Engine Choice

Ok let me clarify after the comments below.

I have chosen to go with the L28ET engine as long as it can meet my needs for a swap. I have access to a L28ET engine with the F42 block an P90 head that has been remanufactured here locally for $2500 (all stock except a hot cam) I am looking to get somewhere between 250-300hp on this 76 280z (more towards the 300 side)

From what I have read about and searched online, the ECU in this car is insufficient when going over 200hp. I can upgrade the fuel system no problem. But the only thing I have found so far in regards to the ECU is megasquirt. Im not too keen on that, it looks hodge podge. Is there other options available? Whats realistic getting power out of this engine?

Thanks!

OK, I will attempt to help you, but I warn you that you should prepare for some flaming real soon. Please don't take this the wrong way but there has been a slew of new topics that seem like the same person keeps posting them. They all want to swap engine, want 300HP ish, family owns a shop, and somehow everyone has this magical $10k budget. Seriously, what is up with that? This is really starting to make me laugh when I see them. So, the first link I will post will be to a VERY recent post which many of us has posted other links inside of that should explain a lot if you look through them. Next, the L28ET will get you there just fine but you want to think about long term goals as well, as in are you really looking for a comfortable 300 or an uncomfortable higher HP. And finally, with a post count of 4 and asking about a topic that has been honestly beat to death, you ARE going to get some flak for. Some put on your big boy pants and take it like a man and welcome to the forum, glad to have you here and I hope this place and all of can help.

First, check this thread out, the topic is similar and the links inside should cover most all of your questions and concerns that you have.

I really can not fully advise you on what engine to go with, I only have done one swap so far and it isn't to the full ready I want it to be. But for me the option was a good one for how cheap I got the package that I put in. Others would suggest different options and if I had to do over I too would have considered more of those options. I will try though to look into these concerns you have about the ECU and this package.

...OK, before I go any further, I just noticed your name and realized the thread I posted above is YOUR other thread. I do not believe this will go over well with some of the community. If you have still have questions please continue to post in the original thread that you started. I hate to be the bad guy here but you honestly need to keep your threads clean and organized, if you can't even do that not many will help and will doubt your ability to keep your research, planning, and work on your Z organized as well.

That last link you really want to check out, he recorded the whole process through a blog. Lots of pictures and information.

What I am seeing through these threads is that 300 to 350 hp is no problem and most are running an aftermarket controller of some kind. All I did was search the Nissan 6 cylinder forum that this thread is even posted in, then went to the members projects section and searcher "L28ET" to get these links.

I have well over 100 pages saved to my favorites on my browser, probably half to three quarters of them before I even purchased my engine. I am just saying, research is your friend, going to save a ton of time and money.
