Inline Fuel Pressure Gauge

19 October 2016 - 10:09 AM

I'm planning on installing an inline fuel pressure gauge in the engine compartment of my stock EFI 1978 280Z. I would appreciate suggestions as to where to locate it (outgoing line from the fuel filter, in the fuel rails prior to the regulator, etc.). Where have other members placed their fuel pressure gauges? Any help (especially pics) would be appreciated as always.

Front side marker lights as turn signals

11 August 2016 - 06:28 PM

For some time I felt I wanted to update the safety aspect of the 280Z by making the front fender side marker lights work as turn signals along with the front turn signals on the grille. Since I didn't want to experiment with my stock lights I purchased a set of marker lights from Thailand on Ebay. The quality of the metal case was surprisingly good, much like (or perhaps better than) the Datsun part.Attached File  20160704_085201.jpg   195.13KB   0 downloadsAttached File  20160704_085240.jpg   134.83KB   0 downloads

I pulled it apart and removed the 1156 socket, widened the resulting opening to accept a GM 1157 socket which snapped into place and sealed the joint with black silicone.

I did have to lift the front end of the car in order to remove the fender liner and do the electrical work which included a new 3 wire connector and an extra wire from the front turn signals to each side marker ( green/red on the left side and green/white on the right).

Now the Z turn signals incorporate the front side markers and bring that aspect to today's safety standards.

Soft Speaker Enclosure

30 July 2016 - 05:06 AM

Found this high density foam audio speaker enclosures that are easy to install and improve sound quality by not letting all those waves escape backwards into the car's body. I found it useful for the rear deck speaker mount from MSA where a lot of the sound is lost back toward the tail lights.

Trimmed the excess around the front of the speakers and put everything back into place and actually noticed a nice improvement in sound.

They come in all speaker sizes so I used the 6x9" ovals for the rear deck speakers and  4" round ones for the speakers below the quarter windows.

"Heavy Duty Light weight Starter" from California Datsun

02 July 2016 - 05:47 AM

I have searched for improved alternatives to the OEM starter on the forum and there seems to be no information on the subject. California Datsun advertises a starter:

" LIGHT WEIGHT AND HELPS START YOUR ENGINE FASTER. NO MORE SLOW CRANK ON COLD DAYS WHERE IT ALMOST KILLS YOUR BATTERY, THIS IS YOUR ANSWER! NO CORE REQUIRED.

NO MODIFICATIONS NEEDED THIS IS A DIRECT BOLT ON. PLEASE SEE OUR OTHER AUCTIONS FOR THE STARTER RELAY KIT THAT ADDS TRUE 12 VOLTS TO EXTEND YOUR STARTER LIFE! "

It certainly looks much nicer than stock but is there any functional advantage over OEM? The starter relay they mention is an extra $15. Opinions from more experienced members would be greatly appreciated.

What mirrors are these?

I've been searching information on the mirrors used by Star Road in this beautiful yellow Z but have found nothing.

Does anyone here have any idea where these came from?
