  1. I've been searching everything I can think of over on and off over the last couple of weeks. I had a drivers side u joint halfshaft go and I can't find a replacement that is easily gotten. That has made me think I should go ahead and convert it to the CV joint halfshafts that are very easily found. I thought that I would be able to find a simple write up on how it's done, that has not happened. I have found several things pointing to a Z31 swap that I would not be against either, but again, no write up to get an idea of what it takes. I'm more of a follow the instructions guy and I would rather not be scratching my head for 6 months since I'm an idiot of sorts. I really apreciate it if anyone has a link or knows how to do this and can help.
  2. Have we dealt with that company before? Are they a reputable company? That engine even has the AC compressor and, everything, I wish I had the money right now. Alright, I'll just get the whole thing as one piece when I have that extra cash and work from there, thanks, Ralph.
  3. There the only ones I have, I don't have any from the Z club just as of yet. All of the videos can be seen directly in the threads too so you don't have to go to both. I LOVE that feature on my boards The thread on the forum if you want to know more about it http://www.gatewaysportcars.com/gscc-cruise-video-t219.html The video only The thread to the second one http://www.gatewaysportcars.com/my-video-from-the-march-22nd-meet-t503.html The video The last cruise we did, thread http://www.gatewaysportcars.com/gssc-cruise-to-daniel-boone-s-farm-22-jun-t657.html The video
  4. Well hello Ralph, what a great name you have, very regal if you ask me . I've gone over all of the scenarios in my head and there are positives to both in my situation. I can get stock 240sx parts all day long, I've already got access to a free transmission if I want it. I would run a megasquirt in that case too and could get ls1 coils dirt cheap. Like you have said, finding the RB20 parts are what worries me a little. The head and intake mani, the bell housing, and flywheel are the ones that make me think a motorset would be the best option. Again, an extra 500 or so would be worth it to me to have everything from the get go in new or like new shape. If it runs 1000 or more, maybe then it's a bad option, and I would not know until I started buying stuff either. The crank has been collared and it has the Tomie oil gallery orifices, when he told me that I told him it may be more than I need, I'll probably just wait for a price from him. He's one of my club members and takes great care of his stuff so it's hard for me to decide which would be better for me in my situation. Thanks for the help with this guys.
  5. A KA would be fine for what I want it for, I have access to one too (besides the one in my sx lol.) Let me see, that would "only" leave a heck of a lot I have to buy Head, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, injectors, megasquirt, fuel pump, I'm picking up a sx rear end assembly soon, driveshaft, rear sump oil pan and pick up, motor mounts, fab tranny and diff mount, guages, shoot, piece of cake.
  6. I can only imagine that it's talked about somewhere but I sure as heck can't find it it using the key words I can think of. I'll preface my question with the cars eventual use so it makes a little more sense too. I deliver Pizza for a living, I see no time in the near future when this won't be the case so I have come up with a plan to make a great pizza car/daily driver/fun car (I've been doing it over 15 years now it's kind of about time lol.) I am going to build my 280zx with a RB20det so I can still have some of the TQ but the small displacement that gets better fuel mileage. I have a gentleman in my sports car club that has a RB20det in his s-14 and is swapping out the short block the beginning of next year. I think for my purposes it would be a great solution because I can make sure I can have a completely fresh engine when I drop it in for four or five years of solid service without having to rebuild it (20 to 30 thousand miles a year if it's a good low year, I've put as many as 62 thousand in 13 months but thats not common.) The question is, is there a transmission stateside (I.E. the KA, Z31, Z32) that will bolt right on? I've read some things about the larger siblings but have not found any info about the 20, maybe I looked in the wrong spot, I don't know. I have to start buying some things for the swap into my car if I buy it like that. It would literally not come with anything but the short block.
  7. Ok, I LOVE that site of yours, I'll be passing it along to my fellow Z club members here in St. Louis. Thank you soooo much.
  8. Just in case someone finds this via the search Courtesy Nissan has a 4.11 ring and pinion listed too. Too much for my blood at the moment but I may change my mind if I can't find one lol. http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=38100-P6600&Category_Code=
  9. Now see, this is why I love you guys lol. Thank you for that info, I will now be looking for that.
  10. I did not see that sticky in the drive train section, I just did several searches via the search engine on the site, thank you. I was hoping the shafts were the same on the gear and the shaft on the yoke was simply longer. I need to find a better gear ratio, oh well, back to thew drawing board.
  11. I did a search but could not find the answer so I hope I just did not miss it. I have an 80 manual and was wondering a couple of things about the rear end that are not talked about in the diff faq. 1. What is the rear end gear ratio in the N/A? Maybe nobody knows for sure. 2. Will the ring and pinion gears from a 96 240sx fit since it's a r200 diff in the first place? Now the back story, I have a 90 240sx and my 80 ZX, I would LOVE the acceleration of the 4.08 rear assuming it is like a 3 and change rear like everything else in the late 70's early 80's (gotta love the 273's in my 80 Camaro that I used to have ) Well, a member of my car Club is selling his diff out of said 96 240sx with a phantom grip. Since the whole thing won't fit I was hoping I could just swap the gears and have it be cool. Also, my speedo is gone as it is (it just bounces around like crazy) and I have a cool GPS HUD one anyway so thats not a problem, just the fit of it in the diff is all I'm worried about. I think this is my first post so I appreciate the fact that there is so much info here that most of the time except for socializing a newb like myself does not have to ask questions very often , thanks!
