  1. 65 lbs each, only reason I know this is because I had to have a fully assembled set shipped to me. UPS guy was a sad sight dragging them to the door step 1 at a time, sadder still when I put one under my arm and signed for them, lol.
  2. It'll be pretty slick once it's done, my biggest concern is getting traction and then after that keeping from twisting the frame as even some of the meanest Mustangs will get twisted by the Clevelands without reinforcing the car.
  3. Actually it IS a small block, Dimensionally it's slightly taller than a 302/5.0 and slightly shorter than a 351W. It also uses the exact same mounts and bell housing as both a 302 AND a 351W. Now if you want a motor that will REALLY confuse the crap outa you look no further than a 351m/400 motor, that sucker is almost as big as a 460 but is TECHNICALLY considered a small block despite using the "385 series" aka BBF bell housing and having its own special mounts (except in 1970 but good luck finding one of those suckers).
  4. Well I've got a set of SBF mounts and a 351C block that I can use to mock up for the 302, as for the tranny, a C4 will fit almost anywhere and IIRC a T56 is a BIG MOFO of a tranny and can be wedged under these cars without cutting. I think the biggest problem I'll have is finding a spot to mount the oil filter relocation kit and hooking up the radiator. If the motor sticks up a bit high (and I'm sure it will) I have no problems with cutting the hood and welding on a steel cowl. If anyone has some pics of either an LS1 swap or a SBF swap that I can work from then it'll help accelerate the time frame that this takes to do.
  5. A local guy is selling a 91 300zx for $500, motor is slagged but who cares about that. I want to drop a 302/c4 into it and use it as my daily driver, aside from possibly having to change the oil pan and pickup what else might I have to change to get it all in and fit? Looking for the "knuckle dragger" approack here, quick and dirty swap with room for improvement later down the road.
  6. The 352, 390, 427, and 428 are all FE motors and are inherently insanely expensive due to the low availability of the blocks as well as all of the "fuss" involved with building and maintaining one of them, detonation being one of the key factors with those motors. Then there's the 429 and 460, these motors can be found in almost any car or truck from 72 and up and, except in a few cases, were mostly work horse motors and can be swapped into almost any ford RWD chassi and a few FWD ones as well, my personal favorites being the 1970-79 rancheros and the '70-'72 Torino/Gran Torino. Also the Fox mustang guys like throwing all kinds of things under the hood of their little cars and the SN95 'stangs can easily be swapped to a BBF without even cutting the inner fenders (although the car had better be reinforced if you want it to make more than 1 pass down the strip). If you want to know everything there is to know about fords, new and old, you should check out http://www.fordmuscle.com/forums just be ready to do ALOT of reading.
  7. The reason it's cheaper to go Chevy is because the MASSIVE availability of parts and the competition amongst the part makers has driven the cost of some parts down, whereas the Fords have been largely ignored. A prime example is the Edlebrock aluminum Cleveland heads, @ Nearly $2000 for a pair of heads you get bare heads that are no better then a set of cleaned up old school iron heads. Then you "find" CHI 3v heads for the same price that come all assembled and are completely C&C machined as well as offering better port and chamber geometry, the down side to these heads is that due to the relocated and improved ports you also need a special intake which is produced and provided by CHI and can be ordered to fit a 351 Cleveland block, 302 block, 351 Winsor block, and finally this years Engine Masters champion the 351M/400 block.
  8. The main problem with the BBF parts is that the more main stream part suppliers like Edlebrock make sub par parts for more than double the cost of what they should be, then you happen to dig up a set of Kaase Boss 9 heads and you suddenly need to change your undies! You have to dig through all the rubbish parts before you get to the cream of the crop when it comes to the Fords, and you'll usually find that the more amazing and less talked about parts are cube for cube, dollar for dollar, better than the almost anything you can find for a dodge, chevy, amc, or what-have-you. You just gotta be willing to look for them!
  9. TBH a Cleveland will fit anywhere that a 302 or 351W will fit, same motor mounts AND tranny bell housing pattern. The oiling issue mentioned earlier is the fact that mains 4 and 5 are absolute last in line to get fed but this is only a problem if you expect the motor to live above 6000 RPM and can be corrected by installing a bypass line from the front of the motor to the back (there are even predrilled fittings on the block for this exact purpose). You can find heads, intakes, and almost anything else you could possibly want for your cleveland from AFD or CHI as well as plentiful stroker kits from Eagle and Scatt, or if you really wanted to you could always get a set of Aussi 302C heads. Most people dont like Clevelands because there is alot of misinformation about them due to the fact that they were ONLY produced for 4 years (1970-1973 with extra motors being installed in cars in 1974). If you're just "putting" a Cleveland together, with a little tweaking, they can make 450+ HP/tq without even trying, whereas if you're going "balls-to-the-walls" you're gonna hit about 700 hp/tq, but I hope you can afford feeding that beast. And the very last bit of info you might want to know: Cleveland heads have the EXACT same head bolt pattern as a 302, 351W, and 351M/400; you just need a custom modified intake to put them on a 302 or 351W whereas a 351M/400 is a tall deck cleveland with 3" main journals instead of the usual Cleveland 2.75".
  10. I've been looking into getting a 280 zx for a daily driver and think I've found one that I like. It's an '82 2+2 and looks to be very clean. Admittedly I don't know much about these cars and was hoping to get some info from the more experienced members here. One of my goals is to maintain fuel economy and efficiency, possibly by installing a stock turbo and a manual tranny. With the I6 that is already in the car what could I expect with these upgrades?
  11. I'm a bit new here but to answer your question on CHI heads, they are the end all of Cleveland heads. A decently built 351 Cleveland with matched 3V heads can easily tear apart both the car that it's in as well as scatter the block. There is ONE other set of heads that scare the bejeebus out of me and they are 4 valve per cylender heads for a Cleveland, but they run $12k for the set.
