Wilwood Rear Handbrake (e-Brake) kits

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have recently developed a new bracket which enables the use of the commonly uses wilwood calipers & Rotors for the rear of the S30 Z's, but it also encorportates a pair of Wilwood Mechanical spot calipers which enables the Handbrake (or e-brake as you guys call them !) to be used as its supposed to be.

The kits comprise of 2 Caliper Brackets, 2 Handbrake Cable Brackets, and a new Handbrake Cable. The Wilwood Mechanical Spot calipers need to be purchased by you.

I initially developed this kit for myself, but after posting a thread on our local Aussie website, there has been quite some interest from others who would like a properly functioning Handbrake.

If you are interested, please let me know, as I will be producing these kits on a group buy basis. For all you American etc buyers, remember the Dollar is very favourable for you at the moment. I dont have a final kit price at this stage, but It will be around the $450 Aussie Dollar mark I expect (depending on quantities and quotes from suppliers - all to be verified).

I will be doing my first run after New Year.

Here are a couple of links to the photos on the AusZCar website, and also the main thread.

Im happy to answer questions from anyone !!!

I could definitely go for a set of those!!! I was beginning to wonder if someone was going to market that or if I was going to have to have one made at the local machine shop. Been planning that same idea for a few months now. I may possibly use the European 4 pot calipers with the parking function built in, but from what I understand the seperate spot caliper may actually be more reliable.

I have a 76 280Z that has bee shoed with Wilwoods for approx. the last 5 years. I have been looking long and hard for what you have just produced (or producing). Please add my name to the list for your product. Let me know when and where to send payment. This is very neat for me.

Thanking you in advance

Zbuff:)

I find it impossible to be anything but impressed with this. There is great value just in the engineering solution (mounts. cables, clevis pins, etc) let alone the product. This will eliminated one of those 'lying awake at night' or 'day-dreaming at work' problems associated with my project.

It will help me keep the brute performance and appearance of the Wilwoods and at the same time satisfy the practicality and road registration requirement of a handbrake.

UPDATE

Hey All......

All my quotes have come in, but the quote on the new cable was a lot more than I was hoping (basically the supplier said that there was no discount for a large order).

So...I have done some more searching for suppliers, and found a mob that specialise in cables only. My Logic says that they 'should' be cheaper as thats their specialty. Anyway, after a quick conversation with the guy, and after he had a look at my drawing, hes quoted me a price that is much more acceptable. I am awaiting for him to send me the parts required to make up the first cable so I can verify that it will be compatible with the other kit components. Its put me back a week or two - Sorry !...End result though will hopefully be a better quality cable and a lower kit price.

Other quotes have come in at pretty much what I was expecting, so assuming that the cable is all good, then Im happy to say that I will be able to offer the kit for $475 (Aussie) Plus Postage. PLEASE NOTE : This price is subject to the cable being of acceptable quality and fitment.

If you have any questions or queries, please email me at wgilbert@iinet.net.au.

Yeah Guys.....pretty much got prices sorted, but just waiting on a sample cable (in bits !) to arrive from the new supplier so that I can confirm it will fit the brackets etc.

If thats all OK, then I will be saying 'orders please....send money here'.......then manufacturing will take 2-3 weeks Id say, then postage time. So, all up you guys in the northern hemisphere should have your kits in approximately 6 weeks.

I apologise for the lengthy delays, but it not easy trying to get things done when you are holding down a day job as well ! haha (not for much longer though it seems :-( )

Ill be contacting you all individually soon, but keep an eye on the thread...

PS....had a couple of questions asking 'whats the difference between US$475 and AU$475. Just to clarify for those of you who are unaware of the exhange rate, the current price make the kit approximately US$305. This changes daily of course based on the exchange rate.

May I suggest you look into collecting several USA orders and sending them all to one recipient who can then reship them to the others? Overseas shipping is costly and this might save everyone some cash. I could be wrong... probably depends on weight of each kit.

Good point ZZZeee. Shipping from USA is extremely costly, but its not too bad from here in Oz, and remember you also benefit from the exchange rate too. Anyway, Time will tell when I get a price on postage.

Cheers for your input

Update.....

Got the first batch of plates laser cut....See attached picture. First 10 sets are at the machinist - the other 10 sets (in pic) are at my place.....

STILL awaiting the handbrake prototype (from new supplier) to arrive, hopefully tomorrow.

So, all being good, first 10 sets should be ready in about 2 weeks.

Thanks all for your patience...it may seem simple, but co-ordinating things whilst holding down a job aint easy !
