New floorpans - Paint?

Clean

Recommended Posts

I just finished welding in new floorpans. Made them at work from 16ga galvanneal (being an Enginerd in a high tech facility is awesome BTW). I've read that POR-15 won't stick, unless it's all scuffed up and they're galvanneal, so if I scuff them, i'm going to remove the protection from it. I was planning on using POR-15 on the seams & welds and on the old metal.

Can anyone recommend a cheap coating to put on the new panels (inside and out)? I want to roll on a truck bed liner as well. Herculiner isn't available in Canada and I've read some poor reviews on the Dupli-colour bed liner. Any suggestions?

SEM Rust Sheild, KBS Rust Seal + KBS blacktop, POR 15, and a few others are what I have found. I'm about to clean up my underbody and have been researching what to use. I don't know much about galvanneal but if POR 15 won't work on it the others might. I'm leaning towards the KBS products myself.

I've heard good and bad things about all of these options but maybe somebody else can give some input.

Its a little outdated, bit an etching primer has always has the best results for me. Even some etch primer out of a spray can. And THEN a coat of sealer. I use etch and then epoxy. You won't have to scuff metal for etching primer to "soak" into the steel.

I did my floor pan on one side last year and welded it in and then por 15 the whole interior of my zx while it was gutted, I had very good results with the por 15 . one note though, If you get it on youre hands you better clean it off right away with acetone. If not you will be sorry, because that stuff will get into youre finger prints and stuff and it will be many days before you will be able to get it all off.
