Core plug?

To all, I have a basket case 1970 240Z I purchased and I've never worked on a Z before. Since I didn't take the car apart and now I'm putting it back together with no prior Z experience I'm stumped in some areas. One of which is what to make of what looks to be a core plug left open on the left side of the block. Now the block is a 2.8 and it looks to be the furthest core plug forward on the drivers side of the vehicle in the photo attached (generic search photo). When I google it, a lot of the long blocks show them missing and I'm not sure why. It was the only hole in the block left open, and because of this I am curious if I should throw a plug in there or if it serves another purpose? Please let me know what you think. Thanks, Stewpost-47579-0-59249300-1416808016_thumb.jpg

Thanks for the quick reply. Does anyone sell the tube in the aftermarket? Can't track mine down and want to know what my options are.

Here's one from a ZX - it appears to be a bit bigger than the earlier ones.  If you watch ebay it probably won't take long for an earlier one to show up.
