  1. Honestly, down here it's extremely rare to see any old imports. I can only suspect it's because of rust but, even 280zxs are fairly rare hehe so I just assumed.
  2. I didn't even know that nissan had produced a turbo 4 cylinder car in north america but, apparently I was wrong. My friend owns a small dealership and the family in a house behind the property recently moved out, giving him full permission to whatever was left in the backyard. Keep in mind this is a run down house but still it was amazing what we found. A 1984 Nissan 200SX RWD Turbo, complete car. Of course there is no title but, to anyone on the gulf coast that might want anything off this car let me know, if you want to come pick it up or whatever. It has the CA18ET engine and whatever five speed tranny that was with the car. I've already got dibs on the rearend though if I feel like getting dirty in this side spot of the house. I know most of you Z guys live out west but, I figured I'd try and do the friendly thing and give a heads up to anyone that might want the turbo or something. The car is wedged between the garage and a fence so it's unlikely that anything too large could be pulled but, this might be perfect if you can't find anything in the junkyard. I can only assume these cars are rare
  3. That looks great and the fab work is incredible, very informative as well. I too would like to know how much one of these setups would cost or how difficult it would be to diy all this. I was going to go with the pallnet fuel rail but it would be nice to get rid of the OE injector type. I guess my overall goal is to just clean up the engine bay as much as possible by getting rid of anything unnecessary and rearranging the stuff that is needed.
  4. WoW, Big Congrats! That beast sounds great too.
  5. Yeah it's a 1979 280zx 2+2. I changed my username from nismofiend to hybrids130 on aim, yahoo, and all other forums I belong to several months ago. I just forgot to do it on this one as well, I've already sent a pm to admin though. I didn't want to have to change it again when i do actually get around to the motor swap so I just went ahead with hybrid. Plan on doing either a L28ET swap or RB20 swap depending on costs, difficulty, availability and power differences. Sorry to hijack thread.
  6. I would imagine that pouring some oil directly into the cylinder would be your best bet.
  7. First off make sure you disconnect the battery. I made that mistake, tried to adjust the tension on the belt and as I was tightening the bolts down I touched something and BAM sparks everywhere haha. I never had to actually remove it but, I did have to move it out of the way so I could pull the head. It's pretty straight forward and mainly 14mm bolts if I recall correctly. You'll have to do some work from up top and some from down low. When the new one is in make sure to have plenty of tension on the belt or else it won't charge properly. There are specific ways of doing this but, so long as the belt doesn't move up and down much you'll be fine. Edit: Depending on what tools you have, how familiar you are with the car and how quickly you work it shouldn't take that long. You should be able to have the old one off and new one on in under an hour. Alternator bolts won't be stuck on real tight like some others. Also, if you don't hae power steering that makes it a lot easier too.
  8. The spark plugs look pretty good and only slightly black but, I can only imagine that's from the various tinkering I've done with the timing. Honestly I don't think it's an injector problem. Im starting to think it's just a crappy engine problem. Keep in mind I had to replace the head gasket on this car when I first got it, it was not running. Somehow I missed it but, the cam bearing cap was missing a bolt on the driver side (#1 cylinder) and the cam bearing cap near the #6 cylinder has a completely stripped out hole on the passenger side, the bolt was missing from the first one and still in place just sitting there on the second. Suddenly I've become extremely worried as to how big of a problem this could be and I realize that I've been driving this car for five months with these two bolts missing and I've gotten on it plenty. I wonder how close to failing the engine could be now. The body is in great shape and the car only had 78,803 miles on it when I got it. Although it leaks lots of oil from various places, coolant (needs new radiator) and power steering fluid (needs all new lines). There are several important places that have been stripped out by the previous owner and the brakes are still super soft eventhough I've replaced the front rotors, pads, lines and master cylinder, . . twice. The Z is worse than my woman in that it breaks my balls and my heart where as the woman just breaks muh balls. Edit: Forgot to mention that I have not done a compression check for that I am worried to what I may find, . . . one of those things where I need to do it but, Im afraid of the results. Should I start looking for another engine? Maybe rebuild it?
  9. yes stock zx injection, actually i think some of the thermostat sensors are messed up, rarely smokes but yes it's a greyish blue, timing is still good, dizzy seems to be fine.
  10. No suggestions at all?! Also, when I start the car it's either on five cylinders or a really bad miss. Im pretty sure it's five cylinders though because that sound and feel is hard to miss. It goes away after a few taps of the throttle but, it's doing it more and more lately.
  11. It's been doing this for awhile now but, when I first got the timing set after the head gasket job was all done it ran great and strong and when I got on it, it would spin first, second a little, and bark third. Now if I try and just go it bogs down in first and feels like it has no torque, sure doesn't spin tires or bark at all anymore. Basically when/if I give it full throttle it just bogs down and feels gutless, as if a stock kia rio could fly past me. I've already rebuilt the AFM and that was before the problem so I don't think it's that, I just put on new injector connectors but, that was after the problem so I don't think that's it either although it does feel a lot smoother now. The air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs and spark plug wires (taylor 8mm) are all new. It doesn't smoke either if that helps at all. I plan on buying the pallnet fuel rail soon with the fuel pressure gauge so that should give me some insight on that. Should I look into getting newer but still used injectors off of another car? Before I forget it's a NA 1979 280zx 2+2 5-speed. I understand that it's bound to be slow because of NA+2+2=slow but it seems to have lost all power. Cam gear is set to the third position if that matters. Im trying to think of anything that I might've forgotten,. . . . hmm.
  12. Or a Z with a CA18DET motor? I saw something similar months ago too, it was a couple pics of some japanese guys standing around a Z (can't remember if it was S30 or S130 though) and the back tail piece said 180ZX. Threw me way off.
  13. What about this? http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/intake/index.html
  14. So could I grind out the webbing on my intake manifold or is that a no no? Im not as familiar with all the various L6 parts so I have a had time telling if you guys are using 280z or 280zx manifolds.
