2013 CV Shaft Conversion Options

Hey guys,

It's 2013, and most of the information on the site concerning CV conversions is no longer useful due to lack of parts. The two manufacturers of CV adapters that I'm ware of, both Modern Motorsports and M2 Differentials, are no longer in business. I was looking forward to throwing on my set of 280ZX Turbo CV shafts in the coming weeks, but it appears that 280ZX Turbo shafts may no longer be an option, unless there are other companies building adapters.

It seems to me that we now have three options for CV shafts on our S30 Z cars:

Custom CV shafts like these:

http://www.wolfcreekracing.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=72&Itemid=61

OR Custom 280ZX Turbo CV adapter such as:

OR crazy Z32 R200/R230 VLSD conversion (seems way over the top for my car):

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this issue?

I'm definitely interested in where this thread goes.  Currently I've got an R200 CLSD from a 300ZX and Q45 outers from AZC.  I cannibalized the outers from a Q45 and the inners from a 300ZX and had a custom splined shaft made at a local 4WD shop made to put the pieces together.  It's going to suck if I break something, though.

modern-motorsports.com (MMS) is still i business you need the hyphen in the name to access the website.  I'm running the R200 clsd out of a 87 300zxt with the cv axels, using MMS Z31 companion flanges with the 5 lug set-up also from MMS.  Looked @ the sites you referenced and MMS prices are a bit cheaper but Ross the owner of MMS is a bit slow on processing orders not taking orders but processing them for shipment.  Hope this gives you another option.

I'm looking for CV axle solution for my Datsun 510 sedan.  I picked up an 2004/2005 Subaru STi R-180 CLSD with 27T splines and want to use slip in CV axles.  I contacted The Drive Shaft Shop and they can make me a CV slip-in setup which will bolt to the wheel hub flange and slip into the differential.  The cost is $1400, but if I setup a group buy and sell 6 of these the price will drop 10%.

If you are under 300hp, consider johnc's subi R180 to stock u-joint axle conversion stubs-you likely won't break them.  Very easy.  If you gotta have CVs and want something off the shelf, get johnc's stubs and wolf creek CV axles ($900).  Clean, bolt in new parts-hard to beat.
