I recently installed a Sabelt GT-140 (Medium) FIA fiberglass race seat in my 240z.  I selected this seat because it was narrow enough to fit in the space available (restricted even more than stock by the side door bar on the roll cage) and tall enough for the shoulder harness to mount properly.  It fit with a little room to spare but is very narrow (seat is 13.5" wide).  So, don't try this unless your hips are really this narrow.  I have to push myself in to fit, but it is secure and comfortable for vintage racing and reasonably comfortable for casual street driving.

See attached photos for installation and clearance.  Stock mounting points were removed, and seat was mounted to lateral 1"x2" braces for strength.  Note that the cam-lock harness shown would not work due to position of belt adjusters.  A G-Force latch and link style harness works fine.

Hope this info is helpful to others considering installing a fixed, race seat.
