frodriguezvsi Posted February 1, 2015 Share Posted February 1, 2015 can you run the output tach of the MSD 6btm or Crane Hi-6 box to the input tach of the megasquirt 2 to let your MSD or Crane control the spark and let megasquirt just control the EFI. I just want to first switch the fuel portion until I get more knowledge and experience tunning.How do you switch to fuel only? Which is the correct method? Wiring the MSD 6A Module*** With a MSD modules, the ignition module wires you need to know about are: tach signal is a yellow wire (do not use this to feed to pin #24 on MegaSquirt® EFI Controller, it is for a tachometer only), advance control signal is a white wire, ground is a heavy black wire, power is a heavy red wire, switched 12 volts is a thin red wire, the coil positive (+) wire is orange, the coil negative (-) wire is thin black, the unused VR signal wires are green and violet. The 6BTM outputs a 12 volt square wave (open MSD6 BTM instructions below), designed to run tachometers or other "RPM-activated devices". Make sure that Pin 24 is okay to use a 12 volt square wave and you're probably fine. There are many ways to get the same thing done. The guy who wrote the instructions above was using an HEI module so didn't need the tach output from the MSD unit. He probably could have used it though and been fine. He "over-commented" when he said that the yellow wire was "tachometer only". Megasquirt is not plug and play. Some electronics odds and ends knowledge is required.
