First Z, First turbo/restoration project

Recommended Posts

Hey guys my name is Joe Apostol.  I'm pretty new to the Datsun scene.  I live in Lansing, Michigan and in November of 2012 I purchased my first Datsun.  I bought a 260z that came from North Carolina and looked like it had sat in the woods for a few years.  I picked it up for $2300 with 80k miles, an l28 and 5 speed swap, rear disc brake conversion and it also  came with a new exhaust and all new suspension/bushing throughout.  I drove it for the first day I owned it and then put it in the garage and started working on it.

Updates will be every couple weeks as I work a lot and am a full time student.

So here are the pictures.  I look forward to your comments and any advice you may have.

Thanks

The day it arrived at my house.  I bought it and had it shipped to me

Looks like a great project! What are your plans in terms of powering the motor? Stock turbo EFI? Or some sort of standalone?

It's great that you already know how to weld too, as it is a nessecary evil that comes with these cars...

Whats your overall plan for the car?

Looking forward to the progress.

Actually I don't know how to weld lol.  I bought a mig welder, and i'm only 21 so one of my biggest problems is that I have to buy tools along the way.  So i'm actually learning how to weld with some friends guidance.

I am building MS2 for this project with a friends help, I also bought some rx7 550cc injectors, It came with 2 r200's, i'm not sure if the one on the car is an lsd or not so that may get welded.  My power goals for this are 400whp,  I'm going to sell my winter beater in about a month and try to get about $1300, that will go towards some Ground Control coilovers, ae86 short strut strokes, bump steer spacers, torsion rod, and a front strut bar.  I'll be getting some work cr01's probably something like 15x9 15x10.5 and some carbon fiber ZG flares to fit them.   As far as paint I haven't decided if i'm going to plasti dip it for now and save up to paint it or spend a few hundred dollars and set up my own paint booth and learn how to do that myself.
