emeraldlion Posted May 21, 2012 Share Posted May 21, 2012 The full size quik-latch is to rich for my blood, but the mini's are affordable. The site says they fail at 150ft/lb. If you had one on each side of the hood, and had the stock moutns up front you think these would work? I ditched the stock latch and would like to run these as pins near the cowl. I would imagine that combined 300ft/lb holding would be plenty if use with the stock mounts up front. I have a stock hood so it is a little heavier. I'm curious as to what the answer to your question will be, I'd like the same idea except with a fiberglass hood and the full sized low profile latches. z240 Posted May 21, 2012 Share Posted May 21, 2012 (edited) I'm sure they are stong enough. They are referring to 150 lbs pull force (lbs) not torque (ft-lbs) They do seem like a well made item. About the only down side is security. Anyone can open the hood now. Who remembers the press and turn hood latches just like their twist lock style on the 70 mustangs? Whats old is new again... LoneStarS30Z Posted May 22, 2012 Share Posted May 22, 2012 I had aerocatches before, don't know if it's happened to any else but mine turned "white" and "ashy" after a while, like it was fading. I still think the minis are a cleaner look, just have to figure out security options though my car only goes from garage to work and anywhere in between doesn't stay out of my sight for more than a couple of minutes. Where do you have them mounted? from what I've seen on here a lot of people have 4 latches, 2 near the firewall and 2 right around where the strut towers are. I'm considering using them instead of pins for installation subtlety more than aerodynamic reasons, but would nonetheless like to keep from spending good money on a product that does NOT perform as is intended. duragg Posted September 30, 2014 Share Posted September 30, 2014 I never did. And the Manufacturer even replaced them and sent heavier springs, but still there were popping open. Granted they were popping under race conditions +100mph, but still it wasn't working for me. Subsequently put large vents in the hood and restricted inlet air and they don't pop anymore. Although my car is a daily driver, I don't want the hood popping up on me during any spirited driving conditions. Maybe I'll investigate my Jeep Cherokee hood latch idea further.
