Things brake at the worst time but some times you look back after you have been pissed off and go wow I was lucky. I have put a few hundred miles on the car sense I finished up the suspension so it was time to go re torque all the bolts and re check everything. Found a few slightly loose bolts nothing to bad I also re tightened my gland nuts due to a slight CLUNK when I let off the gas. As we all know that means un hooking the brake lines and a re bleeding of the rears. Called a friend over to pump the pedal cracked the bleeder air comes out go to tighten it back down and the threads are striped out of the wheel cylinder. A few select words were said due to the fact I was planing on auto-crossing the car for the first time this Sunday. After I had cooled down I realized how lucky I was to have not got to the track this weekend with only 1 thread holding the bleeder in it could of popped out under hard breaking. So now I have a new wheel cylinder on the way and am starting to piece together a rear brake swap for after I get my S12+8's on the front  in a few weeks. I also found the cause of a exhaust on body noise turned out do be a busted rubber exhaust isolator, so I made a new one out of some Eaton syn-flex hyd hose its some really tough stuff rated up to 3000 psi and a strong braid in it so should last a good long time.

Till next time.

Well it has been a busy 3 weeks for me. I got married on June 28th and it was a killer wedding followed by a amazing honey moon in San Antonio TX. Got back on the 4th of July and ordered some parts as a birthday / wedding present to my self Toyota S12+8 calipers , SS lines for the Toyota calipers ,SS lines for the rear drums, Poterfield 4rs pads for the Toyota calipers, and also had a buddy grab me a Taurus fan for the pick and pull so I needed a fan wiring kit so I grabbed  one off eBay. Now the work starts, I made the choice to tackle the Taurus fan first for most this is a easy install. But in my case due to that  have a Johns cars v8z kit not so much the water pump was much in the way of the fan just slipping in so i trimmed .5" off the shroud still not enough. So I pulled the radiator so I could have a good look at how to get more clearance and the 280z radiator has wing that fold in over the core and add 1/4" of height so those got very carefully dremmiled off along with 1/4" more of the shroud and all overhanging bits of too. And it fit after all the cutting and trimming all it needed was some foam to seal and protect  and to make some mounting brackets and re test fit, so I bent up some mounting brackets and all worked out good. So then came the wiring I decided to go for a 195F thermo controlled low speed and a switched high speed the kit I bought off eBay needed some work and a extra relay and more wire to make it work how I wanted I used a 60 amp 5 pin for the high and a 40 amp 4 pin for low all power and ground wires 10 gauge with 16 gauge trigger wires and soldered  connections. I was able to hide the two relays in the stock relay cover under the hood and ran all the wires with the factory harness for a clean look. Filled the radiator with distilled water and water wetter and jacked up the front and burped the system and tested the new cooling setup and low and behold @ 195F  fan kicked on and with in 2 mins temp was below 180F. I could not be happier that fan moves some air sitting in my garage it never got hot! Much better than my old fans that did nothing to keep it cool. and That all I have had time to do other that paint the new calipers Brembo gold because we all know gold brake calipers make the car stop quicker, but all the parts are in and I get need some time.

Curious as to how you have your harness mounted? Is this feasible/safe for street use? I will get a harness eventually and just would like some input.

It is very safe for street use, the relays are mounted in the stock box on the right side of the bay them the wires travel down through the stock wire holders down to the frame rail and follow the harness to the front. Keep in mind that i did weather proof the relays and connectors with rubber insulation tape and shrink wrap then silicone the pin exits on the relay and then wrapped the whole thing in E tape. I am good at over kill!

Ok I have got the Toyota brakes on with SS lines along with a new wheel cylinder for the driver rear drum with new SS lines and the whole system bleed out. Oh did I say that this is my second set of calipers I got the vented type the first time and like a ding-dong bleed them out and went to put my wheels on and the calipers hit my wheels. So I bought a set of non vented and problem solved. While the car was on the stands I decided to change out the old leaky trans tail shaft seal and re check ever bolt on the suspension of my car. All was good went and test drove brakes felt better than ever. I had done a good old tune up on it also re gapped plugs messed with the timing re tuned carburetor, and it runs much stronger now I have never had it running this good brakes the tires loose so much so I half to feather it off the line a bit and when you get on it and it shifts in to second it shoves the tail out to the right about a foot or so. So I decided it was time for its first trip up on the highway in 5 or so years all was going good till my temp started creeping up. Come to find out my lower radiator hose was sucking shut so popped a spring in it and the problem looks to be fixed. I decided to throw together a little OKZCC dinner last Saturday and had a very good turn out and meet a hybridz member josh280z, really nice guy gave me a ride in his ZX it’s a very nice car in the works. Then on Tuesday night I decided to go to a 99% American muscle show at the Tulsa Fudruckers. I got a few dirty looks as I was pulling in and them some very odd ones when my Z was loping through the parking lot finding a place to park. Had quite a few people come check out the car and many more due double takes as they walked by the engine bay, Had a very nice photographer come by and love my car and too some killer shots of it and I plan on getting a full shoot done when I get some work done.

