  1. Looking for a proven setup for the LS3 in a Z31, may not be proven for a Z31 but proven to deliver power with a muffled side exhaust. Out under the left door so obviously available length will be a lot less than usual, I'm thinking 4" or equivalent oval outlet with an effective muffler or two in there somewhere. Don't have much of a clue about exhausts, emudecate me.
  2. exhaust temps

Currently redoing my l28et intake and exhaust manifolds. Does anyone know how hot the exhaust manifold and turbo get on a completely stock setup? Im going to be painting the intake with 550 degree paint, is this high enough? Was planning on painting the exhaust with 1400 degree paint and possibly wrapping. is this a concern? Will the manifold with wrap get above 1400 degrees. also any thoughts on a turbo blanket causing extra wear on the stock turbo? Really dont want to send the manifold out to get professionally coated, cant afford to. Has anyone made a custom heat shield to go between the exhaust and intake?
  3. SOLD! Hey there! For a faster response, PM me! For Sale: Used MSA 3-2 Header, Square Ports, No Smog Fittings for 70-76 240z-260z-280z, comes with 2.5" piping, and rubber mounting brackets already welded on and drilled, connected to a 2.5" Magnaflow muffler. Location: Southern CA, San Diego area. Local pickup only, sorry. Price: $150 Reason for selling: I purchased the system to use temporarily until my current headers were finished and installed, no longer need them now. I purchased the MSA 3-2 header from Motorsport!, installed it back in April of 2016, and took them off on the 7th of Sept. I put around 500 miles through them, you'll see in the pictures there is a small amount of rust but nothing serious (you'll have to clean them and get them powder coated). The welding was done by Richards Performance Muffler in Oceanside, CA. If you've never heard a Magnaflow exhaust, they're amazingly nice. Sounds like a V8/old race car. Link to MSA add: here If you have any questions please let me know. I switched from the Magnaflow to JDM twin pipes and let me tell you, the twin pipes do not compare! Reason for edit: SOLD

  5. Our apprentice at the shop rescued a brand new Stebro muffler from the metal scrap pile when our parts department was doing some spring cleaning. So after cutting, grinding and welding I installed it on my 78 280 stock engine with 2" exhaust. the vid is after 1 hour of driving. There is no drone, and is weirdly quiet when driving under full throttle from the interior. So I made a vid of it revving, and was surprised at the exhaust note which was a nice deep exterior sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7C3P_OABnx4
  6. Listen to that turbo winding down https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BPuBpE4pH4 The current revision of my Datsun 240z exhaust I built, is full 3" turbo back from the stock l28 garret t3 turbo, custom made turbo flange adaptor from 2.5" to 3" downpipe with v-band, mandrel bends and magnaflow round muffler as a resonator to quiet the rasp and drone. quiet enough for SCCA sound meter. Stays under 90 decibles.
  7. Turbo ID

Hi everyone, new to the forum and new to turbocharging, very new. I would like some help if someone can offer up in identifying a Grrett turbocharger for me. Here is the turbo info: Garrett Honeywell KTT2 M33 INTAKE: A/R .72 EXHAUST: A/R 1.22 GAG P/N: 710223-0001 S/N: KD 00143 K And my measurements: MEASUREMENTS: Intake Side: 90mm / 61mm Exhaust Side: 81mm / 68mm
  8. I am currently rebuilding/restoring a 1976 280z. I am located near Youngstown Ohio and would prefer large items to be within driving distance. Send me a message and we can discuss anything you may have. Items I'm looking for as follows: ZG flares Z432 rear spoiler or BRE Ground control coil-overs (280z) Camber Plates Toyota Front brakes vented or non-vented setups Rear Disc Conversion MSA 6-2 Headers (coated) MSA Twice pipes Fender Mirrors Rota RB stagger package wheels (black or gunmetal) Triple Carb setup (complete) Ignition Box Universal Fuse box and or Wiring Harness 5-Speed Transmission 280Z or ZX R200 LSD Flat top pistons (new not used) Cam (new not used)
  9. This is one of the most classic Z exhausts there are, great sound and flow, but not overly raspy, check it out here: http://www.whiteheadperformance.com/products/fujitsubo-legalis-r-exhaust-system-datsun-240z-260z-280z-s30/ Two pieces, will fit 240z, 260z, 280z, two parts, resonator section and muffler section, with gaskets. Brand-new, never installed, still in original box with Japanese manuals (complete with silly little cartoons). I got this exhaust because I saw it on a 432R and thought it was the coolest thing ever I was going to use it on my NA build, but my plans changed and I am going turbo, so my 3-2 header, and thus, this exhaust is now of no use to me Looking to get $880 + actual shipping (as it is oversized, shipping might vary based on where you are) pickup in the Reno area would be free. Also looking to trade for Arizona Z Car 240z brakes, turbo headers (a guy can dream right?) or maybe even stroker parts. Who's interested?
  10. Clean P79 Exhaust Manifold

