Custom EFI wiring harnesses and pre-configured Mega Squirt systems

Ever wanted to run Mega Squirt or some other stand alone engine managament system but there was no way you wanted to mess with the wiring or figuring out what you needed to run for hardware? Mega Squirt is a powerful system and extremely flexible but that can be a problem for a lot of people - where do I start! In practice it's usually pretty simple but the learning curve is a little daunting. We can build, test, reconfigure, upgrade and/or load a base tune into your Mega Squirt ECU. With most builds we can test the entire system or the major portions in our test bed vehicles. That helps to eliminate as many of the common road blocks as possible to making our product turn key for your application.

We've had an initial run of custom harnesses for Mega Squirt, SDS and Electromotive systems and the response has been very positive. We're offering this now as a group buy for HybridZ members at a reduced rate from our regular price. A typical basic custom harness would be priced at $700 but our HybridZ Group Buy is priced at $600.

I've designed and built several Mega Squirt harnesses for various Datsun projects. I'm an Electronics Engineering Technologist so I've designed these harnesses for optimal noise immunity with high grade wiring to provide you with a highly reliable backbone for your Mega Squirt EFI system. Electronic noise can cause all sorts of gremlins in your system. To eliminate these issues all harnesses are configured with a robust grounding system as well as shielded cabling for all sensors. The wiring is heat and chemical resistant to provide you with years of trouble free use. EV1 connectors for the injectors use the quick disconnect plugs for ease of installation and removal – no more fighting with wire clips.

The basic harness is designed to plug into the stock sensors and injectors found on a stock L28ET engine. This includes the injectors, 82-83 dizzy with optical encoder wheel (allows the use of stock or custom encoder wheels), TPS (after market – stock is a throttle position switch – MS requires a throttle position sensor which is a potentiometer rather than a switch), CHTS, Knock sensor (wired to main connector but not hooked up – MS requires extra hardware for the knock sensor), ignition coil, IAT (after market – stock IAT is built into the AFM but should be removed due to air restriction – MS uses a MAP sensor so the AFM is not required) and WBO2 sensor and power. Connectors for the IAT, TPS and WBO2 will vary from installation to installation so the buyer can provide their own connectors for installation during the build of the harness or install them on the prepped associated cabling. Spares can be run for extra power, etc as requested.

You can add a relay/fuse block assembly to the basic harness. One will provide power for an ignition enabled fuse panel which will provide fused power for the MS ECU, injectors, ignition coil, WBO2 and fuel pump as well as spares for additional power nearby the ECU. The second relay provides ECU control and powers the fuel pump. This can be configured to plug directly into the stock body wiring harness on the 280ZX and control the stock fuel pump using the stock fuel pump wiring if requested. This eliminates the optional diyautotune relay and relay harness and gives you addtional fuses for your WBO2 and igntion coil as well as a spare. The diyautotune assembled relay board and relay board harness is $179. Custom assembly is $150.

Optional custom cabling such as COP/CNP distributorless wiring is also available. Typically the connectors will be installed with filter caps in close proximity to the COP/CNP connector to eliminate back EMF from the coil discharge and integrated into the harness. Custom lengths and spacing for connectors can be built to the buyer’s specification.

Basic harness is $550. Basic customization is also included in this price. Additional cost for extra sub harnesses such as the COP/CNP is typically about $300. I can also build and test your MS 2/3/3x ECU and load a base tune. This will allow the buyer to plug in the harness and ECU and get the car up and running (provided the car is mechanically functioning correctly) with minimal fuss. A proper dyno tune is highly recommended for optimal performance.

Our number one priority is to provide you with a high quality product based on your needs. We will design your system based on your specific application so we often have several discussions with our customers to iron everything out. We're happy to answer your questions about building a system wether you're purchasing from us or not so feel free to ask and we'll do our best to help you out.

We can figure most things out.  Dual ECU is often used to keep a portion of the functionality of existing systems.  We are currently working on an Skyline R32 GTR and the ATTESSA (AWD system) requires information from the ECU but we are working on eliminating it and having the stand alone ECU send the ATTESSA the information it requires.  Send me a PM and we'll sort out the details :)

High quality doesn't even begin to describe this man's work. Through a series of text conversations, a totally custom harness was designed and built for my project. Unbelievable patience, customer service, and the quality... I've yet to see anything comparable. Masterful work.

