Tech Article Questions

Recommended Posts

First to Mike and the 300ZX rotor conversion.

I know I will need the spacer between the hub

and the rotor. Are these normal wheel spacers? Exactly how do they need to be machined?

Next, Pete, regarding the rear discs.

I ordered the 82-83 calipers and have the

82-83 rotors. Your article mentions Early

calipers with late rotors. Can I still do this using the parts I have? I have the

83 Maxima disc brake bracket as well.

Anyone know anyone who has used the RX-7

all aluminum calipers with the 300ZX rotor?

Thanks,

Owen

Owen, I believe the Maxima brackets, 82-83 rotors, and 82-83 calipers will all bolt to the 240Z-280Z series and work. I don't know about how the brake cable attaches, but I seem to remember it wasn't a huge problem.

The swap I have on my site and on the tech articles page on this site is somewhat outdated by the parts you have. Some feel the extra weight and smaller pad size of the early 280ZX rear discs were not as good as the later parts you have.

The wheel spacers I have used are solid billet units that you just drill holes in for the mounting points on the back of the hub. Remember, the spacer is sandwhiched netween the rotor and hub.

Pete is right about the early ZX vs. later ZX rear brake pads...I have the early units and the car stops well, but more pad is always better.