I am in need of a clean 280zx exhaust manifold for the P79 head. A stud broke and I have clamped down that side just to be able to drive it short distances but it may have a small leak causing excessive noise that makes it hard to listen for any unwanted sounds during my engine break-in period. Needs to be leak free and broken stud free. I am open to headers if you can cut a good deal on them as long as they relatively new, come with adapter, and are from MSA's newer batches of headers, since I know a few Z guys in my area who bought them when they first came out and found them to be less than satisfactory (apparently MSA did some work and updated their product). I will pay shipping as well on any purchases.
  11. So I just finished up swapping an 81 l28et into my 76 280z. Runs and drives but far from a smooth running car due to only having a downpipe haha. Using the n42 intake seemed like a good idea at first but I really didnt study up enough on it. Problem number one: the turbo blocks where the crankcase vent goes into the manifold. My solution to this problem was to just run it back into the J pipe, figured this was pretty much the same thing as before just without the little check valve and now it is behind the throttle. Problem number two: What to do with the other line I had running from the T connector, that was connected to the vent on the valve cover and airflow regulator, back to the j pipe. I ended up capping it off and didnt really see any change in performance. I guess my question here is how important is the airflow through everything? Does the air regulator actually need to be connected before and after the throttle? I think this will be much easier to diagnose after I get an exhaust on the car, but for now its just running poorly.
  12. New Exhaust

    From the album 73 240z

  15. MSA l28ET Downpipe S30

I am looking for a used aftermarket down pipe for a l28et specifically for an S30 by MSA.
  16. Rb26 dump pipe fitment

I was thinking of buying some ebay dump pipes for my 240z rb26 project, was wondering if anyone is or has attempted running these on their cars? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nissan-Skyline-R32-R33-R34-GTR-RB26DETT-Turbo-Dump-Pipes-Turbo-Outlet-Elbow-/230925199262?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item35c436e79e Its hard to tell from the pictures if these are going to take up much more space than the oem dumps, there is not a lot of extra room between the dumps and the steering shaft as is. The ebay post says that they are for rhd cars only but I don't think that means a lot to hybrid z members lol. Any opinions would be appreciated. -kevin
  17. Hello hybrid z I have a question regarding the triple weber carb kit that is for L series engines. Well i am planning on getting the carb kit but i'm not sure which one to get. Here is a video of my car specs on the engine are in the description. Not sure what cam but here is what i think it is Grind: 17036. Lift(In/Ex): .495/.495. Duration(In/Ex): 290/290 any thoughts on this.
  18. complete 240z/260z/280z exhaust

Complete bolt on exhaust for a 240z, 260z, or 280z. It has NO catalytic converter and is about 2.25" piping. I was running it on my 240z with an l28 and it gave an aggressive but not obnoxious or loud note. It fits fine and is only suffering from surface rust. Asking for $125 and local pickup in SF/ Bay Area.
  19. I apologize if there are millions of posts about exhaust, but if I could get some real quick opinions that would be great. I am running a built L28ET in my 78 280z and it currently has a straight 3" pipe all the way out. It has become or I have become to old for the noise level. I am looking for opinions on free flow mufflers and if I should get a resonator also. I just want to quiet her down a bit, but I do not want her to sound like a little biotch...Any help would be appreciated. I am looking at the Borla XR-1, but again I would like to know if a resonator is a good idea, especially with the turbo, even though all these components are suppose to be free flow. Attached eye candy too. Thanks, John
  20. your opinions on my exhaust

I have a cherrybomb under the driver floorpan and a garbage (like, junk) truck tip on my car right now. I'm about to cut that tip off and put in a Borla xr-1. Wondering if anyone thinks the cherrybomb will adversely affect the sound of the Borla (just sound, I drive it too little and too softly to care that much about performance aspect). I figure there's someone on here, or multiple people, who have the experience to know what I'm about to do and can tell me if I'm going to love it or if I'm gonna dislike it until I decide to replace the rest of the exhaust.
  21. Twin stack tips

I can't reply to my last thread... Anybody know where to get these? I called ANSA this morning, they're in Raleigh maybe an hr from me, and the guy had no clue what I was describing. I thought it would be a fairly popular item, they must sell a whole hell of a lot of everything else. Sent him an email with pic, and he forwarded me to "the guy that came over from ANSA. God, he's been here forever." I'm afraid it's going to cost $535,207,111 You can find the horizontals much easier. They were even listed on the ANSA website, but when I gave the part number, the guy said it didn't exist. This experience has made me feel old... So they're gonna get back with me, soon as they rouse the old timer awake and pump him full of gin, so's he see if he can understand what this crazy guy on the phone was talking about, 'single inlet, dual chrome outlet, resonated exhaust tips'. Pffft. Whoever's heard of such a thing. fun
