  1. Just got my 260z with an L24 running tonight. Have these 2 ports near my carbs that I don't have any idea about- can someone help me out? It seems to run a little bit stronger with them covered by fingers. Can these just be capped off? Not concerned about emissions. Above right of the top carb, below left of the bottom carb in the first picture
  2. Right now I'm just working on getting it so I can drive it around, but it's gonna get the race diet sooner or later. I got in contact with Rich of Daft Innovations and he said he doesn't like working on the L-series engines but put me into contact with a friend of his that does, Eric. Eric came over today and did all the work I needed on my car, great job, nice guy, too. Thanks!
  3. thanks, i think i'll give him a call about my 260Z... i am only now realizing i have typed 240Z every time so far in the thread >_< it does have an L24 though from the PO
  4. Hey guys, my 240Z engine is still in pieces after I had the head redone and it is, quite frankly, starting to make me sad sitting in the garage. however, I have NO time to work on it right now and I have decided i'd rather just pay someone to have it done. I'm looking for a good shop in NorCal that won't jerk me around based on your experiences. if they knew their way around a Z it'd be great. I am in Manteca, next to Stockton, hour out of Sacramento and about the same out of San Francisco. Thanks, Connor
  5. wow, that's pretty freakin neat. and i thought i was lucky when i found 3 flipflops and some change in mine...
  6. thanks for all the help, guys. gotta get the compression worked out (120-110-105-60-95-160 ) but it did give me hope. hazards won't turn off with the battery hooked up, though... Carb: 3 or 4 screw, advantage/disadvantage or not? Smog crap is most likely gonna come off since I don't need it thank god for pre-75s.... thanks for the welcome, too, getting a LOT of information from this site. i've been looking into the cars for a couple months before i bought this one last week, my dad has been real surprised with how large a group these draw online. yep, that's what we've been told
  7. alright, i guess i'll figure it out. NizmoZEd, in CA pre-1975 cars are smog exempt, which is why I was so excited that there was a 74 in this shape for sale at the price I paid
  8. understood, my problem is that I am not sure whether I need a shop manual for a 240 or a 260. i suppose both eventually, but does it look like a majority of the parts on the engine are from the 240?
  9. Hey, Bought a 74 260z last weekend. Not running, but straight bodied and nice. A lot of the stuff in the engine bay is kinda gnarly... the PO really had no idea what was going on, we are going through and finding stuff that hints at a certain level of incompetency It has a 240z engine according to the PO. This seems to check out. What I need to do is ID all the stuff on here because I am not sure if some is from the 260, if all of it is 240, or what. Don't know what year the engine is. Trying to figure out what books to get, what diagrams to look for, etc etc. Thanks for the help! Click any picture to view it 1280x960 Overall engine bay shot. Can see the carbs, these would be dometops? Is the emissions/vacuum system recognizable as being from any particular year? N36 intake manifold, any particular year? L24 on engine block. to the right is the SN 187988 E88 on head Car Thanks again!
  10. Hey guys, thanks for reading this, i tried to search my topics but didn't get a ton of usable information and I don't like bumping old threads to ask one question on other forums i frequent. Recently acquired a '74 260z, perfect for me because I don't have to deal with the ridiculous CA smog laws when I swap. It's in real great shape body wise, garaged for 10 years, but it doesn't get a spark and so it doesn't run. I'm going to try and get it to move on the stock engine (actually from a 240z, the 260 engine blew long ago) to save me some time to build funds but if I can't get it to go i'll just bite the bullet and swap. There is an older 302 sitting in the garage that my dad got for free to use as a spare for our 1973 Bronco. it's older, but it ran before it was pulled and it's been sitting on a stand in the garage since then. I would love to use this in the Z, but the Ford conversions don't seem to be as well supported by the aftermarket for some reason. My dad has good fabrication skills where I lack, so we can build a good amount of stuff, but if there is anything that'd be a real headache i'll throw down some money and save trouble. Here is the question: 1) What should I try to purchase? Anything that is a real pain to fab up would be cool to mention here. 2) What should I make? Anything recommended that is sold just because some are too lazy, etc etc applies. Last one applies to transmissions. I want to have a manual transmission, but most of the swaps I see use C(X) automatics. We have an NP435 in the bronco, but I don't think the gearing in it would be very well suited to a car like this What do you guys recommend for manuals in these swaps? Thanks, Connor