Track time this weekend first trip to the autocross and possibly the drag strip all in one day. I have a clunk coming from the back of the car I can not find and its getting louder. It makes a big clunk if I down shift due to shock on the drive line. If anyone has thoughts please let me know really want that noise gone. Still having a bit of trouble with a bog on hard acceleration timing I think. But all that aside I plan to have fun this weekend and if something in the rear end brakes I will have found my problem. And I won pic of the month for Oklahoma Z&G Facebook page.

With this shot.

Will have vids from the track to post next week and possibly some time slips wish me luck.

October is goint to be a buys month. two car shows this weekend a car show and track day next weekend them a car show the next weekend. Sounds like a good month, I have need trying to get the car to make some more power my getting the timing and carb set right with very little success. It bogs on hard low end accelerations but not all the time. I am starting to think the motor need to be pulled and rebuilt stronger with a touch more power. If any one has any ideas on the bog please voice them.

Also had a few cars shows two weeks ago and had a few good shots taken of it.

I made it out to the OKZCC autocross/ track day this weekend with the Z and had a blast! Learned alot about my car and how hard I can push it trans had some issues think it needs a rebuild. The brakes need some better pads and some cooling help. and better tires up front was running my old 215/60/15 that had been on the back of the car. I had killer tires on the back I picked up some kuhmo V710 225/50/15 used for a steal and wow grip for days. Glad I made it out sucks it was the last track day of the year but I hope be next season it will be even better. But I did get to use my new trackmaster app and that is the best $3.99 I have spent on a app got to map the track and see speeds and acceleration, braking  and time. RED=braking GREEN=acceleration, The vid is of my slowest run of the day while I got some coaching from one of are instructors took it slow to work on my lines then crushed the next session but my cam only recorded 3 secs of it. but all in all wow that was fun. Also last week I got some more goodies to make the car more safe at the track some TFWorks extended lug studs and muteki lug nuts with the correct seat for my wheels along with a new helmet.

Had a chance to get the Z dynoed yesterday at Humble Performance http://humbleperformance.com/ great guy there they were having a dyno day to help fund there trip to the national event soon, could not pass up the deal 50 bucks for 2 pulls.  So now I know what my Z really puts down to the wheels and I was not disappointing. they run a dynojet dyno and had a great turnout with some killer cars. And now I have a base line to start from.

Wow did not realize it had been so long since I post. I had a great Christmas did not get any car stuff but I did get a GoPro. And proceeded to buy all the stuff to fix the one down fall of those cool little cams the audio. Shortly after Christmas my GMC Yukon decided that is radiator needed to split the tank and I find this out as i see a huge puddle of coolant under it in the morning as i go to leave for work. But no fear I have a Z in the garage ready to run with the slicks still on it from the last track day. So I jump in it and take off with out a care in the world till I find out that we are going to have a huge thunder storm this after noon and night. So now instead if just buying a new radiator for the GMC ( that is going to take 2 weeks to came in because I have some crazy option package)  I am now buying two new tires for the Z and driving the 10 miles on slicks in the rain to get them put on. Needless to say that was a life changing experience, but now i have a very street able Z with some new Falken Ziex ZE329 215/60/15 so far very happy with them. The best part of the whole thing is that i got to spend some time driving the Z witch caused me to fix a few little things like the blower not working and some minor electric issues I had never addressed. So who knew popping a radiator could be a good thing. I have a hit list of a few things I was to do on the Z this year none of then keeping it down for more that a few days my goal this year is to drive my car and make it to all the track days I can. I have also been made a officer in the OKZCC "Oklahoma Z Car Club"  and will be handling all the events for the eastern Oklahoma area. So far 2015 is shaping up to be a great year and I hope all of my fellow Hybrid Zers have a great one too.

Here are a few pics for Dec and Jan and videos I shot with my GoPro and external mic with wind buster, so let me know what you think of my exhaust note and my bogging issue.
