  1. Thanks for fixing the link... 8) Why am i selling?? For one... i found myself addicted to modifying the Z. I really couldnt stop buying things for it. And everytime i'd buy something new for it...it would spend more time in the garage awaiting parts to finish whatever project i was on at the time. I also needed to focus my attention on finishing school I had taken a long break and decided to return finally. The money from the sale will certainly help in attaining that goal. Speaking of goals...i really had a primary goal of letting people know about the LS1 project and that came true with the Sport Z article. The race to finish the LS1 Z32 swap was a very close one...but i have to admit...you do have the most powerful LS1 Z32 conversion as of yet!! I wouldve loved to have SCed mine :0) Maybe next time! If youre ever in Albuquerque, itd be great to check out the Z. The first round will be on me!
  2. So after a very busy two months, I have fixed several of the issues that were plaguing (sp?) my 300ZX LS1 conversion. I have fixed the steering issues by tweaking the crossmember. I replaced the windshield along with the gauge cluster hat. I'm relisting the Z on eBay and it can be found at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...item=2489677526 Good Luck!!!
  3. Sorry for my lack of input in this thread :0( But its been quite busy here! The LS1 is an amazing motor...Whenever i do drive the Z, i am always amazed at the gobs of torque it now has. You can definitely tell that the entire car is lighter. Not only did the LS1 engine/tranny weigh aprox 150 lbs less than the NA VG motor/tranny, but i also did loose a bit more weight with the removal of several items on the Z (ie AC/sound deadening material). Stock for stock, the LS1 puts out a good deal more hp than the VG30DETT motor. GM rated their LS1 motor at a very conservative 320hp at the crank. Stock LS1s have been dynoed and pulled over 320 to the wheels! I would love to see a VG do anywhere near the same. Now, cost of mods relating to both motors. The LS1 domestic motor will be far cheaper to mod than the VG. I experienced moding the VG and spent a fortune. I spent faaar less modding the LS1 and am already surpassing anything that i was able to do with the VG. The cost of the conversion is not as expensive as one might think. I bought the LS1 engine/tranny/electronics/fuel pump for $3100 and sold my stock motor/mods/tranny/electronics for $3500!! Which left me cash for additonal conversion extras. The reason for me not being able to enjoy the Z as much as i wish, is simply for a couple reasons.. #1...I am addicted to modding the LS1. I am continually spending money on modifications, and the Z ends up sitting in the garage awaiting parts and or time for me to installt he mods. #2 I have become extremely busy with a full time job as well as full time at the university. I barely have time to sleep let alone run the Z. I decided that I could better utilize the money than the Z in the garage. I do plan on building another Z in the future when i will be able to enjoy it more. Now on to the issue about the steering. To fix this "issue" it will cost aprox $100 and take less than a day at a welding shop. The crossmember simply needs to be raised 2 inches and the steering rack moved forward (by relocating and welding in the steering rack brackets). If the buyer/winning bidder of the auction wishes, i can have this modification done. Well i think that covers it!! There are only a few more hours left in the auction!! Good luck bidding! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at Swmmr4u@aol.com
  4. I have updated the auction information to include my reserve price at the bottom of the following webpage! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2483301129&category=6398&sspagename=WDVW With all that has gone into the Z i know that I will not get anywhere near what i put into it... but being that it is a piece of history and the potential for increase in value is great, I figured that the $13,000 reserve price is a very small price to pay. GOOD luck!!! If any questions, feel free to email me: Swmmr4u@aol.com
  5. Well, I have decided to sell the first Z32 LS1 powered 300ZX. I no longer am able to enjoy it as I used to, and could use the money more than having it sit in the garage. Now someone has the oportunity to purchase this piece of history... Feel free to ask any questions! Here is the link to the auction on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2483301129 There are plenty of pictures of the project that can be found by searching for posts made by myself on this website as well as on twinturbo.net. The eBay link also has several pictures. Good Luck! Swmmr4u@aol.com Brian
  6. Definitely feel free to ask! I am currently doing some rewiring. I had originally used the stock f-body guage cluster and since, decided on going with Autometer guages. I knwo that you had done that with your setup. Looks very very clean. It was definitely a tight race to the finish as far as the Z32 conversion! But i think...you may just edge me out horsepwer wise!!! lol Love the SCer setup. I'm looking at doing an ATI setup within the year.
  7. I originally had the Stillen cat-back exhaust system and decided on keeping it for the conversion. I had also gutted the cats and the LS1 also had precat sections....so we ditched those in favor of test pipes. Nothing like straight through exhaust. The exhaust note is VERY deep and mellow, especially at idle. There is a bit of throatiness...but i almost want a bit more. Still very nice sound. 8)
  8. I agree... i think that the LS1 and the Z32 are a perfect combination. If you are interested in the manual, please feel free to let me know. I'd be happy to help! I have also posted several pics of my conversion if you woudl like to see how it looks. Just do a search!
