turbogrill Posted November 28, 2016 Share Posted November 28, 2016 Hi, I am doing MS for my 1980 280zx NA, I am planning to do timing just for the fun off it. Wouldn't it be possible to put a teeth trigger wheel where the fan is? And then put the hall sensor where the power steering idle pulley is (or whatever that is)? I don't have the power steering connected but there is still some bracket there. This would be much easier than the turbo dizzy or to try and fit something at the crank. I guess a downside is that if the belt snaps the engine will stop working. And also if the belt slips. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
LanceVance Posted November 28, 2016 Share Posted November 28, 2016 No. Fan pulley is not the same size as the crank pulley, therefore it's rotation will not be 1:1 for drivetrain rotation. jacky4566 Posted November 28, 2016 Share Posted November 28, 2016 (edited) IMO a 36-1 trigger is the cheapest way. 36-1 wheel ($30) Hall sensor ($43) M16-1.5 x 55mm DIN 961 Class 10.9 Yellow Zinc Finish Hex Cap Screw Smaller M6 or whatever to stop any rotation.
