Fiberglass (Bumper) Flex Question

I purchased a 240z style front fiberglass bumper. It get's here but the fitment is off. It seems to be about 2 inches too wide.  The manufacturer is implying that bending a little bit won't be a problem but I'm concerned that the long-term tension may cause problems with the paint or the structure itself.

 

Is it ok to bend fiberglass like this or will it cause problems?

I'll chime in on this. I ordered a MSA type 1 air dam a few weeks ago. And the overall quality was very poor, and the fotment is bad. MSA doesn't manyfacture these, but who they get them from uses the same mold. The turn assign all holes are already cut out too wide for the turn signals, the manufacture states "if you center the turn signal in the center of the opening and mark it then drill the holes. It should work without any issues" I think I should have been allowed to cut this out myself if it wasn't going to be done right. My number is short two inches as well, but the angles are too far in, I need to flex my number out. Probably end up making relief cuts ect. Again nothing against MSA, they offered a refund. But that's not the point.

Are you certain this is not for a 260z? I have a metal 240z and 260z front bumper and the 260z bumper is about an inch wider on each side.

It was billed as a 240z bumper. I'm rocking a 280z...I didn't think that would be different. They indicated it wouldn't matter.

Sounds like they already screwed up

 

It's Brian with ZCCJDM.com. I don't disagree...but as a business owner myself I feel like they should have the opportunity to make it right. He noted a possible manufacturing defect...stuff happens. Should they make it right, that should be part of the commentary.

I'm having trouble with the bumper not the airdam but good luck with it.

Just got my msa airdam in Thursday. What a POS. The gelcoat had star cracks in about half a dozen places. Chips all over it. Looks like some punk kids threw rocks at it all day long. The fitment was able to be tweaked to be good enough, but nowhere near perfect. Some spots will have to be grinded down and filled to make things line up decently. They said its fiberglass parts, that's how they are. What they should have said was that's how THEIR fiberglass parts are. They did offer me a refund as long as I paid the shipping back. I've bought fiberglass parts for other cars in the past and they were about perfect. I asked if they would put a disclaimer on their website for these saying they come rough and finishing is required.

By the way, if you have a chance buy a used one. I turned down the opportunity to buy a used one for &50. It looked way better than the new one. I guess someone else already did all the filling on it.

 What you're showing looks correct to me.   The stock bumpers I've worked with in the past weren't designed to bolt directly to the body.  There's a rubber stand-off that goes between the bumper and the body.  If MSA is making a replacement-style bumper made out of fiberglass, then what you've got looks correct.

My bumper is off, PM me measurement across from end to end and I'll compare with my OEM piece.

Hmmm...that's interesting. This is a 280z conversion to 240z bumpers so I didn't have the reference. What's interesting is that I've seen quite a few z's with the fitment that appears to attach directly to the body. Still a little bit of space but by no means what I have. Any ideas on how they're doing that? Hacking up the option I have, perhaps?