  9. In doing the swap, I can tell you that the reliability of the domestic LS1 and the low cost associated with parts is pretty nice...and if something does break...its significantly less expensive to replace/repair than similar items on the 300ZX VG motors. There is also a much wider selection of aftermarket parts for the LS1 than the VG and those same aftermarket parts are much less $$$. In the conversion, it is possible to retain those creature comforts. All it is, is just a bit of plumbing for the AC and PS. And I am sure there are some companies out there that can modify the stcok 300ZX gauges to read the signals from the LS1. I installed a gauge cluster from a f-body and you can not tell it is not stock unless you are looking at it dead on and can see the actual gauges. It looks very good. My manual covers most everything you would need to know in the conversion process. IMHO its one of the best conversions you can do...
  10. Yes...i know..the intake is fairly ghetto! lol But it is very temporary. I am thinking of using a Corvette intake (the part that sits over the radiator) as it should work pretty well in this setup.
  11. Well, I finished doing a bit of tuning and wanted to check out the torque of the monster...sooo...what a better way than to do a burnout! I had also been meaning to post some more pics of the conversion for anyone that was interested. Its definitely a sleeper... This is a good shot of the motor... A rear shot of the Z... Well, i am still selling the conversion manuals as well. I am having a holiday sale ($35 shipped) for anyone interested! Just let me know!
  12. You know i saw the website of the shop that did the work. YOu have the 700ZXC?? Not too bad. I spoke to the owner of the shop about the setup and you did yours quite differently than mine (As far as motor placement, crossmembers, wiring, etc). But overall a pretty good job. Its feels good to be the pioneer in an area...doesnt it?! The SCer idea is very good. How much lcearance did you have with just the motor and the hood? No SCer... In my setup, my motor sits about 2.5in lower than the top of where the stock VG motor sat. GIves a lot of room for something like a SCer in the future 8)
  13. hey there, sorry it took me awhile to reply...i'm in the midst of a cam install :0) I just installed a 220/224 duration .532/.535 lift 114lsa Comp Cams cam :0) hee hee I also installed Lunati valve springs and hardened retianers Well as far as the manual...as is the manual is $40 plus $2.50 shipping. Let me know if you want it in CD format or in a hard copy/binder. To order it you simply need to contact me. I accept Paypal, money orders, and cashier's checks. The manual covers everything you could possibly need in the conversion. If you are not able to weld, i give dimensions for all of the motor mounts, crossmembers, etc so that a welder can build you a them. I may consider having a shop here do the welding for you but i woudl need your stock cross members (tranny and motor) as well as you tranny (LS1 crossmember). The price would be significantly higher if we went that route. As shipping a chunk of metal and welding it here woudl be more than a manual itself. The manual is written in "layman's" terms so long as you have worked on a car before and know what common tools and parts are called. If you follow the directions carefully you will have a LS1 powered 300ZX :0) The manual also has MANY more very detailed pictures to help you along in the project. In my conversion, i went with the 4L60E automatic tranny found stock on f-bodies. The manual also covers if you wish to run with the 6-speed T56. It is a fairly bolt on project. the only major job you will need to do...is widen your tranny tunnel. I give you all the dimensions you would need to do this as well. Once again, if you decide that you woudl rather have a shop out here do the welding...let me know and we can work something out. If you have any questions, contact me at swmmr4u@aol.com or btschwa@sandia.gov Let me know!!! 8)
  14. I am selling a conversion manual for the 1990-1996 300ZX --> LS1 conversion :0) $40! Let me know..it has PLENTY of pics!!
  15. As far as that center piece being for structural ridgidity...it is so thin and narrow it didnt have much structural integrity originally...So we got rid of it. I am running a strut tower brace and we strengthened the crossmember in the conversion... So even if it did have some structural necesity to it....we wouldnt have needed it with the extra support we have. Now regarding installing the LS1 instead of a VG30DETT motor. First of all, i wanted to get away from the VG motors as they tend to have some reliability issues in my opinion. And when they break down...even if you do the labor...the replacement parts are ridiculously expensive. Even after market parts are extrememly expensive... I wanted a 300+rwhp motor stock with out the use of turbos/SC/nitrous. I wanted a reliable motor that was also a modern fuel injected one. I looked at the Ford 4.6 and 5.4 litre motors and they had too wide of a "V" to them and wouldnt have fit as well as the larger displacement LS1. Also i looked at the weight advantage of the LS1...it was lighter than the ford motors...it is even lighter than the VG30DETT motor! The challenge was also convincing
