  1. Looks like I am back on the hunt for a motor to use either as a mockup or for a fresh rebuild. This project will not die, just might take a little longer than expected. On the bright side, my GTO should be heading off to the body shop for paint sometime in the next few weeks. Once we finish that up I will have a lot more free time/money to invest into this project. Looking forward to starting a build thread once I finally source a motor for it. There are ones on ebay but im not sure I trust a motor with questionable mileage given their propensity to spin bearings when the vanos pumps suddenly die.
  2. I have shot two cars with the duplicolor paint shop line, one (my s13) in jet black, and the other (eg33 swap GC8) in white with the metallic flake and a couple coats of clear over it all. The paint sprays quite easy, but being that it is prethinned it is definitely not a bargain. I will not be shooting anymore cars with it since it is really not worth the money. The subaru cost me a small fortune to paint, I should have just gone with a basic PPG or dupont.
  3. Caperix, sent you a PM. I still want the motor if you guys haven't sent it back yet.
  4. Actually just send me an email and lets talk business. If you would be able to ship it, that would be awesome, if not I will figure out someway to get it up to Chicago.
  5. If you guys don't send it back to BMW shoot me an email with details of how complete the engine is and a picture or two. If you are willing to ship it, I am very interested in it. Synystersilvia@gmail.com
  6. Appreciate the comments. This project is moving slower than I planned since I am finishing up my GTO before I take the plunge financially. But the GTO is up on the rotisserie finally and Ive made great headway into finishing up the last of the body work on it. I recently had a friend that works for a dealership take new measurements for me on the engine. His rough measurement was that the engine was 31" wide and 28" long. Which is basically the width of the engine bay. I may need to look into a mockup motor or something before I take the plunge. Caperix, interested in selling/donating your blown motor for science?
  7. Motor was on a pallet...and in all fairness I did ask him for rough measurements. I guess his definition is different then mine. I was hoping for something +/- 0.25". Oh well, such is life. Going on the fact that it fits in an e30, im going to say it will fit in a 240z. The only concern being height. If we run out of plenum clearance I guess we will just have to run open stacks through the hood .
  8. I'm calling BS on the dimensions the guy gave me. The 240z and e30 engine bay are nearly the same width (its proven the motor fits in an e30), and they are only about 31" wide. So I doubt that motor is 35" wide. Back to square one. Looks like im just going to have to buy a motor and go for it.
  9. In case anyone is curious I was finally able to get someone to measure a motor for me and here are the engine overall dimensions. 35" Wide (widest point of cylinder heads) 29" Tall (Bottom of Oil Pan to top of Plenums) 32" Deep (Crank pulley to back of block)
  10. Wanted to check in and let you guys know I am still doing this swap. Just have to finish up another project car I had sitting around first. The '66 GTO I've been working on for the better part of a decade (long story, shouldn't have taken this long), is almost ready to roll out for paint. After that car is put back together and ready to go we are probably going to sell it to fund the 240z project. In the mean time I picked up my own miller syncrowave 200 for the garage so I wont have to rely on the shop TIG at work, plus I can start cranking out some side work on the weekends to add additional funding to my Z. As far as measurements go I am still working on getting someone to take rough measurements for me. I tried emailing people on ebay that had them for sale, but none were willing to grab a tape measure for 5 minutes to help me out.
  11. I will definitely try to document the build as much as possible. So far I am looking at 6 months before I pull the trigger on the motor and transmission. My friend works for a BMW delearship and is trying to get measurements for me on the motor before I go ahead and sell the rb25. I am fairly confident that it will fit, since it fits into the engine bay of a 1 series, and that bay is only 1 inch wider at its narrowist point than the engine bay of my 240z. Although I would still like to be 100% confident it will fit.
  12. It is funny to see this come up actually. I currently have an RB25 resting in the engine bay of my 240z that I salvaged from an old project that I parted out, but I am switching my plans to do the S85 swap in my car. While I love my RB, because it is probably the smoothest running motor I have ever built, I want to step up my project cars to the next level. The factory ECU can probably be used, but my plan was to use a standalone. There are 2 options for standalones that I know of, one being Pectal ($$$$$$$) and the other is the Tornado 2 from a swedish company. I plan on using a 6 speed out of an E90/92 m3 since they are identical to the v10 6 speed. Being young engineer for Roush, I do have the budget for this project and will probably be looking to put my RB up on the market in the not so distant future. I will post a build thread for this once I pull the trigger on the motor/transmission sometime in the next few months.
