  1. Yeah I know I would need a wastegate and im thinking forged just for the fact that its a daily drive car. Plus later down the road I want to get a big turbo. Building the motor isnt that hard for me to accomplish on my own the main thing im looking at being a painful experiance is making that Megasquirt work. If I remember right the 83 n/a car has a 3.96 non Lsd. After looking around for some time I believe its going to be much easier to just weld my diff. The other option being buy the conversion kit that locks the gears. I've recently opened my diff to inspect it and it looked great that was a week ago. Also last week I got a new drive shaft made so I now have greasable replacable u-joints. I pulled the trans off my car put input shaft bearing and seal a new turbo flywheel from Sachs and the turbo 9.5 clutch on my car. I went with a Zoom clutch. When you built your turbo Dexter did you mess with your internals at all? What turbo did you go with how much boost and did you use the Megasquirt or go a different route. Im guessing you used the 440's on yours Also was the car decent to drive daily or was it just a track car
  2. Ok im new on this forum but I have read many of your articles over the years just keeping my poor old 83 280zx n/a on the road while I have been learning and pack rating away parts that I know I would one day use. So first off let me lay out what I have A running driving bone stock 83 280zx t-top 5 speed car with the F54 block P90 head and the Nissan 5 speed its N/A. Another complete L28et F54 block P90 head motor. The car it came from had 115k on the odometer. Turbo wiring harness complete stock turbo setup thats good 2 turbo ecu's About $3000 expendable cash on hand and building 6 29mm Mikuni carbs and whole assortment of jets I have been torn as to where to go from here. At one point I was thinking about building the stroker 3.1 n/a motor. Actually found out I can get the V07 from my machine shop this man works miracles is all I can say. So I dug deeper and I actually thought about trying to run this thing on 6 Mikuni's. I mean I have them why not see if I could use them. I used to play with the old KZ1000 Kawasaki's so I know what it takes to get 4 sync'ed together. But then I started to think about not being able to really play with the car when I was done cause it would cost so much more on fuel then a good FI system. After all I want to be able to jump in this car and drive it to car shows not just play with it on the track. So then I started over on the drawing board so to say. I began to research again and found everyones topic talking about turbo is the best bang for your buck. So I was thinking ok get me an A grind cam do some porting and polishing on my head grab up a T3/T4 Garrett a decent cooler and some piping go up 1mm on my valves do a good valve job spring for the forged pistons a Mega Squirt system and a set of the Supera injectors a good boost controller and there we go. Boost it to the max when I want to play and dial it all back when I want to save. So I have both options laid in front of me then I thought about combining the two well sort of... Use the stock l28et crank 133mm forged rods 89mm forged pistons an A grind cam andgo ahead and mega squirt put a 2mm HKS head gasket on Supera injectors slap the stock turbo on and drop this new motor in the car. That way I can enjoy for now and not have to go back through the whole motor when I have some cash saved up and decide hey that V07 would be nice or hey lets push 15lbs or 20lbs of boost with a new turbo and see what it will do. So excuse the ramblings of a mad man and over look some of the more technical aspets that I have obviously left out of the above but that is the thought patterens I have at this point. With that being said here are my goals. I want a car that can be driven daily without having to pay 10 miles to the gallon fuel prices and be reliable I want 250-300 hp I want to have room to expand in the future I want to accomplish this using the L28 platform From what I have seen on this forum many of you use methods I have mentioned above or have played around with many different options. So heres the real question I would like some input on some of your trials and errors and really get a grasp on what is do able with what im working with here. Thanks for taking the time to read through this as well
