  1. as the air comes off the back of the roof, it tries to go straight.but it will also follow the body line if it slopes, as it does in the s30. so what ends up happening is it pulls up on the rear of the car unloading the tires. a spoiler counteracts that affect by redirecting the air back upward, thus pushing down on the car. the vg's on the otherhand (also known as turbulator strips) break up the air as it leaves the flat part of the roof, brealing this "suction" and making a even higher drag spoiler less/unnessicary. this is why cars like the lotus europa and vega kammback wagon came about, to get rid of the slope for aerodynamic purposes. hope this helps!
  2. Mine is a 71 (6/71) 4 speed car. interior is 95% done, but engine is blown. plan is after February swap in my lt1 out of my roadmaster. body is solid, one fender need final massaging, and then its ready for maaco (good paint job will come when i have all the body mod stuff!)
  3. ok guys, heres the deal. my 71 is a 4 speed car. i like shifting gears. t-56's are expensive. but my 4l60e needs rebuilt. should i convert the z and rebuild my 4L install paddle shifters (ie shrifter), or spring for the t-56? i plan on building the car for some serious power down the road. any opinions? lol, anyone want to trade a t-56 for broken 4L? j/k:burnout:
  4. im dealing with that now in my 94 roadmaster. 2nd, 3rd and od are fine, but 1st is like putting your foot in pudding. 2 (likely) possibilities. clutch pack is going out-thats my problem, even though reverse is fine- or if you overheated the valve body could be stuck. more likely the first, though. hope this helps! -ryan
  5. how do i sign up fo the georgia z club? i need an excuse to get out of st marys every now and then! -ryan
  6. hey guys. so i finally landed my Z. its a 71 240 4 speed, passenger side fender/door need paint, but interoir has been restored from carpet to weatherstripping....500 bucks. downside- cracked head that snapped a valve in #1 and cracked the cylinder/broke the piston. question is, are the parts available to resleeve that hole, and how much to do a basic low budget rebuild-just enough to get a pulse? i am swapping in an lt1 next year, lol, my roadmaster is making the ultimate sacrifice. but i would like to drive it until then. i havent seen many Z's in SE GA, and parts seem scarce, at least used. any help would be appreciated. lol, and if anyone near st marys, ga has a cheap z motor for sale, let me know:wink: thanks guys!
  7. brute force works, im planning a 455 olds install, but if you're going cheap on a caddy install, you may be disappointed. if nothing else, make sure you replace the rocker assm. with a racing unit. all that power is great, but if you dont turn the revs, it wont be the car you think it will. caddy engines dont like much over 4800rpm, the bottom end will live (but replace rod bolts) but the valvetrain is a horrible heavy design and WILL come apart. to make a big caddy capable of spinning much over 5000 you can count on dropping some cash, so with the benefit super light weight, great economy, and compact design for tight installs, the 4.6 isnt so wild. -ryan
  8. another bit going for the buick 455 is weight. sbc = 560 lbs, bbb = 450lbs. just keep output below 600-650 hp or this engine will tear itsself apart! to cure that, TA performance has an aluminum block and heads.......ryan
  9. news for the aurora v-8! $4,325.00 320 Horsepower @ 6400 RPM and 310 lb-ft torque @ 4400 RPM Sequential fuel injection Bore is 93.00 mm and Stroke is 84.00 mm with 10.5:1 compression ratio Aluminum Block, Aluminum Heads, and Hydraulic roller design camshaft. This engine powers the Cadillac XLR and SRX This production engine includes: exhaust manifolds, intake manifold, injectors, fuel rails, balancer, water pump and flywheel this engine will bolt directly to the t-56. it also features vvt for broad torque curve and increased cruising economy. just a thought for a cool, light high-tech Z! this info came from scoggin-dickey performance, sdpc2000.com. they have quite a selection of gm crate engines. -ryan
  10. if a vehicle used an oldsmobile v8 (post 1964), you can bolt any oldsmobile v8 to the mounts. the only considerations are that a big block (400/425/455) on small block mounts (307/330/350/403) will sit higher in the engine compartment vs big block mounts, and the small block mounts are less beefy than the big block counterparts. however, if you are doing a 307 swap, consider a pre 77 olds 5.7 as they are abundunt, cheap, and a whole lot stronger than your windowed main 307 with much better airflow in the heads. for a roller cam, look for a late 5.7 diesel, or for a killer big block olds roller motor, a 66/67 toronado (ONLY!!!) 425 can be easily adapted to use the 307's hydraulic roller lifters! hope this helps! -ryan
  11. hey. my name is ryan, and this is my first post. i have chosen a 455 olds for my hybrid, as i have a 68 toro 455 lying around needing a good home (and my wife would kill me if i pulled the lt1 out of the roadmaster i just bought!!!). if anyone has olds engine questions other than how to install (hoping for help on that one, lol) i know these motors well. that aside, i want to use mcleod ind. modular bellhousing to put a t56 in it. however, i dont know which to use, considering shifter location. id appreciate any help/recommendations by those of you who have already made the swap. as for pland for the car, dual quad efi, custom comp cam, aluminun heads (and anything else i can get away with), 10:1 comp, side pipes, headlight covers, g nose, nexxus guages, and a slew of other go fast gadgets. also, what are the widest tires you can fit in the rear of the car. im expecting around 600 lb/ft of torque, i'll be in desperate need of traction! -ryan
