  1. Thanks rusty, thats good info that i needed. I was going to say, even for this tranny, it should be able to hold the amount of power i need. Im not considering making this car a powerhouse because thats what my 240sx is for with the RB25. The Z i just want some more kick becuase i've always wanted a moderately fast turbo 280. I drove my Turbo 81 before my friend totalled it and gave it to me and i loved it even though it had the worst exhuast leak on cylinders 5 and 6, i just cant wait to convert my L28E to T to see how much the upped compression and a bit of a better tune runs. Ill also go look at the carbon fiber hood becuase i've seen some pretty sick carbon fiber hoods on some S30's before.
  2. Hello everyone, i've lurked or shadowed this site for over a year just picking up random bits of knowledge here and there about the RB community but never really took the L series section and gave it the attention it deserved becuase i finnally just came into the realm of the L28E and L28ET and i love them both. Reason i watched the RB forum so often is becuase i have an RB25DET powered 240sx that i built myself So here is a bit of progress starting with the day i picked it up about two weeks ago to now. Bra's are not your friend or the paints friend... Here's why. Notice rust and paint discoloration on the front. Me and Rob Dirty Clean Spare Intake installed Bra Damage Sanded Some first attempts at bondo, which doesnt like cold very well.... Wet paint! Painted the rims Louvers off! My plans for this car is to turbocharge the existing motor since it has a higher compression than the turbo motor, but just as strong. All i need to do the swap is a few Z31 components and to swap every thing off my wrecked turbo parts car. The few questions i've had about my whole plan is, do these motors l28e and l28et differ much from the block? As in Rods/Bearings/Crank? I know the pistons differ as to compression, but i had planned on boosting the l28e instead becuase of the higher compression and running the Z31 ECU/MAF/DIZZY/CAS swap with it. The L28ET is in a wrecked 1981 280zxt The L28E is obviously the White 1982 5 speed. Would the power added to the L28E with the turbo be safe for the current transmission or should i search for a T5 borg warner? Ill edit in more questions if i think of more. This forum is a really badass place and i hope i enjoy the community now that i have a Z and im active in it.
  3. Im doing an L28ET into a L28E car 280zx and i was wondering how you got a KA24DE transmission to mate up to the L28ET? I Have an 1981 L28ET, so since its obviously automatic, and i coincidently have a spare KA24DE tranny in my backyard, what did you use? Did it bolt up? or what?
  4. My bad, i meant the gt-25t or something like that, There is GTS-M and a few other randomly letter models that came with rb20de rb20det rb25de rb25det rb26dett were all in the R32 model car. R33's came with the same config as well, and the R34's had the RB26DETT RB25VET ( Neo ) RB20VE ( NEO ) Rb25ve ( Neo ) etc...
  5. They came in all Skyline R32-R33's GTS-T / GTS-25GT Skyline ECR33 and older stageas RB25VET's went in the newer stagea and GTS-25GT R34's. RB25VET = Neo 6 motor, with 280hp and 250tq.
  6. What about the lining up of water/coolant jackets? Would this not be an issue? How does something like a head of an RB series motor being DOHC no less, end up working out for a L series motor?
  7. I was wondering this also, Is the 280z l28e exhaust manifold is not interchangeable with the 280zxt l28et exhaust manifold? Is the stud layout different? And is this also the same for the intake manifold?
  8. Hey guys, i found this forum through 300zx club, in pursuit for more knowledge of the early datsun Z cars, although i know quite a few things about them, there is never enough to know so i came here for more knowledge to expand upon my Z car love. I currently own a 1991 240sx base model 5 speed. with Hotshot headers, intake, exhaust, nkg ignition components, kyb gr-2 w/r1 racing springs, 280z rims, and Vlsd equiped, along with fron and rear strut bar. Then, and now, and yes, the air wall was made by me and everything that has been done to the car has been done by my hands. Here is the Z that i looking into buying, its a fixer upper but hopefully i can talk the owner into purchasing the vehicle, needs valve adjust, fuel lines, basic tune up. Another reason i am also looking into this Z not also as a restore, but as a daily driver to replace my 240sx becuase i am going through an Skyline GTS-25t Rb25det engine swap out of an r33 95-98. I hope to recieve this place as a good source of info, and i have heard the people here are friendly and very helpful, thanks.
  9. I work here at Saturn of tulsa, and im around the 2.2 liter ecotec, and the 2.0 liter ecotec supercharged Ions, as well as the ecotecs in the saturn view. They are more or less economy engines, and only the supercharged ION's are the only ones that have git up and go, and its really not even that fast after that. the 2.2 liter ecotec engines are extremely weak. I drive them every day at work and the only saturn that i have driven with good low end power, is the Saturn L300, which has the poorly engineered Saab 3.0 liter V6 in it. Another problem with the ECO tec in those things is the endless amounts of sensors and electical problems that they have. Saturn just runs way to much electronics on the motor and or whole car. Its just poor design. Now the older motors, are actually pretty reliable and strong for what they're made from. I see more newer saturns here in the service bay than i do older ones. They CAN make power, just as anything else can, GM proved that by making the D class land speed record with the ION redline 2 liter, But... its still a saturn. -Speed Fanatic
