  1. well i'm in bad shape because i know nothing about electrical. would upgrading to MSD help me out? because basically if i upgrade to msd ignition, woun't everything be hooked up to that instead of the stock ignition components?
  2. same problem on my 240, but also whem ignition is off... I wish someone would help me out with this: the ignition gave me problems when it activated the starter in the LOCK position, so i hook a new ignition switch up but the same thing happens, it tries to start and most of the time actually does start when i turn the key to the lock position. Ignition relay keeps clicking on and off in even intervals, and my battery drains
  3. so the other night i had pulled in the driveway and shut the car off, but due to a bad ignition switch, she started back up when i rotated the key around to "lock". so i yanked the coil wire, but didn't pay much attention to the relay i keep hearing kick on and off every 10 seconds or so in the lower passenger side of the dash. what is going on here? it killed my battery. i believe it also did the same thing when i tried the new ignition switch (couldn't install it yet), but my new ignition switch was in the off position. also i believe it is making my alternator turn off and on while driving (the car will be sluggish like it's being starved of electricity). could this be a voltage regulator? or another electrical component that has gone bad? it's driving me insane cuz i can't drive it much since i have to disconnect the battery where ever i go.
  4. Our problems may be different. I figured out my duralast cap wasn't right for the car. The one that was on there fits snugly and was made especially for the car, not a universal p.o.s... Anyways, my problem most likely is dirty carbs from sitting so long. I think they need to be rebuilt but i know nothing at all about the SU carbs... They look like they are a pain in the --- to work on. Anyone have a step by step guid to tuning them? How bout with pictures? Or for rebuilding them? I would appreciate it very much
  5. Yeah it's most likely not the proper cap or something... I'll put the old one back in along with the rotor... See how that does... Also the fuel filter looks like a snow globe when ya thump it... Possible this is causing my hesitating issue when taking off from an idle? O.o
  6. Ok so i just bought a 1973 240z that has a 1978 280z motor in it, but has dual SU carbs. It sat for awhile, but runs alright, just hesitates at acceleration... Why?? also i did the plugs and cap/rotor/wires and now it runs even worse! to the point that it is really sputtering and hesitating while accelerating. i don't think the Duralast distributor cap is right for the car and can be causing this. any suggestions? also the hood cable broke so now i'm going to have a hell of a time getting the hood back open. how can this be done?