Without question, one of the best investments I've made to the car to date. (7 year project)

I received my wiring harness and fuse/relay block from Fric Frac. Let me tell you, you get way more than what you paid for. Not only is the price of the wiring harness much less than other competitors. The quality and engineering behind it is just as good if not, better. The wires, shielding, connectors and all hardware used in this product is Top Notch.. It's just about as PNP as you can get as well, every wire is clearly marked and labeled. There is some wiring needed, but very simple to do. I also had the latest base tune loaded on my MSII so that way I can start up the motor and begin my tuning. Anyone looking for a custom built wiring harness for their Z??? Look no further..

Thanks Fric Frac

Yes we are at www.mackaypowerproducts.com if you want to see some of our builds. Just finished off an LS1 swapped S14 240SX which we will hopefully be posting some pictures/videos of soon as well as Dean's VH45DE swapped 240Z.

I received my MacKay Power Products harness and my MS ecu witch I has sent to Fric. He tested my ecu with the new harness and installed a program.I spent less then a day installing it. My car started up first try and after a knowledge friend cacalabrated a few censors we out on the road. I'm very happy with how his harness went together and his great service. The workmanship and quality of materials is exceptional. His service is a great value.

Hi guys,

Pretty new on the forum, but I want to make it a point to +1 everyone else's comments here. Just want to say that Kurk and Mackay Power Products well and beyond to do an outstanding job for everyone. I picked up a 72 240z with an L28ET engine and T5 transmission swap from an individual who was putting it together for his son. The car came with the standalone engine harness and computer, as ordered by the previous owner from Mackay Power Products, but the harness was not installed. It absolutely AMAZES me how Kurk has provided top notch support and assistance to my installation of his harness, despite the fact that I was not even the original buyer. I just happened to inherit his harness along with the car I picked up. The fact that I'm not even the one who purchased his product yet he has chosen to provide me his assistance really shows that he stands behind his work. In essence, he never had to reply to my emails since I could never even return his harness back to him.

I've done a few engine swaps which required standalone harnesses and the big companies always take forever to reply, if they even reply at all. The support is always a 1-800 number or a generic email address that just turns you into a ticket rather than being considered as a person who can use the pros' help. Not with Kurk. If you want the outstanding product matched with the over-outstanding customer service, he's your guy.

How long does it take for you to develop the harness? I am not quite at that point yet, but when I get close to it I need something that simple but high quality and from reading the thread that seems to be you guys. I am going to be putting in an LS6/T56 combo. Would love to chat specifics with you and figure out the best point in time to get this ball rolling.

Just wanted to say how happy I have been with the harness I received from Kurk. He has been a huge help and always happy to give someone business this side of the border. He tested and repaired my MS3 unit, installed the MS3X daughter board for me, and had the main chip replaced under warranty with DIYautotune on realising that mine was hooped.

The harness (along with many other cleaning up of the body harness) and using the fuse/relay block that Kurk supplied has saved me a number of headaches. I must stress that I have NEVER dealt with a vendor more willing to talk one through over multiple emails and long phone calls shooting the breeze about Datsuns on install and the best way to approach problems encountered during the course of that. It really is a credit to his personality and patience.

I would highly, highly recommend this group buy.

A video of the car running with LS1 truck coils, Kurks harness, 440cc Supra injectors and my very angry built (lots of Tomei, BHJ, Slover, Greddy and other juicy bits in there) L28 (I went with the 280ZXT turbo dizzy setup) can be seen at the link below.

Have you looked through the DIY site? - https://www.diyautotune.com/support/tech/install/

Or the Hybridz threads - http://forums.hybridz.org/forum/93-megasquirt/

If you don't even know how to get power to the harness, you have a very long path ahead of you.  You should start your own thread so people can add to it.  This is Fric Frac's sale thread.

Click "Start New Topic" in the link below and tell people what you're trying to do, describing the car and engine and other details.
