the L28 transmission?? Thanks in advance.
  7. Car: 1974 260Z (Early(11/73)) Engine: L28 N42 Block, N42 Block, N42 Intake Transmission: 82/83 5-Speed Shifter: Early 260Z 4-Speed Shifter Known Items: Before swapping in the 5 speed the lights functioned properly. The original switch has been tested and replaced with a new item, as a measure of troubleshooting, and both function as designed. The transmission is a fresh rebuild from a reputable Z shop here in Atlanta. The owner of the Z shop has/had the same problem with a similar setup on a early 260Z The wiring on the car has not changed nor been molested in anyway during the swap. No matter what gear the car is in the reverse lights stay on. I still have the original Male/Female connectors on the harness and they match what is on the car and switch. I currently have the switch disconnected for reasons stated above; but I would very much like to be able to see when reversing at night. Unknown: What next to try? Thank you, Pete
  8. I'm looking for a good condition R180 to replace my worn out , clunking one on my 240z. Anybody have a spare one?
  9. WTB- Known good 5 speed trans form 280ZX to swap into my 75 S30. Couple of requirements: 1. Prefer it be located in the Midwest to ease the shipping cost or driving distance for pick up. 2. Seller willing to put it on a skid and secure it for shipping (if necessary). 3. I will arrange pick up by common carrier. 4. Must be available during the day for truck pick up. 5. Accept PayPal for payment. Thanks.
  10. I was hoping to get help from some knowledgeable forum members I'm currently restoring my 78 z I did a L28et swap with a T5 Transmission I've been looking for a T5 driveshaft to shorten it to fit my Z I recently found one for sale but the picture he has of the driveshaft looks tinner from what I've seen from other T5's. This is where I need some help recognizing the driveshaft from the one i want to buy and from the one I've seen classified as a T5 driveshaft. Thanks guys in advance. The driveshaft I want to buy. The T5 driveshaft I've seen for sale. Notice the difference one looks thicker.
  11. im putting a l28et in my 280z and i was wondering if i can reuse my 5sp transmission off the l28?
  12. I have a 83 280zx turbo with the Borg Warner T5. Ive considered the routes of putting in a wc t5 (too much customization), going the nissan 5 speed route (rather not), and just going to the junkyard and getting a t5 out of another 280zx (i feel safer knowing i have a freshly rebuilt one). Story: My 3-4 syncro assembly is bad. When driving home it got harder and harder to shift into 3rd and any gear for that matter. I got home driving in 1st down my street. Then when i stopped the car and put it into neutral, all i heard was a clicking clacking sound as the car was sitting in neutral. I stepped on the clutch and the sound disappeared. It would come back as i eased off the clutch then finally it somehow slapped into gear(the noise also stopped) though the shifter was in neutral and i quickly pressed back down on the clutch. I eased off the clutch again to learn the car was in gear and i couldn't get it out. I took apart the transmission to find that the part that is supposed to slide around over the 3/4 syncro was hard to budge. after some very manly hours i was able to push it loose. I lifted the keys and saw some metal shavings inside and it was really difficult to press in the keys and slide the part around. now that the transmission itself was in neutral i rotated the shafts to see if the transmission was in neutral and it was until it would randomly grab into gear and let go. I checked the gears rotation ratios and determined it to be 3/4. Symptoms: Noise from Transmission Car hard to shift Transmission suddenly goes into a gear Cant get car out of gear Shifter still in neutral Theory This appears to me that the noise was possibly the keys having trouble going into gear. The car got into 3rd and was hard to shift out because the syncros are bad. It randomly went into gear as performed when turning the shafts in neutral. Shifter was in neutral meaning the forks held the parts in the neutral position but the gears were still in 3rd which could be explained by the spin test aswell since the gears were in that position and it would randomly grab into gear. Solution And Question: Will this rebuild kit work for our (nissan) T5? i posted a question to the seller as well but it says he is away till august..... The brand for the item is Tremec and as most of you would know is the company that took over the T5 from Borg Warner. This kit goes for pretty cheap compared to my googling of syncro assemblies. Any suggestions are welcomed except those saying "just go with nissan 5speed, or get a mustang t5 or any of that" Suggestions should be on the line of "you should buy from here it's cheaper and better" or "i dont think that is your problem, your problem actually is....". I havent seen many topics on rebuild kits (i seen a few but they target one seller that sells a rebuild kit for $250... which is pretty hefty. http://www.ebay.com/itm/T5-NON-WORLD-Class-Master-Rebuild-Kit-GM-Ford-Jeep-AMC-/350712906441#vi-content
  13. I'm in the market for a 5 speed transmission from a 77-78 280z for my 240z. I am in the Sacramento Area but I'd be willing to travel a bit for the Transmission.
  14. Hello I'm pretty new to the forums, having a couple problems with my Z I just purchased a couple weeks back. the first problem seems to be transmission or clutch related- 5 speed it makes a weird noise like two metal plates scratching together intermittently in 1st through 3rd gear at low speeds it also makes a weird metallic noise sometimes when switching gears from the shifter. I'm thinking that it is possible it may be low transmission oil/fluid or something similar anybody have any ideas what this could be? the second problem just started within the last two days and maybe fuel related or related to the first problem where the gear may be slipping when accelerating the throttle response is acting strangely don't know how to explain it exactly except that it's basically not there unless you get on it. doesn't look like I'm leaking fuel anywhere, but I did start getting a strong fuel/exhaust smell today my eyes even starting watering on the way home from work today. the previous owner told me the car had an exhaust leak in between the downpipe and the catalytic converter could this be the problem? any help would be appreciated greatly thanks
  15. I have been searching for an rb25 rwd tranny locally (in canada) to use in my rb26 240z swap and have found nothing but rediculiously high prices, one guy quoted me $1800 for just tranny lol. There are currently a few trannys on ebay for about $700 + probably $200 shipping that i could buy but its also a bit high. There is a local guy out here that Iv been talking to that says he could take my awd tranny and cut off the transfer case and weld it up to make it a rwd only application for $250. I did a bit of research and it seems like its been done before and works. Would like to ask you guys if once the transfer case is cut off are there any major differences in this tranny and the rb25 one, specificly in size, weight and length? I bought a complete car to get the engine from and Iv test drove it many times down the back alley lol, and the tranny shifts properly so atleast i know everything is already working. Are there any reasons why i shouldn't go this route that i havnt thought of?
  16. It seems my transmission has got major problems. I'm interested in finding a recently rebuilt or relatively low mile 5 speed. Thanks
