Looks like my guess at them being some sort of interior fastener was wrong (hence why I put the thread here). ...and I suppose that would make sense as I also have fiberglass covers for the headlamp scoops in the box of parts that came with the car (a large box with all kinds of random bits and pieces)... not sure if I'm going to use them though.
