  1. nope, he pulled the pick-up tube out and said it looked good and he felt around inside the tank and said it didn't feel like it had rust in it or anything. What would you suggest checking on the ignition?? the module on the dist.?
  2. thats what i thought when he told me about the problem, but after looking at it(anf following him to the muffler shop) anytime he gets on it hard it'll smoke like its running rich. maybe a small fuel restriction could be starving it at that many RPMs? car sat from 03 to 08, we'll pull the pump out and check that pre-filter
  3. ok i've tried to search fo it and i downloaded the FSM but i just can not figure this thing out, it runs great all the way to 4800rpm then it starts to stutter but will continue to pull to redline. If you back off the throttle just a little bit the stutter goes away. And it also only does it under a load, revs to redline with no problem in netural. since the stutter goes away when you back off i'm leaning towards the TPS but it seems ok when i check it with an ohm meter, so i'm totally stumped. Anyone have any other ideas?
  4. well after researching all day it looks like the 190sl 4cyl came with side draft solex carbs, webers are pretty much a bolt on mod for them and it looks like the 190sl intake is a 2 peice(on carb on each one to feed 2 cyls) and also those manifolds look like thy would bolt right on my head i'd just need 3 of them, but i've already ran into problems with the benz people saying that it is runing the car.... so i think i'm gonna ebay the intakes to see if i can find some for a reasonable price(yeah right)
  5. no where close, i'm just wondering about how much room i would need, i was planing to make my own manifold, however, i've been reading about the dual weber setup that they sell for 815 bucks and it's starting to look better and better i mainly wanted the "look" of triple webers but i'm thinking just a couple cool looking air cleaners will work for me, think i'll have the factory intake and exhaust manifolds extruded honed(there are NO performance parts at all for a MB 2.2L L6) but people on this forum build L6's of about the same size so i thought it might be the best place for info.
  6. no there is no kit for it, there is a kit to use 2 downdraft webers on the factory manifold(thats my back up plan) i would think most manifods for the Z's would be within and inch or so because they all have to fit in the same space right?
  7. anyone know how far it is from the mounting surface on the head(where the intake bolts on) to the tip of the air horn/air fliters?? i'm working on installing triple webers on a 56 benz and i've only got about 10inches from where the intake bolts to the head to the end of the carbs
  8. braap i was leaning towards the wolf3D also after looking thru some of the post in the EMS section now i'm gonna look at prices
  9. mega squirt sounds like the way to go then thanks
  10. if the stock efi can do what i'm trying to get to i'd be fine with it, can you help me out on HOW to tune it, like physically what do i do to it, i tried a search and found the alanticz thing on trouble shooting but nothing about tuning the cars A/F ratio
  11. ok thats GREAT news, braap what did you use to tune the factory EFI like you wanted? and maybe my fuel mileage sucked in my 81 because it was an auto?(and i was 16 years old:roll:) but i only got 16-17mpg with it. how about the head?? would the P90 shaved be better than the N42? and would a P79 be any good if it was shaved like the P90?(i'm gonna search for the differances) also since there is no smog check here would an intake with out EGR make any more power? jhonc and braap, thoes are really nice Zs and pretty much what i want to build only with a ZX(just somethin fun to drive to work) my SRT-10 isn't very fun to drive, but then again i've got the suspension set up for drag racing, it was pretty fun stock
  12. i've been browsing old post, looks like a P90 shave .080" with longer valves is the way to go?? could i use the MegaSquirt with all the factory injectors and sensors? i've never looked at megasquirt at all, i'm gonna search a little bit though would swapping to SU carbs still get my MPG where i'd like to be and reach the 200hp mark? if so that would be an option
  13. hey yall, my first car was an 81 280zx 2+2 auto, now i'm looking to build one for a DD which is why i want the 20MPG. i'm not looking for monster hp but i'd like about 200 at the crank, and keep the EFI. i'm thinking of using a 3.70 rear out of a 300zx to help with fuel mileage. so how hard would it be to reach these goals?? i was thinkin an N42 head on the F54 block with a cam(not sure which one), header and full exhaust. how is everyone tuning the fuel injection on their cars?? thanks in advance and i'm sure i'll have plenty more questions:biggrin:
