Progress this evening (if what I did could be considered progress) includes installing a new MSA stud kit to faciltate a new intake/exhaust manifold. Unforunately I failed to undo the exhaust manifold from the collector before changing out the studs. As I made my way from the upper to lower studs I realized that the exhuast hinndered my progress considerably. The first ex. mani nut and bolt busted off and the other two nuts absolutely refused to break loose. It didn't help matters that with out the manifold being attached to anything substantial that the energy I exerted upon the nuts was mostly nullified by the wobbly old exhuast tubing holding the thing up.

Then I decided that I would simply work around the mani and finish the studs. After getting the studs all in, the manifold would not simply slide back on. Luckily my buddy Mac was working on his Toyota nearby and helped me coax the thing back into place. Next came the placement of the Clifford intake which also failed to go on as easily as I had hoped for...

Considering the nuts are just about impossible to remove, I decided to remove the entire exhaust from underneath. I was planning on replacing the header anyway and that would have happened a couple of days ago when it came in with the studs and some steel braided brake lines...if it was the right fit for my head.

Yep, I ordered the header for something other than an N42 head. The night I placed the order I looked up a table giving the head/block combinations instead of driving the 40 minute round trip to the shop and back to actually look at the head code. A lazy rookie mistake is going to set me back an estimated $80-100 tomorrow when I ship it back to MSA. (Que all the comments telling me what I could have bought with that money.)

To raise my spirits I decided to put on the new braided brake lines. Should be simple enough right? Jacked up the front and got her on stands and proceeded to fight with the 10mm holding the hose to the lines, then fought with the 17mm at the caliper. After loosening the two I began to undo the line at the caliper but could not figure out for the life of me how to undo the hose at the bracket it meets up with the metal line. Twisted and twisted the hose while undoing the 17mm until I figured out that there's a clip holding hose the bracket by the line. :-/ Yep. I'm a dumbass.

Finally got the passenger (normally the driver) side line up and made my way round to the other side. Piece of cake this time, right? I got the  tools I need, I know about the clip now....stripped the 10mm at the metal line. The 17 at the caliper came right away this time but I rounded out the nut on that 10 like it was my job.

Before someone decides to mention it, I have been using PB Blaster. This evening is just like any other time I have tried to operate on my car. Except for maybe when I replaced a headlamp or changed the oil, or gutted the interior like a mad man.
